Nice job, very polished! The audio is was very quiet. Maybe you can increase this in the settings or something. The game felt very smooth, I like that.

emily-ttg 2023-05-01 09:54

Quite fun! I did experience a bug whereby the box could get stuck to the player and be unable to drop it but otherwise it was smooth sailing. Chaotic fun experience!

wahooney 2023-05-01 09:59

@douwe-ravers Thank you for the kind words! I added the audio an hour or so before the compo ended, be happy you got ANYTHING!!! I'm pretty sure my headphones were cranked to full, so my mix was TOTALLY off :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@emily-ttg Thanks for the feedback! I struggled with that bug a LOT, that part of my blueprints are spaghetti with all the exceptions I try to handle :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

fnelix 2023-05-01 11:26

Looks nice and plays well! Fun little puzzler

john-gabriel 2023-05-01 13:07

Sorting boxes is a lonely job! Just a tiny bit of sound, no contact with anyone else... I'm not sure if that was intentional, but the result is a game that feels quite sombre.

torte478 2023-05-01 13:41

I like the jetpack mechanics. It feels smooth and satisfying to use.

wahooney 2023-05-01 14:27

@fnelix Thanks for the compliments

@john-gabriel Not intentional, just a happy accident :paintbrush: Though I did consider adding local multiplayer for 7 seconds, then I saw it was 3 hours to deaadline :stuck_out_tongue:

@torte478 Glad you liked it :thumbsup_tone2:

tanis 2023-05-01 15:45

It hangs on my Mac running it on Parallels. Here's all I can see:

Windows_11.png

Any chance to get a native macOS build? I will try to run it on my Windows box as soon as I have a chance.

wahooney 2023-05-01 17:49

@tanis ~~I'll see what I can do. I could probably build it but I have no way of testing it, so I hope you don't mind being a guinnea pig~~

Edit: Seems I won't be able to make a Mac build, AFAIK I need to build a Mac version on a Mac build of Unreal Engine 5 (that I must build myself on a Mac), to make a Mac mode. MAC!!! I've never been able to build UE5 from source and I don't have immediate access to a Mac.

tanis 2023-05-01 18:22

@wahooney LOL ok that sounds like too much work. You don't actually need to build the engine itself on macOS, you can use a pre-built version... unless you modified UE yourself... that would be a different story  I actually tried to load up your source code on UE 5.1.1 on macOS but it complains that your assets have been saved with a more recent version of the engine. Are you using 5.2 preview?

wahooney 2023-05-01 21:56

@tanis yup, 5.2 preview 2, I walked on the wild side. Good thing I didn't use the new PCG tools cos they crash on packaging 🤣😂🤣

pincushion 2023-05-01 22:23

Nice looking game. I agree with others, the sound could be taken up a few notches.

It has a nice progression. I like that truck that flies by from time to time. It drives my imagination for what else could be next. The animation on the score screen is really satisfying.

I couldn't see the top and bottom of each scene, since I use a 24:9 screen. I still got by most the time. It was fun regardless.

daandruff 2023-05-02 06:20

Really well made! You didn't bite of more than you could shew here, very polished controls and the audio was really nice as well! I did find a bug where you could release a box and pick one up at the same time which resulted in you not peeing able to pick any new boxes up. But other than that... this is a really good game :D

wahooney 2023-05-02 11:39

@pincushion, thanks for the feedback! I was worried about aspects. I was going to try something more like Overcooked where the game happens in a defined area. I had a tracking camera, but it felt disorientating in the later levels.

@daandruff, thank you. I actually did bite off a LOT more than I could chew initially  That's why the game is called Space Docker, but the project source is called Smugglers Tale. Most of what you played was made on day 2, I actually had a spaceship the player could get onto and pilot to other stations to drop packages off. Getting onto the ship, piloting and all that is implemented, you can probably still try it in the source (if I didn't break it in the mean time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ), but there's a technical problem in the UE character controller where the character would jump to a different location when taking control of it again. This game was supposed to be MUCH bigger, so that bug probably saved my entry.

philocode 2023-05-02 17:05

Hey, thanks for making this game, I quite enjoyed it :) One thing I noticed, in some of the levels the player and the boxes disappear within the bounds of the level on normal ground, so there may be some misplaced boundaries or something. But other than that, I quite enjoyed it... and had fun kicking boxes around aming for the right container :D

vydra 2023-05-02 17:37

Can't start it.

wahooney 2023-05-02 19:33

@philocode Thanks for the kind words. I had that issue a few times myself, but couldn't quite get my finger on why.

