I made it to the end! And as far as it looks right now, I was the very first! I liked the game, its longer than I expected. You could reuse old mechanics more (like the moving spikes) but the content is great and it has 4 tile maps? Good work!

pxldev 2021-04-25 18:35

@bloham Thanks! The game at level 3 uses 9 tilemaps, I know I could have re-used the mechanics in newer levels, but I didnt actually have that much time to make it (about 24h).

The game is fun and design is very good. I mean in these kind of games usually developers tend to fall downa pitfall which is you cant know whether to jump down or not. In this game torches shows us the way. However, there are some bugs which caused me to fail to finish the game. Which is when player jumps on vertically fast moving platforms player can fall down sometimes as it can be seen in the following picture: Screenshot from 2021-04-25 21-59-11.png Overall, game is very good gamedesign-wise, but needs some work in the programming part.

jadegems83 2021-04-25 19:34

Amazing game, one thing though, this game was amazing but the movement can be, how do I say this? Tricky.

2bitcrook 2021-04-25 23:53

Woo I found the treasure! I agree with @bloham that it was longer than I expected! You really kept adding new mechanics to keep it fresh. I really enjoyed those vertical smashers (they made me think of Super Mario World :D)

Movement was nice and responsive but felt a little confined. I think some things out of frame meant it was hard to know what was coming up so if the camera was a little less zoomed in and showed more of the environment that could make it a smoother experience. Very happy there were checkpoints, and you knew where to place them!

Great entry =]

Fun Game!! I really like the tight chunky pixel action!!

The flame checkpoints were really helpful for me, a few segments got me stuck, but I'm glad I didn't have to start from the beginning.

At the beginning the game was really messing with me, I don't like platformers that go down, where you feel like you are taking a "leap of faith", but your game is fair, broadcasting within view what ends up being safe.

But I would say that the first time I saw the "pyramid" I thought it was a "powerup" or some ancient artifact. Turned out to be a spike and I died (That was a rude realization)

Wonderful game ! I really love the Art, the game as a whole feels like a real game, very polished, no rough angles. I'm admirative of the quality some of you guys reach in such a short period of time, very inspiring !

minibobbo 2021-04-26 15:28

I liked this. Graphics were simple but effective. The platforming seemed solid and I didn't slide off things too often or have anything unexpected happen. I do have a couple of suggestions though.

I think that it felt a little fast given the small resolution and required memorization rather than platforming skill and reaction. Maybe slowing the game down slightly and making the jump a tad more floaty would help the feel?

There were some leaps of faith that I had to take. In particular this one felt jarring because normally I go for the torch but it is impossible to get to. leapoffaith.png

Also, making all the deadly stuff purple then suddenly dropping a regular colored spike in there was mean. Any time you spend the game communicating something (purple = bad) and then suddenly subvert that for no apparent reason you feel betrayed.

Also, the camera was super jittery. I loved the camera effects you had going with the lock areas and the selective focusing but it was always just a little off for me.

Hope you don't mind the constructive criticism! This is a great entry and I'm hoping that the comments help you take it to the next level! Really they are all small things!

pxldev 2021-04-26 18:36

@minibobbo Thanks! About the spike, I did make the spike different color on purpose, it was suppose to show that dont trust anything new. There are many places on the levels where I tried to make people experiement and make them think before they do anything.

tauheed-game-dev 2021-04-28 01:29

Nice game man, especially for 24hours worth of work. I really enjoyed some of the jumping puzzles and the art and sound were great

publicidadeba 2021-04-28 01:56

This world is coherent and the level design tells me this is not your first rodeo. Good entry! I want to see more from you in the future.

minibobbo 2021-04-30 12:28

Hey @pxldev, I noticed that this is your first game created for Ludum Dare. Congratulations on finishing!

I also noticed that you are under the 20 ratings needed for a ranking. This is mostly caused because you have only rated one other game. There are definitely diminishing returns on the number of plays the later it gets in the rating period so make sure you block off some time to rate and play other's games as well! I don't want to see you not get rated.

shubart 2021-04-30 18:56

Excellent game. It is well balanced. Beginning slowly and becomming harder and harder. It reminds me of Rick Dangerous (one of the good old game). You may improve it just by improving a little the camera behaviour (Maybe a litte to slow to center on the character or a field of view a little to small). I took great pleasure finishing it. Thank you

barelyevengames 2021-04-30 23:25

I played your game! Check it out! https://youtu.be/DHfy_7ZtjHk

john-chapman 2021-05-02 01:51

The level design and art on this are terrific. You did such a great job making a fun experience start to finish. Very impressed with the amount you got done in 24 hours. Congrats! I would just say that the collision boxes on the hazards are a little too large and the camera movement feels very choppy right now and could use some smoothing out. Overall, great experience though.

