Really simple but complete in itself. I really like it! I feel your game falls into "take a simple concept and execute it well". Solid entry!

Very innovative idea very fun to play
nice fun little game, can't play too long as the dots messes up your mind :) maybe its just me. I can't able to save myself from blue dots what are they suppose to be. Anyways good attempt.
The graphics are simple, but I like the style. Maybe add something that idicates the score of the player and also add something that get's the player to move around (random coins that he has to collect), because the best strategy seems to be to just rotate in a good spot with enough space.
vERY NICE!
Nice little game, solid work, as already stated earlier, would be nice to see the score while playing and to have a reason to move around
Huh, that was a lot harder than I originally thought it was going to be. It was super fun and intense to try to get a better score, my best was 53 seconds and I'm honestly pretty good with it, there were so many blue thingies chasing me lol. Graphics were just correctly done for a game like that, nothing too insane and just good simple graphics, which also goes for the gameplay itself. Simple yet really fun and addictive!
I don't really even know if 53 seconds was a good time, so if it was you can hit me up or if it wasn't, I would gladly go and try it again to hit a better time :) Hope to see you in later LD's as well, nice job!
*EDIT* Forgot to mention the audio, was also good and fitting for the game!
The game was alright. I didn't like long restart time and fake loading screen (don't tell me it takes 2 seconds to load red, blue and black circle). It was first an unnecesarily long death animation, then the fake loading screen, AND a long countdown.
But I have much bigger problem with this entry: If I understand correctly, this is a game made 2 months ago for the Brackeys Game Jam 2020.1. You just took the game and submitted it to Ludum Dare. If that is the case, it is not okay and strongly against the Ludum Dare spirit. You cannot just take a complete game and make it into an entry for Ludum Dare, and it definitely does not qualify as a boilerplate basecode. You better have a pretty darn good explanation for that, or don't hope to attend Ludum Dare again I guess.
Simple but polished! Nice job!!
Fun to play! :D My main comment: I felt like I should be able to go a bit closer to a hole before falling in (living on the edge ;)). Otherwise, awesome job!
@boltkey I am not sure why are you so hateful or why are you throwing threats at me but ok let's respond to each and every point: 1- I had to make the start and restart times long because I wanted to give time for the first wave of hole to be properly procedurally generated and this was the only option I had due to my limited free time during the jam . The same goes for the fake loading screens (I didn't have enough time to think about and idea to hide the loading screens ) . The death animation was a bit long I agree .
2- Now for your "much bigger" problem . You are totally correct that this game was initially made for brackeys game jam 2020.1 . However , I didn't just took the game and submitted it to ludum dare . My submission to the brackeyes game jam had some big issue which was : The map was finite and what I mean by this is that I wasn't generating holes during the game , I just instantly generated some holes at the start of the game and that's it . So I had to but borders around the map in order to prevent the player from getting out . I also didn't have loading screens because I was instantly generating hole at the start of the game and this method was prone for a lot of errors so I had to change it to a much safer but slower method . And about the finite map , I made it infinite this time so the player can move wherever they want and the holes will keep generating (and destroyed) efficiently . And if you want a proof for this , check out the only comment on my game page which was talking about my "limited playground" Capture5.PNG
3- Now if we check the rules of the ludum dare jam here Capture4.PNG it says that I can use "any" base-code I have . So , I am not breaking any rules of the jam and this is definitely not against the jam spirit since I worked hard during the little time I had in the jam to improve my very simple and "somewhat broken" game I had before .
Finally , I really don't think that commenting so hatefully and aggressively is going to help anyone.
drama aside. solid game but the "death" animation could be better. gj
@gehad 'base code' means code that 'isn't related' to the game you submit. So code for managing sprites/creating menu buttons/handling the playing of music etc is fine, but not starting with half your game.
Even if it was allowed you'll probably still get bad ratings, it's a bit of an unfair advantage over other contestants
@boltkey you didnt opt out of graphics and audio, so you're still breaking the rules, and dont feel attacked, mistakes can happen, were here to have fun, but understand that it is infuriating to see someone else not playing by the rules.
@lone-wolf I totally understand what you are saying . However , I couldn't find any specifications for what a base-code should be like on the ludum dare site . Secondly , my game isn't by any means a AAA game or even a complex game to make . It's a very very simple game with primitive shapes that most people here can make in under 72 hours and other people already made games that are way more complex than mine during the jam , so it is not an unfair advantage when you think about it
Nice and nimple game, the death animation could be better but the game itself is pretty enjoyable! You have executed the simple concept really well so well done! (:
> so it is not an unfair advantage when you think about it
@Gehad, Ludum Dare does not have a handicap system afaik. Imagine a 500m race, but some people decide they will start at the 200m mark because they think they are slower than their competitors. Does that seem fair?