@vydra Can you give me your computer specs? Any error windows or anything to work from?

salvation 2023-05-03 05:20

Amazing Graphics the best i have seen on this jam. At first i did think that the game would be boring and that it would only look good, but when i started lobbing package across the map the gameplay got more fun and interesting. Few bugs you sometimes can't drop packages seems to happen when you throw 2 of them on top of one another and try to pickup both at same time but this is just a guess. Sometimes you also fall bit lower and can't fly back to the platform but visiting other side fixes this issue.

wahooney 2023-05-03 15:18

Thanks for the kind words @salvation  I know about the bugs and I have the spaghetti blueprints to prove it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

aaronkaa 2023-05-03 17:04

Great game, with good sound effects, i missed some music, and on the 3rd level i got 4 in lost though I didn't let fall any of the packages.

captaindreamcast 2023-05-03 21:15

Very fun game! I experimented a bit with what the optimal strat would be to get a maximum amount of points. My first go-to strat was throwing boxes across the room, but that resulted in a lot of lost, and sometimes even misplaced boxes, in one level I lost so many that I got -200 points, after that I changed my strat. In the end it was "manually" placing the boxes one-by-one that worked out best for me, I got some good scores with that in the final levels. I think you had a good "decision space" going there where you have to choose between speed with package tossing and carefully placing, I feel that was a neat challenge you designed in making players choose between safe and dangerous gameplay with the time limit and the point penalties. The art had a good space mood to it, I also liked the jet pack, its sounds and controls in that regard, I feel that really added a lot to that "space feel", that was a great addition. All around very well done, great job!

wahooney 2023-05-03 21:21

@aaronkaa Thanks for the kind words! Music would have been great, unfortunately I have the musical talent of a flatulent donkey so maybe in the future I'll find someone to make some for me. I'll check the package loss out, it's not a bug I'd experienced before.

@captaindreamcast Thank you  There are a lot of ways to play, I'm glad how emergent strategies started showing themselves. Especially when you can get into a rhythm of throwing packages perfectly into their bins over the void of space.

xandruher 2023-05-03 22:28

Cool game, I liked the graphics and the sounds. Some music would have been cool and I wish the timers would have been a bit faster. But overall cool game and I liked it!

wighz 2023-05-03 22:32

The trucks were cool. Well done with modelling! I would have expected a more brutal result when I got in front of them, hehe. The game didn't really progress, as far as I can tell. Maybe some more puzzling aspects could have spiced things up. Not sure what though! Aside from that it was a nice experience! Good job!

dzejpi 2023-05-04 07:03

Finally some game that can make my computer's fans spin properly. Well done, looks and plays really well! What I don't understand is why packages don't fall down. I understand that I have a jetpack, but it seems that boxes are levitating over the gaps too. Is that intentional? Either way, awesome job with this. :)

wahooney 2023-05-04 07:22

@xandruher Thank you for the kind words. I do want to revisit this and add some actual balance to the levels (I made all the levels in about 30 minutes, and the timers were just guesses 🤫

@wighz Thank you. I'm going for a more Overcooked! style game than a puzzle, but I agree that more elements would be good.

@dzejpi Glad to give your PC a workout, the packages float because they are in zero gravity (when not over a platform), I didn't have time to explain that in the game, but yes, completely intentional

blazerdom 2023-05-04 14:48

Good job! At the first level, where three different conveyors come across, if you go into the shadows, the character disappears and reappears after a while. If you go out into the abyss and immediately try to go back, then this cannot be done, because it clings to the edge

chuckiee 2023-05-04 16:08

Looks very crisp  Nice sorting management game. I'd like to see more levels that requires you to sort of plan ahead. Maybe there could be a screen that shows the next batch of the items, then you can plan how to most efficiently deliver them etc. Otherwise I think it's pretty neat!

snakemuho 2023-05-04 16:53

I liked it! Throwing the boxes turned out pretty fun when I learned how to do it. The animations are nice too.

The level with one vertical gap in the middle does have a bug where the boxes get lost after hitting the walls at the edges of the screen, and it even happens right at the starting conveyor when there are too many boxes and they push each other to the right.

cypheus 2023-05-04 20:08

The game definitely looks slick and has a futuristic mood to it. There wasn't really much of a puzzle aspect, but the controls were smooth so it felt good at least. I didn't understand why when I walked into the shadow my character would vanish for a bit then come back?? Mysterious shadow lands.

island-jam-2-group-3 2023-05-05 20:46

The first levels felt a bit too repetitive / slow to my taste ^^U but then got better with the trucks and the increased difficulty. Loved the grafics!

jk5000 2023-05-07 08:03

I don't see much gameplay and what is here don't seem very interesting. The visuals is okay, and it's easy to see what is happening and see what you are suppose to do. Sadly I can't hear any sound, so if there is any the audio volume is super low. I am sorry I did not like the much very much. But I don't think there needs much chances to make this into a really good game. My main issue is that it's too easy, and there is no way to fail. Less levels could have given you more time to make more gameplay, maybe it could have been if it all was assembled into one fun level.

kreshi 2023-05-14 23:15

Man, the game was pretty good. Very nice graphics as well and the character controller felt very good too. The concept and how it was processed was also great! However, mapping restart to "R" while "E" is interacting was very very frustrating because i missclicked like thausend times xD. Other than that, good job :).

gamescodedogs 2023-05-18 12:15

Is it any chance to see a HTML5 version?