hugimugi7 2021-05-03 19:40

This was pretty good, for 24 hours there's a lot of levels! There wasn't anything innovative on the gameplay as it is just the usual platforming mechanics, but you did execute them very well which is a huge plus. Loved the coherent pixel scaling and nice music. One thing that bothered me during the gameplay was the restrictively small camera view, I couldn't see the necessary information to make a jump in some situations. But surprisingly well done for 24 hours! :grinning:

katreenashy 2021-05-04 06:22

Very nice game , so much fun ,I like the checkpoints their places are good, Well Done .

labete 2021-05-04 06:54

I like all the shortcuts :D. Smooth game, nice pixel art and music :)

substain 2021-05-04 07:18

I liked the level design, I only thought the difficulty progression could be smoother. Also, I first thought the wind elemets were spikes. Altogether really nice work!

mololo 2021-05-04 08:49

I love the graphics and I had a lot of fun playing, the music is great and the fact that this game was made in only 24 hours makes it even better.

Great game overall, good job.

loretv 2021-05-04 09:43

Nice game! Really liked the art style ^^

escortti 2021-05-04 10:03

Really good platformer with excellent pixel art. The jump physics felt good. Spikes were well color coded so it's easy to know what kills you. I only had problems with the blind jumps which seemed to be abundant.

lrvstudios 2021-05-04 18:46

I liked very much this game! Excellent music, art and intuitive mechanics.

The only minor thing that i think you could add is a tiny control of the camera - as it becames impossible to see what is beneath, and i died several times 'cause of that haha.

In overall, i almost couldn't stop playing it. It's catchy, and kinda reminded me the oldest version of "prince of persia" - with this art-style.

I loved it. Great work and i wish you the best.

fadrikalexander 2021-05-04 19:15

what a simple little game, the level design needs a bit of work but it's nice and using the torches to guide the player to where he should land is brillent, the camera is the biggest disadvantage it's jittery and laggy and caused my head to hurt, also I got stuck inside the walls that move up and down that have wood under them in area three. great entry keep it up.

mikoziq 2021-05-04 19:27

I found the treasure!

Pros:

- Simple and good graphics - Good level design - Fun mechanics and traps - Simple soundscape - Thank you for the checkpoint system - Cute Miner character

Cons:

- Cinemachine setup you used is very janky and makes everything played like without V-sync (stuttering character) - Camera does not follow movement correctly. Probably cinemachine setup has too wide offset of character follow - No coyote-time for ridges to allow player late jumping - I think air-winds are a bit too random - Floor, for stone'y one, felt a bit icy?

Good work nontheless!

olddog 2021-05-05 11:22

nice game : the character controlers really smooth  graphic is nice too

jandourek 2021-05-05 14:47

I really liked the graphics and level design in this one. Also, the controls felt really responsive, although a bit limiting. The game lacked some sort of gimmick that would differentiate it from other platformers, but even without it the game was pretty fun and offered a surprising amount of challenges. It didn't feel too difficult with the checkpoints but still kept you on your toes. Good job!

koemeterion 2021-05-06 09:53

Very nice graphics, fun music and sound effects. The checkpoints where fair and the controls felt great. As @mikoziq mentioned janky / stuttering character what made it a bit difficult at the beginning. Solid game and I enjoyed it, even these platformers are not my cup of tea.

itsisaac 2021-05-06 12:55

A veryu moce game! It was nicelt implemented, however not a very innovative take on a platformer. BUT it was still pretty nice :) I think the music was abit repetitive and it was the game was quite choppy. I think this might be being cause by your smooth follow camera? Good stuff.

sharkmax218 2021-05-06 14:29

Good platformer in pixel style.

shakedimus 2021-05-11 11:18

I really liked the music and the graphics, it gave a nice atmosphere. The jumping was good, but it was quite hard for me, but I haven't played that many platformers. I do think a bit longer transition on dying would show me what killed me a bit better. Also I got stuck in a platform and couldn't get out: bug.png Overall a very solid platformer style game.

snails84 2021-05-13 22:01

Well designed game with good art and sound. The camera movement made me kind of motion sick though.

mikouaji 2021-05-15 21:39

Fun to play! a bit frustrating at times (specially when i slipped and felt in the same place 5 times in a row :D ) Graphics are great, music if very fitting! Has great speed running potential just add a timer and also a death score at the end would be a nice addition :D Nice!
