Pretty good. I really liked how both players played cards on a shared board instead of their own sides. Amazing artstyle as well.

gamebuilder 2023-01-09 01:06

A very unusual game. The graphics are polished and the music is catchy. I had a bit of trouble learning the rules, but got the hang of it eventually. I was confused partly by the explosion effects — didn’t realize it was my plants growing. It was easy to confuse my plants with those of the opponent as well.

Also, I seemed to get a preponderance of water cards — I wish I had more rocks and plants. Maybe it was the luck of the draw. Still, it’s a challenging game that wasn’t too difficult. Overall, a solid entry.

@verttixpertti Thank you :blush:

@gamebuilder I'm glad you liked the game. Thanks a lot for the feedback, it's very helpful to know which things you found confusing. I've added some instructions to this page to hopefully make it easier for future players to understand.

I see what you mean regarding the water. Balancing a game with random elements was a bit difficult. I had hoped that players would like some redundant cards for swapping with new cards after winning but in hind sight the starting deck could have been much better put together.

It took me a while to get the tactics of this game but when I did it was very fun! Very well done. Will play again.

nartyna 2023-01-10 16:45

Beautiful and fun game with great art and sound, love it!

papaya 2023-01-10 16:57

The gameplay was fun and the entire package is polished with good music and graphics! I was able to craft a deck that specialize in blocking enemy plants by planting low cost plants or just rock them. It was very rewarding and satisfying! Some small feedback: the audio seems to glitch whenever a plant is grown. Thanks for the game!

truechips 2023-01-10 17:04

I did it! Incredibely fun card game! Please please please add multiplayer some day!!!

Also would be cool if the AI was a bit smarter, haha.

Good game! I really like the graphic and music of this game, and the idea of playing card on a shared board.

As for the gameplay experience - It's very good in general and can have some polish to be even better. For example, I felt that the water is not very useful and AI does use its water, so basically I wait for water - but, it's only made in 48h! Great job!

genericpirate 2023-01-10 17:05

Its a cool and fun little game. I think the concept is very interesting, you could make it more balanced by having a coinflip decide who goes first for example. As currently the AI waters most of the tiles and there is no real need to have any water in your deck of cards. Or maybe something to protect plants from stones secretly or something along those lines. But very cool and I'm sure you could do a lot more with it. Would be interested to see some more varieties and come back to play it again.

realtanhen 2023-01-10 17:05

It's really fun figuring the strategy for this, I gotta say! It feels polished and the AI is really very good, trying to block off my tates and all!

hexyvexy 2023-01-10 17:13

Well executed little game with cute art and a neat mechanic, well done! Lots of potential with the format-I felt like the water mechanic could use a tweak-perhaps if water was in 1x2, 2x1, shapes, or if overwatering crops reduced their value?

fluburbio 2023-01-10 17:23

Wow, not only is it gorgeous, it's also easy to understand and very well designed for a jam game, especially for a single person game! Congratulations and thanks for this game. I would definitely pay for a fully-fledged version.

pickydogfish 2023-01-10 17:49

A simple and really fun game. The rules were easy to learn and the effects on cards added enough variety. As others already mentioned, it could be a bit clearer who placed the card. Maybe you could change the color of the gold corner of the opponents cards? And the explosion sound when plants grow is a bit out of place. But the game still felt pretty good all around and I enjoyed playing it a lot!

shreemp 2023-01-10 18:23

cute card game with fun plays like sabotaging your enemies' water == 4 tile with grass >:)

also i think the difference between your cards and enemy cards could be a little bit clearer esepcially when fully grown as they're both dark hue vibes but otherwise really good game with crunchy sfx and pleasant music.

noskro 2023-01-10 18:25

Super simple game. Very easy and no challenge at all.... and I lost :D My first impression was indeed, that the game looks great, but the gameplan is rather simple. But with more and more card it turned out to be a great stategy game. I'd also love to see a player v player version of that after the game. I can imagine playing that with my with on the bus or whenever we got 5 minute to fill.

daxic 2023-01-10 18:41

I enjoyed the game, like the ashetics and font is nicely stylised but still easily readable. It is nicely scaled (I lose few times) and option to build a deck is great addition. Congrats!

teddyreid 2023-01-10 19:10

My favorite entry so far.

At first I thought the idea was kind of limited, but then it all started to click and everything fell into place. Weaponising your rocks and witholding your water cards become a kind of arms race as you try to maximize the use of the available squares while also angling for opportunities to drop a couple of tier-3 and tier-4 plants onto the board.

I'd LOVE to play this against another person!