@boltkey it is fair in ludum dare's eyes because of the any base-code rule . Plus , I said this sentence because I said that my game is very very simple compared to some other more complex games of the jam which have complete systems already built in place.
@Gehad You still don't seem to understand what base-code is, so let's have another example.
Let's just pretend there is a hypothetical house building jam, just like we have here, but about building houses. There is a theme, time limit and everything. Competitors are allowed to have base of their houses already built before the competition. One competitor, however, has a house already built. It is not anything great, a simple wooden cottage, but still a house you can spend a nice summer weekend in.
The competition starts, and while everyone is building their houses, the one competitor just paints the walls of his house and repairs a damaged roof. He then claims that he built the whole house in the time limit, and that the house he started with was just the base.
Now, was he playing fair and by the rules, although he knew he was standing against professional teams of builders and architects building beautiful residences and had no chance of winning anyway?
(spoiler: no he wasn't)
@boltkey Man man man , I totally understand what your coming from but the phrase ( any base-code ) is a very vague one and there were no details for what a base code should be like . And again , I totally get that you are mad . While your way of expressing your anger is a little bit inappropriate , you make it seem like I committed a major crime and that I should be executed for it . This is a game jam where the point is to have fun and get some feedback from other people on your game . There are no awards or prizes at the end of the jam . Just chill out, have some fun and be more positive . Have a nice weekend
Interesting gameplay! I lasted for 60 seconds! I could see this as a quick pick-up-and-play mobile game. I liked the sound effects, they fit the mood of the game. Although the graphics were unique, the black and white changing was distracting and hurt my eyes. I'm not sure if it's entirely necessary because it didn't seem to add anything to the game other than making the screen hard to see for a long time. I do think that simple shapes were the way to go though!
Really good idea. It's a little bit too difficult at the start.
You should clearly tell in the description that you upgraded a game from a previous game jam, because apart from the code, it also mean that the game design was already made, graphics too, you had plenty of feedback on your previous entry, you had plenty of time to think about what to change and upgrade, etc. I don't think it's wrong to do so (in the jam version of ld, it wouldn't be ok in compo), you just need to say it clearly in the description and tell it in the description that this was not made in 72h, because else the people think you created it from the ground up. Even if you don't take the ludum dare as a competition, a lot of people do ;) (hence the rating system ^^ )
For the game in itself, the regular switch from black to white is kinda annoying, but appart from that the game is simple but fun, I could also see it ported as a fun quick mobile game, the game is visually good and quite polished :)
Nice little game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/Kfcxq_4FEeU
Really like the simple game concept! My only suggestion is that I can't really tell when I'm playing but I assume that when the blue orbs explode they push me a fixed distance regardless of how far they are from me, so maybe if you intend to update the game make it based on their distance from me, so closer orbs will push me much further away than orbs I managed to dodge completely
Really nice game, very simple and well executed.
I enjoyed this game, but I'd like to comment on the base-code controversy. As someone who was around for the discussions within the community when the base-code rule was added, I can say with certainty that it was not intended to allow jammers to start with a game made before the jam. The rule was written to address the fact that the line between a proper game engine/library and personal boilerplate code is rather blurry. The consensus, AFAIK (and I believe endorsed by PoV himself), is that base code that could apply to a wide variety of games is okay, but the closer you get to implementing a specific game in your base code, the less okay it becomes.
For some non-anecdotal evidence: I know this game was submitted to the Jam, not the Compo, but the base-code rule is included with identical phrasing in the Compo rules as well, and I highly doubt anyone would want to allow people to start with previously-made games in the Compo. For the record, I think it's against the spirit of the Jam too, not just the Compo, to do this. While the Jam is supposed to be more relaxed than the Compo, I think the core concept is still "make a game in a weekend".
That said, @gehad, you are absolutely right that the way it is phrased in the official rules is super vague, and I can see how one could honestly interpret the rules in the way that you did. I believe you made your submission in good faith with no intent to "cheat" or break the rules. I'm going to abstain from rating this one because I don't think I can fairly compare it to other entries, but I would discourage others from intentionally lowering your score over this dispute. The solution, instead of pushing against this game, is to push for better clarity in the official rules.
@birdwards Thanks a lot for your comment . I really didn't intend on hurting other games with my submission . I only submitted this game to ludum dare because I just wanted to get some feedback on the game itself before releasing it on mobile devices and figured that getting the feedback from the ludum dare community was the best idea because the ludum dare community is a huge and supportive community
