Impressive game! Love the atmospheric music, mysterious story, and character artwork. Also, that whip animation and sound effect is on point!
Really nice game. The pixel art/animation is fantastic. Also the colour palette used is very fitting too. Music and sound was also really good. Top notch stuff for just a weekend. 👍🏻
Reminded me a little of Hyper Light Drifter, but the combat is just *way* too clumsy. It's generally better to just run from enemies and hope their suspiciously accurate shots don't blow you up while you're mid-scene transition. Big issue there, by the way: the game doesn't pause properly at scene transitions, which take *way* too long. At times it feels like about half my time spent is waiting for screens to fade in/out. Also, explosions tend to stick around after a transition, even to a cutscene.
Beautiful game ! I really love the animation and the graphics, amazing job !
Animations and graphics are great, nice conept overall. I like the whip.
The art and the ambiance were A++ on this! Very impressive for the short time span :)
Overall: The really impressive thing about this game is how much different stuff is in it: combat, two types of enemies, conversations and flashbacks with scripted sequences. Most Ludum Dare games are nowhere near this ambitious. I think the combat is pretty fun, and the graphics and sounds are excellent.
Fun: The combat's interesting and fun. Actually you could have stretched it out a bit more with more screens of combat. I found it strange that there is no penalty for losing all my health - at least if I had to return to the start of the screen (or perhaps a save point) then there would be more incentive to play with some skill! One confusing thing was that a particular quest didn't start until I talked to certain people in a certain order, which left me wondering what to do for a little while. I'm impressed that you managed to have combat with two types of enemy, plus a story with character interactions and flashbacks. (It did seem to end a little abruptly.)
Innovation: I think the combat & enemies are pretty innovative!
Theme: I don't really see it, but that doesn't matter.
Graphics: Very nice pixel art.
Audio: Very nice music and sound effects, suitable to the game.
Humor: N/A
Mood: I enjoyed the forboding mood established by the sound & art.
Impressive mood for a game set in surch a short time, very nice presentation and adequate sounds. Hitboxes might be a tad unforgiving and facing again ranged enemies due to exploration becomes tedious over time, this is great.
Seriously, the graphics and music make such a great atmosphere that compliment the gameplay so well! Really impressive story and game!
Props to whoever made the sound effects, the sounds were really effective. The gameplay is really tight, the graphics are great. Everything works really well, excellent job.
I didn't get the theme at all but I liked the game! No humor either so you might've rather opt-out :P
Very nice entry with neat graphics and sound. Controls were pretty tight and worked well. The mood and the cutscenes were very well done and added a lot to this entry. I really enjoyed it.
It could use a little extra polish (explosions appearing after screen transitions, enemies respawning in the middle of the level when you view a memory, etc) but I think a nice change would be to reduce or eliminate the invincibility frames on the enemies. You had to wait a very long tome between hits and while they were flashing they could still shoot you and you got hurt when you ran into them. I thought you couldn't kill them when I started because of the first whip cutscene and how long it took them to recover.
Great entry!
This is really cool! The wind and slow-tempo music really build an atmosphere. Combining that with opening in media res really creates a sense of mystery. Super cute capybara too.
Even though you can click to speed it up, I feel like the text crawl is way too slow. Same with the level transitions. I think you can make the combat feel more fluid too if you greatly reduce the invincibility frames of the enemies. I do like how the enemies can hit each other though.
I noticed a few errors. Sometimes the character sprite would appear behind other characters, when lower down on them on the Y axis. Kinda made it look like a frog was standing on the capybara's head.
The hitbox of the whip seems like it's smaller than the sprite. It made it difficult to judge accurate distances from enemies. Because of that, I got killed once. I then respawned in a different spot in the same level, got shoved into a corner by two skeletons, and got my butt kicked again.
Still, I'm pretty impressed with what you've made here. Not many jam games include cutscenes. Well done.
You guys are doing really nice job, but I think cutscenes and plots are bad choice for game jam, because it takes too much time to make them good. The big problem is, where is the theme?
Absolutely incredible amount of content for a jam game. Liked the art but the combat felt very unresponsive.
The audio creates great atmosphere
Very feature rich and well executed for a game jam game. Art and sound design is impeccable. I'm interested to see where this goes. :)
Very nice game. I'm stuck soon after unlocking my whip, not sure what to do next. I couldn't dodge either, perhaps it is a skill that can be unlocked later? That being said the little cutscenes and animations are really good, and the music really immerses you in the game. It's very impressive for a game jam!
Sometimes there are strange problems with the camera. The UI and dialogue box could also use a little bit of polish, but they're still not bad (to be specific, I like the crispness and text outline). Cinematic sequences have always appealed to me, and this was no exception! I do feel like it's hard to make an intriguing story with so little time, but it wasn't bad by any means. The enemies were surprisingly good at predicting my movements, and made for a pretty engaging experience; the shadow under the projectiles the enemies shot at me was a nice touch and made it possible to gauge where they would land, so kudos for adding in that minor (but very helpful) detail. Overall, I think this is a pretty good entry!
really nice game :hearts: the ambient is really nice
Nice game, with a really good ambient and impressive graphics for a jam. Nice job :)
