This is a really interesting puzzle mechanic! familiar and fresh at the same time. The graphics made it a bit difficult to discern what is interactable and what isn't. Would love to see this expanded into a more complete game in the future!

mr-bluecap 2023-10-03 02:05

As a big fan of sliding puzzles, I really enjoyed this game. Would've loved to see that extra mechanic you mentioned and some more levels - but that deadline always races towards you. Nice and simple with some cute graphics, great work for your first solo game.

chasells 2023-10-03 02:09

I like the puzzle aspect of having two characters to control, and there are some good challenges here!

afra-gerami 2023-10-03 06:27

Good implementation of theme and good puzzle but sometimes really hard to solve, it's really useful that there is a skip level  . It's was also a really good idea to use the shape of tetris as block, it was familiar shape but in a different world :v:

phaix 2023-10-03 06:43

Nice one. I had the problem sometimes, that the door wasn't there. It seems to disappear sometimes when the map is moved. Also if i moved the map it gets locked and i cant move the view anymore. But anyway great work.

stefan-b 2023-10-03 17:29

Great take on the limited space as a puzzle!

recher 2023-10-03 19:15

The concept is nice. It's a good idea to have a "hero", even if it behaves like a 1x1 square in the game logic.

Did not pass the third level. So, the "level design" looks quite good.

There is no music and no sound, so maybe you should opt-out for this rating.

Did you made this game by using a derivative of PuzzleScript engine ? Graphisms looks like it was made with puzzlescript.

Had a nice time testing this game. Congratulation for your first contribution.

xry 2023-10-03 20:19

@walaber I totally agree it should somehow be more clear what can be interacted with, tried to add a little of that with the black selection corners but I agree players probably need more feedback, thank you for the feedback!

xry 2023-10-03 20:20

@mr-bluecap Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback! There was so much I wanted to do and couldn't finish, I think I needed to spend better time planning my planning because I spent a whole day just thinking of ideas haha

xry 2023-10-03 20:25

@chasells Thanks! Yeah I wish I had more time to design levels around that mechanic, I also feel bad realizing I used one puzzle to introduce two mechanics at once: both moving multiple ducks as well as moving separate sliding blocks of the same color at the same time. Definitely want to fix that in another version. Thanks for the feedback though!!

xry 2023-10-03 20:26

@afra-gerami thank you for the feedback!! :hearts: I'm glad i added a skip button, although really should have thought of a reset button too for convenience, haha

xeniarta 2023-10-03 22:17

Cool game! Mechanics is engaging, it's fun to play and it fits the theme perfectly! And I really liked different levels, with controlling two characters, and new tasks that level design presented me. I completed all levels except 4. That one was like over the top hard for me, I was afraid that next levels would be harder) I returned to try again the 4th level, but I still failed 😅 I'll probably would return again to try again, I don't like the idea of the game beating me 😂

xry 2023-10-03 23:02

@phaix yes, that is an intended mechanic (which you need to use for a level towards the end)! I'm glad you brought up the confusion though, it might be a good idea to highlight where the door is even when blocks cover it or find an alternative! Thank you for the feedback!

xry 2023-10-03 23:03

@stefan-b thanks!!

zach-rouhana 2023-10-04 03:46

Honestly a great game for your first jam! Loved the mechanic and think it worked well. Two things that would have made the game excellent: A redo button, a restart lvl button

panda-king-976 2023-10-04 06:18

This is a good puzzle game but some stages(like 7) seem impossible so you probably need to teach your mechanics better.

xry 2023-10-04 06:26

@panda-king-976 just to clarify, you know everything you need to know to beat stage 7 once you get there! I'm really sorry if it seems like it's impossible since there is a leap in logic you need to make but you can do it!! I believe in you

random-storykeeper 2023-10-04 08:14

I was immediately drawn to this game because of the graphics. The chunky pixel art birds did it for me - what can I say; I'm fickle when it comes to pixel art sometimes. I enjoyed the take on the Sokoban puzzle game for the most part. It's nice to have one with mouse controls and I love the addition of being able to slide the perimeters of the board around (at least that's what it looked like to me). Sokoban games always feel very limited so I feel like that was within the understandable boundaries of the theme. :joy: Not only did I appreciate the skip button, I also like that the levels loop around once you get to level 8 so I could take another shot at the ones I found more challenging. Strangely enough, levels 7 and 8 were considerably easier for me than the other levels (besides 1 and 2). I would say level 4 was the one that tested my patience the most, just because it involves so many crammed spaces and you really have to sit and think about how to strategically deal with all the pieces - that is, unless you're super familiar with these kinds of puzzles (which I am not).

While I like the graphics a lot, I will say that the colours of the bird and one of the lighter blocks in level 4 made them blend in with the background blocks. One of my initial struggles with level 4 was that I thought one of the squares couldn't be moved because it looked like it was part of the main level's perimeters. I also found the understanding of how to move the level boundaries confusing. In level 3, there were some areas where I just couldn't move the level even though I had free spaces within the arena. I imagine the level area itself also has some boundaries that I couldn't see, though it does draw a lot of confusion from a player's perspective. It made the dragging feel unresponsive a lot of the time.

