That's one way to make a story line...

chuckeles 2019-04-29 11:45

Well, the game looks and sound good. But I just did not have any fun with it. The monologues are too long, the questions are repeated... I like how it's made and polished, it's just not fun.

gruni 2019-04-29 11:50

@chuckeles - Thank you very much for your honest feedback. I think I may have spent too much time on the overall look and systems and in the end, I had to rush the actual content and scrap an additional layer. I should've gone for the jam, rather than the compo. But it was a fun experience nonetheless. :)

saering 2019-04-29 12:47

Well, this was... something I guess XD I just hate when there are too many texts and monologues. That's my opinion, and I read the first one, but I ended spamming the space key to rush because it was too much :( Maybe you could have had an unskippable dialogue option for those who skip too fast, that says something like "what would you do if someone didn't care about what you say ?" and then the player is like "oh okay I can't fool the game this easy..." and that'd be fun!

However I like the atmosphere, and the art is pretty easy but works very well!

lubaka 2019-04-29 12:52

There is quite a bit of potential in this game, maybe add some more color, a different set of choices as they were very similiar to each other and give the player a result to aim at. The monologues are just so long and can be boring. You have good sounds and visuals but as you said yourself, it lacks fun. If you continue this game i know you can make it better!

diesdas 2019-04-29 12:54

Oh boy, the "game" is no fun at all, but its one of the best entries I've played so far.

Theres a lot of talking in the beginning, some of that might not be necessary, and the lines change too quickly for me to read sometimes., and I'm not sure if you need to go through THAT many questions to make the point at the end. But overall, the presentation is amazing, good job, highest rating so far.

elzach 2019-04-29 13:58

Excellent sound design. While the backgroundmusic was a tad annoying the beeps and boops more than made up for it. Also decently paced text and writing.

I like this entry, but I don't particularly like to travel, so most of my decisions would be to stay at home regardless of who asks. Would've really benefited from more different activity-suggestions, maybe something akin to daily chores etc. Also I think you did your self a bit of disservice to have frontloaded so much of the narrative. Would've been more interesting to have some questions, then some dialogue, then some questions again. You put quite a bit of characterdevelopment in, which is like the hardest part -> with a bit better distribution I think you would reach far more people than having it segmented like that.

Cheers!

Looks really cool, great design concept and sound is pleasant. Good job I just think you should keep going with it!

thomas-bringer 2019-04-29 16:43

Wow, a really unique game here. Very nice message, love your interpretation of the theme (very different from chickens taking over humans haha) Oddly, I would not say this is a fun game, but its atmosphere was really interesting. Great job! :D

mrtnldm 2019-04-29 19:12

Good art and a good solid style! Unfortunately doesn't offer much for gameplay.

adam-clayden 2019-04-29 20:55

Quite unique and the game sounds and looks lovely. The AI reminds me somewhat of GLaDOS

geckoo1337 2019-04-29 21:45

This is the first game which I rate - and it's a good surprise. I liked this weird experience and I see many passion from you. The main aesthetic is pure and ethereal. Maybe the text flows to quickly. It's not always easy for those who don't speak english fluently. It could be interesting to decrease speed. I understand that you would share with us a positive attitude with a kind message. I really appreciated it. Thank you. I wish you the best too ++

pierre-cilluffo 2019-04-29 21:57

I like the game aspect and the music. But it is boring and to long.

neonjeff 2019-04-29 23:40

Really interestingly done! I was originally thinking about doing a choose your own adventure type game and wish I knew how to make the text popup stuff. I liked the aesthetic a lot. Sorry about the cancer :(

killscreen 2019-04-30 03:51

This unfun game turned out to be a beautiful piece of art. The fontography, music, and artwork were all so gorgeous to look at that I was able to tolerate the sparse mechanic. The generated questions felt like filler while I was playing, but the ending actually made me second-guess some of the choices I made along the way. Thanks for this.

mateusboga 2019-04-30 13:24

Great game! So simple but so interesting and unique.

michaelsonbritt 2019-04-30 22:46

The point at the end is well received, but (maybe I'm missing something) I didn't see any kind of gameplay or a manner in which answer affected the experience in any way? I spent the majority of the game spamming the spacebar.

The overall aesthetic is beautiful. It would be amazing the graph in the background grow and evolve with each answer, so you fell like you're creating something, and weaving a life drawn a graph.

pyrian 2019-05-01 07:20

Pretty, occasionally amusing, nice sounds, nice atmosphere. Prattles on way too long at the beginning, and the lack of feedback to your responses after all that buildup is kind of obnoxious. Found it a bit dull and tedious, I'm afraid. The presentation is great, just wish that what was being presented was more interesting.

lukas-tamayo 2019-05-01 09:26

The "game" was in my opinion perfect for what it wanted to do. It is a simple choice game that doesn't really happen in the game itself but more in your head. Makes you have some perspective. I really enjoyed the minimalism of it however I truly think the text is too fast and it's a shame for a game that wants you to get a certains pespective on things. Just having a little bit of time between each sentances could make you have a bit of time to process what you are reading and just think about it against reading some things to go to the next right away.

Funny stuff, my game actualy goes in the opposite direction, many people didn't figure it out but the game is about people treating your life as currency and trying to bet or set a value to your own life, and since they have no right to do that you butthead them in the face. And that person is kind of a "good" version of you, the one giving you advice.

But this time around your game is not about giving you a blunt advice or telling you what to do, it is just there to make you think. I didn't think about the value of my life to my shitty self but more about how the life of others has value to me. And where does that put me ?

Anyway great game, one tiny flaw, may thoughts, many thank you to take the courage to offer people an experience like this one

meskaline 2019-05-04 10:26

Interesting idea and quite unique. Good job, and I'm sure your father and uncle are proud of you. Keep on developing!

aterlamia 2019-05-04 12:07

It takes a bit long to actually get started you might want to break that up by have some actions in between but it is good you at least can speed it up with the space bar. For the rest it is very pretty and the music is calming and it is definitely one of the entries that is different.

I think it is well done.

Only thing i really thinks it needs, is a feeling that the answers you gave have an effect i understand it is to make you think of your live and how the choices influences it but (at least i) you also expect a kind of payoff in the end.

craftlord 2019-05-04 12:25

This is well done! But the 'story' text fly by a little too fast, I couldn't read the longer sentences. The questions areabit too repetitive, and it's unclear why thebar at the bottom gets subtracted a lot and when it gets subtracted a little.

Grapics, sound and mood is very good.

I would like to close with giving my condolenses on your loses!

hugonun 2019-05-04 12:38

Great first ludum dare entry. The text was a bit too fast, but I managed to read it all. Maybe do the "Click SPACE to continue" to let us read the text for the next version.

It has a deep message. I agree with the last part of the game :)

imphenzia 2019-05-16 22:35

The questions makes you think a bit about the decisions you make and makes you question a bit why you make them the way you do - that's quite a good aspect of the game I think. I realize I don't like to travel too much since I stayed at home in most choices =) For someone like me who thinks there is too much text even in comic books, I found it a bit too text heavy - but the meshed backdrop added some nice visuals. Nice work and welcome to LD, hope you return for future events!
