This was a lot of fun! the platforming mechanics of moving the shield made it feel very fast paced and exciting.

I think there should be a way to end the round early tho as a lot of times I knew i didn't have enough health to win and just had to run into a wall until I died.

juhani-koskinen 2020-04-21 19:31

Loved the music and the art. Made a great mood for the game! Also, a game just around the sliding mechanic would be awesome! Don't get me wrong, I liked the game overall, but I especially liked those parts in the game! :D

thedouche 2020-04-21 19:34

Really liked your game! Im impresses that you got alot of different features in such a short period of time. I felt like the controlling was a little janky, but over all, really good! :D

makkurataichou 2020-04-21 19:34

Great work on making everything from scratch!! I had a good time playing, but this game is really hard! In the second level the water seems to clip through the shield and destroy the flame even if it's up, so I couldn't get past it. Might be a good idea to ramp up tutorial mechanics more gradually in separate levels rather than all at once? The tutorial text was much appreciated though!

Also having the levels timed while also teaching the player several new mechanics feels pretty punishing, could use a little more difficulty balance!

landberglife 2020-04-21 19:44

@deylinia Hi Deylinia, i'm glad you liked it. There is a way to restart a level early, we just forgot to tell the player about it :/ If you press "esc" or "start"(on a xbox controller) there is a pause menu with a restart level option.

By far my favourite game of the jam so far - really innovative concept with massive potential. I couldn't really get on with how the controls were laid out, maybe if up arrow was the same as spacebar that would help. I think I also struggled with the first level most lol so maybe some more time? Great job.

disperse 2020-04-21 20:03

Definitely needs a controller with an analog stick. I tried with arrow keys at first and it wasn't the same. There's something strange going on when running into the wind or up a hill that causes you to put your shield down even if you're pressing forward. I'd like to see a video of the developers beating all the levels, I got to one that I figured was unbeatable. (Waterfall near the start and a big upside down loop that puts you at the base of a jump). The character design is great and the game at its best puts you into a flow state. Some control awkwardness is preventing this from living up to its full potential. @deylinia you can press the start button on a controller to restart the level at any time.

@disperse Hello disperse, Yeah I think I am the only one on the team that playes with keyboard. One of our artists, mechanicallife, recorded a trailer for the game in which he played some of the levels. It is uploaded now :)

disperse 2020-04-21 21:00

@landberglife OK! I missed that you can jump and stick to the ceiling. The trailer is great and reminds me how much I liked the music.

Definitely an enjoyable game with great mechanics. This was very well done. I really liked the difficulty ramp and thought that you did a good job of introducing new mechanics slowly.

primalshadow 2020-04-22 15:50

Very impressive game! It was pretty intuitive and didn't take long to figure out how to play properly. Very innovative with the use of the shield as both being used for movement and protecting the flame.

dominium11 2020-04-22 15:51

I simply loved it! It feels so smooth to play and fits the theme so nicely, the audio is really great, the only thing bothering me was how the wind sometimes completely stopped me but i guess thats how i should be! Cheers

bot12313 2020-04-22 15:52

I was kinda confused with first levels but the more I play the more I like it. Good job

Loved this game ! It's easy to get started and I love how the shield mechanic can be used in many ways.

griet 2020-04-22 15:56

This was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed the mechanics of the movement and the mood of the game. Great job!

curtis-pelissier 2020-04-22 16:10

Wow that's really impressive for a jam game :stuck_out_tongue: Nice work, I really like the gameplay ! Can't wait to see your next games.

sabeurre 2020-04-22 16:25

I really liked the gamefeel, especially the part where you slide, it's really satisfying. I was a bit confused with the controls at first, but when I played with a controller, everything went fine  Well played ! Love the graphics too and the theme interpretation.

madalaski 2020-04-22 16:52

At its best it is a masterclass in level design and gameplay fluidity. At its worst it's pretty buggy, laggy (especially around waterfalls) and potentially way too sensitive. Any slight incline when moving against the wind with your shield will be considered a wall and force you in a slide, causing you to backtrack a tonne. It was definitely frustrating in the last 2-3 levels but not enough to make me quit. I got to the credits simply because this game deserved completion through it's music, sound design, art style and concept. You must take it further into a full game, it's a great idea but you also MUST first polish it and fix its bugs. I was flying through walls and when in full-screen, pressing ESC to open the menu and restart would bring me out of it. All in all, an incredibly impressive entry for the jam that could've probably done with more fine-tuning than more levels.

edalbung 2020-04-22 18:32

I was really impressed by the quality of your game ! The concept is neat and fresh (not too cold in order to keep the fire on :P)

The controls with the gamepad were good, especially when using the shield with the right stick ! However, for the Jump, I would prefer instead the "A" button, I think that it is more intuitive.

Very nice work, nothing to say more !

le-slo 2020-04-24 18:14

Wow, pretty impressive the amount of content and mechanics you have here: wind water, flame, sliding, jumps, different timers... great work on that! I played on keyboard and had the same problem that madalaski describes above, when an horizontal key push was considered a slide so I lost a lot of times in the levels with wind. I did encounter once a collision bug where I ended inside the walls and couldn't exit, but since levels are so short (great design choice) it wasn't much of a big deal. The sliding acceleration and jumpìng felt specially great, the music fits very well the type of game, the tutorials were well paced (although the water tutorial felt a bit cheap because you just learned to slide and as it is fast, you don't have to read the text and react). My sincere congratulations, with a bit more of polish this game could be just awesome!

fougereble 2020-04-24 22:27

Really impressive! I like the sliding system, it’s nice. The graphics are good. Good job!

vesper 2020-04-26 21:22

This definitely has a lot of potential, but the way the controls are scattered across the keyboard takes some getting used to and never feels entirely smooth.

Also I was a bit confused about the appearance of what looked like ramps (not the red one) in the background, but no matter what I did I could never actually get on them? So overall a bit of a learning curve. Some of the tutorial text isn't really visible when you need it to be on the first play through. Fairly sure there was something beyond a waterfall at one point, but I was so busy trying to stay alive I never had time to read it. Could use some tweaking here and there, but the art was great, and the core gameplay has a lot of potential. Pretty impressive that it ran as smoothly as it did considering the time in which it was made, so well done!

mungo 2020-05-07 08:36

Cool game! There are a few areas that could be improved, like walking into the wind is pretty difficult and sometimes puts your shield away. Some elements of the game could be introduced a bit more gently, such as wall-jumping with the shield. Also a fixed jump height might be better for this kind of game, but that one's just my opinion.

On a lighter note, this is one of my favourite games this jam!

lilkrit 2020-05-11 15:23

One of the best games I played this jam :)

fractal 2020-05-12 20:00

Quite difficult to synchronize both hands, but pretty good!