Overall, I enjoyed what you presented - it's the kind of entry that definitely deserves to grow a lot more outside the boundaries of a jam. Great job for a first entry.

stevenjmiller 2023-10-04 11:54

Fun game, I played to the end. I especially enjoyed the last few levels, they were very creative and the I thought you did a great job of presenting the levels with mechanical twists in a way that telegraphs that you need to think outside the box.

xeniarta 2023-10-04 13:47

Well, I got back to beat The 4th Level. And I won!!!! And, I got an idea, that maybe adding move count would add another level of challenge. Not to the 4th level ofc, the count of my moves there on my first attempts would make me sad  img.png

panda-king-976 2023-10-04 16:15

@xry ah, I get it now :)

xry 2023-10-04 16:52

@recher Thanks for the tip, I opted out of audio! I didn't use puzzlescript, but the pixel art graphics are inspired by it, yes! I hope you can try to reach the final level 8, and skip if you need to!

@xeniarta i'm glad you came back to beat level 4!! That's the hardest one for me too, I ran out of time to balance the difficulty, so for some reason level 4 out of 8 is the most strenuous, LOL. Adding a move count is a great idea too! Thanks for the feedback!!

@zach-rouhana Thank you for the feedback! I totally agree on the buttons, somehow I thought to make a skip button but not a reset button? LOL, I wish I could go back and change it.

@panda-king-976 I'm really glad you figured it out, level 7 is my favorite in the game haha, it's interesting how it's either one of the easiest or hardest levels for some people

@random-storykeeper Wow hi! Somehow, I remember your name from years ago on soundcloud, lol! Thanks for the feedback, I agree level 4 is too tough compared to everything else. I also think the colors are a bit of an issue, especially since colorblind friends may have a hard time playing, maybe I need to use unique textures as well. I realized a mechanic I didn't finish implementing can cause problems with moving the perimeter, I might go back in and fix that. Thank you for the feedback!!

@stevenjmiller Thank you for the comment! My hope was that the main twist would be a big surprise and change how you see the game, maybe the space isn't so limited after all!

tomknocker44 2023-10-04 18:45

Cool concept but I found it hard to distinguish the background from everything else. Also a reset level button might be a nice feature. Other than that it seemed pretty solid.

zimny11 2023-10-04 19:49

Really well made puzzle game! It was a lot of fun to play! I love how cleaver game mechanic got, I just wish there was more. Also one at least one level, player can leave the screen :D Level 4 felt way harder than the rest, but I get it is hard to do difficulty progression in just few hour. Just missing some music and sound effects. Great job with the game!

ottos 2023-10-04 20:38

What a nice little game! I actually really like the idea of moving little blocks while managing a little ducky! It's a very interesting and nice idea. Most of the times levels were in fact somewhat intuitive - yes, i wish there was at least some text hinting on what you were supposed doing, - but at the same time this process of figuring something out was somewhat engaging, too. It's almost feels as a blast to figure something out!

There was only one level i couldn't figure out and had to skip (the very busy one), but i'm also a little stupid so this is fine. I really liked the level where you had to move white walls? It just felt sooo cool! Almost like you learned that you have unusable walls and now they no longer are! Felt great!!

Overall I think you did a great job to convey solutions even without making a straight up tutorial, and this is great! I think it takes a lot of skills and I'm pretty sure your future games would end up even cooler and great!

Good luck with that! <3

agraffs 2023-10-05 18:01

Honestly for a Jam project, it's good, especially knowing it was a 1 person job and the puzzles were done in an hour. Wasn't able to get passed lvl5, but from what I saw the game is based on classics, and still is solid.

tucan 2023-10-06 04:21

I like the puzzle mechanic! Moving the room was a nice surprise! I would suggest letting the player drag the duck the same way you move the puzzle pieces without having to use the keyboard. And additional benefit to not using the keyboard is that it could be easily ported to mobile platform with a touchscreen. I think this could become a nice game to play on my phone! Good Job!

fusionnist 2023-10-06 16:11

Solid entry, and congrats on your first! Very very nice work! If you do continue development, I'll have an eye on this! Personal request: please consider graphics that blend together less. I believe the piece colors made it hard to tell ground/different pieces apart. Otherwise, looking forward to more levels! The ones I saw showed good potential. Cheers!

nekusoul 2023-10-07 16:19

Good variety of challenges and applications of the mechanic for the amount of levels.

steffo 2023-10-08 14:56

Level 7 was genius! :star:

Reminded me a bit of Baba is You...

sofia-j 2023-10-10 16:03

Nice puzzle game ! it deserves a little bit more reflexion about the graphism, color specifically. Sometimes I was asking myself which part was the path for the duck, and which part was an obstacle ^^'

blueman 2023-10-19 01:49

very creative concept for a puzzle game. I liked it a lot and it fits the theme quite well.

roroto-sic 2023-10-19 11:06

I greatly thank the dev for adding the possibility of skipping levels ( lv4 im talking of you). Else it's a great sokoban like game , the gameplay mechanics are renewed well and are varied! The "baba is you" touch on level 7 was a great surprise ^^