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-10 19:57

Wow, this is really cool. Well polished game. I had a fun. Damn chicken, I had to retry 3 times :D, so it was also challenging which I thought at the beginning it wouldn't be. Nice art style and sounds. Well done!

(Only technical issue I see, the sound when the plant is fully grown is a bit distorted.)

galvanized-toadstool 2023-01-11 00:27

That was fun, I spent a good hour or so playing this one. I had some trouble beating the rooster, it took about 6 or 7 tries. It seemed pretty well balanced for a compo entry. The AI wasn't that smart, but if they weren't it would be impossible to beat :) It did take me a bit to figure out which plants were mine. Before I figured out about the border I used a rock on one of my plants :( It also would have been nice if you are having trouble with an opponent, like I did, if you could go back and swap different cards. Thank you for making this game, I had fun playing it :)

maymay 2023-01-11 00:57

Really fun game! I love the deck building aspect, and the balance is really good for a game made in such a short span of time. Even though the enemies weren't super challenging, I still had fun devising my strategy. It does seem like the enemies are reluctant to drop rocks on your plants, which would have definitely made it more challenging against some opponents. Maybe it was just RNG, but in a couple rounds the AI just dropped rocks and didn't really plant anything for almost the whole game.

jason-wilson 2023-01-11 02:56

Really fun card game! Some of the later battles turned out to be really easy, but I think it may have been due to RNG more than anything. A lot of watering and rock placing, and not much in the way of actually placing crops.

I lost one of the earlier battles and was offered the chance to retry. However, I really wanted to rearrange my deck as I felt I had made a suboptimal deck, but wasn't given the option to. I did manage to get past that battle, so it turned out in the end, but it did feel like something was missing there.

The art is extremely well done and made the game feel extremely polished!

The "explosion" sound was a little hard on the ears in my head phones.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game. Great work!

chiranjiv 2023-01-11 03:19

Wow great game, been playing this over and over, first I couldn't understand but then it was a bomb, amazing gob done!

tsamf 2023-01-11 03:20

Really enjoyed your game. The mechanics are nice and the music is really good. I enjoy being a cat.

vidarn 2023-01-11 07:18

Wow, thanks a lot for the kind comments folks! I'm really glad you liked the game, though I agree with what many of you have said about the AI and the watering mechanics needing a bit more work. I feel like I should have allocated more time to playtesting and balancing, especially in a game with so much randomness.

Also, I see what you mean with the explosion sound effect being hard on the ears. This was the first time I tried doing sound effects and I had no idea how to make the "poof" sound I wanted. I was using the little speakers in my screen and I thought the sound I came up with was a bit weak. I should have listened in headphones - ouch! I'm so sorry for any discomfort!

@pickydogfish I love the idea of coloring the gold corner differently for the opponent, that's a great idea! I think it could look really cool and also make it easier to distinguish the cards.

@jason-wilson @galvanized-toadstool Oh, you're right! I should definitely have allowed you to rearrange the deck when retrying. I think it would have been a really easy change as well, I just didn't think of it :grimacing: . Thanks for pointing it out!

Edit: I've updated the game to make the explosion sound effect less nasty!

korvack 2023-01-11 09:55

A very orriginal concept and quite fun even if there is no real challenge in front of this AI (It is still quite effective). I really liked the relaxing atmosphere. The game can be improved by adding synergies between the cards, but it's good work =)

echo-gameworks 2023-01-17 03:31

Super polished game with an excellent mechanic that becomes really deep. Loved the art style and learning curve. One of the best games in the jam so far. Great work!

samuli 2023-01-17 16:57

Awesome entry! I would have loved faster difficulty and game mechanic progression, but at least it was very easy to pick and play with the current flow.

grid96 2023-01-17 21:36

I love the artwork, the entire style works so well with the game! the puns are great too! incredible how much you can make in one weekend and the game does not lack any department :O

vidarn 2023-01-19 09:58

@echo-gameworks @grid96 Thank you for playing, and for the nice comments! I'm glad you liked the game @samuli Thanks for the feedback regarding the pacing. I think I agree that the difficulty could have scaled a bit faster, and perhaps the game could have been shorter as a result. Making those judgements during the jam is something I'd like to get better at, so it's good to get feedback.

oadt 2023-01-21 15:56

Wow, fantastic arts and music but also a great and creative game idea. In the first round it seemed a bit basic because I could just snitch the watered tiles from my opponent, but quickly some more interesting cards were revealed in the following rounds. I think if the player knew the deck of the opponent the player could actively play against the opponents strategy, which I think would add even more depth to the game. But of course you only hat 48h to make the game and for that I am amazed how much thought there already is and how well it already works. Would be interested to see what this turns into if you continue working on this!
