The concept of this game is really funny. I absolutely love the interpretation of the prompt. The graphics and music serve the game's overall mood and feel really well. I love all the audio. My biggest concern was I couldn't figure out how to get past the first day. I definitely think a tutorial of some kind would serve this game well. Despite that, I really like the idea of managing the resources and I just love the overall idea of being in charge of carrier pidgeons during wartimes. Nice submission!

I really enjoyed this game. The art and music were great. I loved watching the little pigeons fly around and peck. The game itself was pretty easy. I never failed a contract and I only ever had a little difficulty with food draining once, but when enough pigeons died and my contracts came back I was in a good position. We also made a Carrier pigeon inspired game though it's done in a different way.

wow, cool idle game! this one was fun to have running on the side, beautiful mood and concept

having abit of a narrative in the beginning about the carrier pigeons was golden, would be cool to a jingle of the bells on the wire mentioned (and maybe something to indicate there's a new contract available)

overall a fun vibe! thanks!

wadlo 2023-05-03 02:50

This is such a good idea. Carrier pigeons are so fun. I love that the game wasn't too difficult to get. Also, I was digging the aesthetic. Go Godot!

ponygirlluna 2023-05-03 03:08

Wow! What a unique concept! Perhaps I got lucky, but I didn't find any downside to just accepting and completing every single contract that was made available—didn't lose a single one. I think I won with a good 200 pigeons or so at my disposal. Seems to be a sturdy flock! It would have been nice to have a list of active contracts and their status, as I felt individual ones got lost to the flow of messages. But overall, everything in the game meshed really well and made for a great experience.

lvl99chicken 2023-05-03 03:10

Fun game! I liked the graphics and mood. Pigeons were funny too.

chusmimax 2023-05-03 03:17

I liked it, and I thought I wouldn't. It doesn't get too complex or anything, easy to grasp.

Mood is on point and pigeons are always a plus for me.

nbumgardner 2023-05-03 03:30

The audio is very calming to go with the gameplay of waiting for contracts to complete. I like how the Success Chance is a description to imply how hard a mission feels, so it seems more important than the other statistics at first glance.

The visuals and gameplay loop feel disconnected to me. I think having the number of pigeons on-screen increase and decrease to be in proportion to the pigeons listed underneath Intel would be nice, even if it is 1 pigeon on screen for every 5 or 10 pigeons in the statistics, whether the ones sent on missions fly or fade away, either would help show how accepting a contract sends away pigeons, which are your main resource.

Making hyperlinks clickable in the credits is a clever idea, how did you do it in Godot?

paulhocker 2023-05-03 04:17

@nbumgardner i wanted to to do what you suggest by having pigeons fade in and out with the pigeon population. hyperlinks are created using the rich text control and using the [url] bbcode. you can then use the nodes meta signal call some gdscript. there is info in the docs on it. thanks for playing.

saviqq 2023-05-03 09:25

Interesting game, enjoyable experience :) fitting aesthetics and calming music. I feel that delivery gameplay could be polished more. Don't get me wrong, for quick jam is working from start to finish, but I didn't really understand purpose of the shop. The food part was not really a factor as-well coops and lofts. I was just buying pigeons and sending them on missions until I won, maybe it can be balanced more around the shop mechanic.

yaroslav-polyantsev 2023-05-03 09:30

Relaxing and meditative gameplay. The music is very pleasant. From the second time I figured out how to properly allocate resources, the game seemed pretty easy. Until the end, there was no point in purchasing food, since more than half remained. The button to close the window is too far), the first time I was looking for it for a long time))

paulhocker 2023-05-03 11:32

@saviqq sadly trying to balance the gameplay was not complete. thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing.

paulhocker 2023-05-03 11:33

@yaroslav-polyantsev I agree with you on the location of the button. I wanted to add the ability to exit with the ECS key as well but it interfered with the imbedded html version on itch. if I do anything more to the game, i would probably change that part of the ui.

paulhocker 2023-05-03 11:35

@ponygirlluna i agree that some kind of feedback on which contracts are in progress would have been nice. if i continue to work on this i would probably do that. thanks for playing the game.

pralista 2023-05-04 04:49

relaxing game but i didnt what just happen

alisher-fazilov 2023-05-04 05:32

Congratulations guys, you got a very good idle game in a short period of time. You could refine and release on mobile devices, I would play such a game. But you need to diversify the mechanics and make the system of failing orders and their complexity more understandable. But overall I liked it, a relaxing game.

svenerik 2023-05-04 07:07

A very nice little game right up to my alley thematically and well a nice relaxing one too~ Though is a bit of a need for additional mechanics, but the base is solid! I liked the graphical style, everything feels coherent, as one unit~ great work!

wolfier 2023-05-04 18:30

I enjoyed this one a bit.

