Many thanks! I'm checking your game out now. It looks freaking amazing from the art posted that I see. O_O!
Your game is nearly unbeatable sadly... I can't dodge the attacks of the boss and the range of the sword is too low. Also your vertical gameplay is lacking, a vertical attack would be cool. In short, cool concept, cool art, cool gameplay but a bad execution. Keep going ! You have potential, don't let this put you down :)
The game is nice, simple and gets the job done. I like how you introduce one mechanic at a time. The game is hard but beatable, with a bit of cheese. Unfortunately i think a game so hard should be more forgiving when a player dies. Sometimes it takes longer to wait for the game over sequence than to make an attempt. Overall it just needs some polishing. Good Job!
The 3rd boss was really tricky for me. Only managed to beat him when i mashed the attack button and ignored the dash mechanic - overall very nice entry :)
Nice concept of keeping your head more on the delayed movement on your companion than your own. As other state third level with dash doesn't seem to work as intended? I would imagine the companion would also get invulnerable frame when you dash. I felt like the first level was harder than second, so maybe swap them or tune difficulty to be steadily increasing instead. Otherwise cool game.
Overall a pretty fun entry. Personally I found the first boss to be the hardest, and the third to be the easiest, though I did end up cheesing the first boss by just facing Gizmick and mashing my attack button, so when the boss tried to hit him, he'd run into my sword and retreat upwards :P
It was neat getting new mechanics in each fight and getting new variations in the bosses.
The graphics and audio were very pleasant as well. Nice job. :)
This was a nice little boss rush game. I found that my best strategy was to just run around on the ground and sword attack. There's probably some more tuning you could do here to give the bosses clearer telegraphing on their attacks and weaknesses. For example, you could have the first boss stay on screen if its going to slam down and bounce back up faster than you can attack, but then fly off screen and slam down faster before stopping for a minute to be vulnerable after the slam. I think the first boss's health was also a bit high. It took a lot of hitting and waiting to defeat them. I like all your art and music. Having some destruction effects when the boss is defeated would also make beating them feel a lot more satisfying. Nice job!
As a player who's not that into boss battles, I came to enjoy this and was surprised that there were 2 more levels after the first. I like how you introduce new mechanics in each one and there's a little technique on how to beat them. The characters in the pixel artstyle look nice and are easily readable on the dark background. One thing I did find out in level 1 is that I could just stand right next to my little friend and spam the attack button and eventually win. Other than that, really solid game and nice tunes as well.
I like what you have here. I like how mechanics are introduced as you progress through the bosses, however, I found no use for the the double jump... I assume I was supposed to use to to my advantage during the 2nd boss, but found that hitting the 2nd boss regularly was good enough.
I did find it easy to cheese all the bosses which kind of got rid of the challenge. The third boss suffers from this the most, as I was able to dash through the guy and spam my sword basically beating him without effort.
This game had nice graphics and some killer music as well! Nice job on the game man.
Hey I realy like the basic concept of this game, I do have some points of improvement,
I don't really see the purpose of "gizmick" the little animal to keep alive, why is he even in the scene and why do I need to keep it alive, it doesn't serve a purpose. Maybe you could've added an ability to him to make him more usefull.
Second the movement doesn't realy fit the bosses, the first boss was easily defeated by standing in one spot and hitting him while he comes down on you. the second boss the same but step away when he comes down.
The third boss I think I didn't really understand, you get a dash but when dashing through it's first attack he instantly kills gizmick I didn't find a good way to solve this problem and ended up defeating him by just hitting him fast at the begginning but this felt more of a cheese strategic than actualy beating the boss.
I really like the art style and the sound you put into this game, congrats on the game and keep going!
Very well done. The retro feeeling is relatively authentic, mainly because of your music - I like it. The third boss felt invicible the first 2 minutes, but it was ok after some bashing. The first monster is indeed the hardest as it forces us to move, to jump, that can be weird if we compare with the last one... But well, it is a jam game, the beginning of most game is almost always better than the end :p Good job
I finished the game and it was fun. Maybe you can try to do different paths on the same boss. However it's a good starting point for a bossfight-game. Good retro graphics and music! A good work.
Fantastic music and visual style! You did a lot with just grayscale. I love the Moon-in-Majora’s-Mask-esque boss designs.
I agree with a lot of commenters here that the difficulty is out of whack. The first boss seemed pretty unbeatable to me until I realized I could just stand in one place and spam the sword. The second one felt the most like a real puzzle I had to solve, though it didn't take very long to figure it out. The third one died almost instantly when I ran up to it and spammed my sword (didn't even need to dash).
Also, dash seemed pretty much useless to me because the creature follows after you and doesn't get any invulnerability, but I assume I was just using it wrong.
Super fun! 3rd boss was soooo difficult though
Simple yet pretty good. I like its old school vibe especially your chiptune soundtrack. Cool idea with this pet(?) that you must carry about, it makes the game harder. Imo would be cool to make an animation nor sound effects for the enemies, like the idle one, attacking one and especially when you hit them. But I'm sure you know it without my advice. Keep up, it was fun!
I like it a ton! Reminds me of Cave Story with the boss sprite and bomberman with the player sprite. I think if the bosses had blinking animations and a little more variety in attacks then it could be an even better experience. Good work with the music! Very good game, I want to see more!