Balance wise I think I can level some point: So pigeons cost 25 for 10, and each mission gives an upfront and a success reward. There's no reason to do a very difficult mission that requires 60 pigeons and the upfront reward is only 10. Your pigeons probably won't come back making the success reward worthless largely regardless of what it is. On the flip side a very difficult mission that pays the full cost of pigeons upfront is always worth taking as the risk is removed.

As for other criticisms, i had no idea which batch of pigeons was returning when they returned which makes that portion feel really detached. Also I felt that each tick was like half a second longer then they needed to be, not sure how to describe that.

dongle 2023-05-05 01:43

I don't really see it as a management game, to be honest. Also, I think there might be a bug with the upgrades, as they don't seem to have much effect. In fact, I was able to beat the game by simply spamming the "buy contracts" and "buy pigeons" buttons. I only had to buy food once and didn't need any other upgrades. Just thought I'd let you know.

The music was pretty good.

paulhocker 2023-05-05 02:20

@dongle yes - there are some balance issues, thus is the way with ludum dare jams

dongle 2023-05-05 03:06

@paulhocker I feel ya. I think the upgrades not working correctly counts as game breaking in your case. You should be able to fix them assuming you're not adding new ones. If you want to.

I feel balancing for Ludum Dare is impossible, as some people want to play casual games while others like challenging nearly impossible to beat games.

paulhocker 2023-05-05 04:34

@dongle I agree and I have already made some changes but I don't want to change what I submitted. I will probably end up putting the fixed version on itch at some point. I appreciate your feedback, and thanks for playing it.

zelirman 2023-05-05 07:41

The music was really setting the mood! gameplay wise it was fine though it rapidly seemed more apparent i just needed to buy as many contracts as possible and purchase the pigeons to do it. Very fitting game for the theme well done!

highskies 2023-05-05 16:58

very nice mood and unique game

Hooray! My pigeons are super pigeons :) we proved that the British pigeon is superior to the German pigeon :D The whole game was a lovely experience. My only criticism might be that it was a little too easy. At one point I had too many pigeons but I didnt observe any negative effect.

But hey its LD :D I enjoyed what you produced and I think you have a good core for a game you could develop further into something really solid for the mobile marketplace!

poppy-entertainment 2023-05-06 10:30

Potentially very interesting game, I understand it's a jam, but some risk/penalty factors would have been very good: they would to create a sense of "anxiety" in the gameplay, coherent with the setting is. Very nice music and cute flying pigeons.

mnemosynevl 2023-05-06 10:33

Very good game. I caught myself being sad when the game ended, because I can no longer expand my army of pigeons :). Additionally, game holds good educative value.

luis-priego-cuenca 2023-05-06 19:36

I like the concept of the game, if it is exploited with more visual resources it could be something quite striking, the premise goes a long way.

francis 2023-05-06 22:47

Cool idea for the theme of a game, and really enjoyed the overall art style and aesthetic. As others have mentioned, I also found I could beat the game by just accepting every contract and buying more and more pigeons.

nikaz 2023-05-09 16:29

It's interesting relaxing game. It's has balance issues, but it's ok, especially for jam. I like the pigeons that fly around. Good job!

sempra 2023-05-11 15:39

I feel relaxed. Almost too relaxed. I had a great time trying your game, well done for making it in such a short time. Great entry, you nailed it!

cheesepencil 2023-05-11 23:42

my pigeons are famous because they never once failed a contract <3 gg good game definitely 5/5 mood

shp 2023-05-14 14:25

lovely visuals, well done making the most out of simple assets, the management gameplay works pretty decent as well, although feels like it was maybe a bit too easy to own an amount of pigeons well past capacity by sending them immediately on jobs when possible

ironhandmd 2023-05-15 06:53

nice game! it took a while for me to get the hang of it and I find it enjoyable sorting out contracts and getting the appropriate upgrades. The art is simple and the music is appropriate for the gameplay, overall I enjoyed playing, keep it up!

stevie257 2023-05-15 19:46

The graphics in this game may be modest, but they create a cohesive and visually appealing world that draws players into the gameplay

nonimad 2023-05-17 23:37

I won! Quite polished experience even if it was a bit too passive for me. Great job!
