I love the graphics and the aniamtions !

philipprapp95 2019-05-01 21:25

Nice Graphics and really awesome soundtrack. The game though gets really boring after a short time cause it's just luck which buttons will let you win. The animations are really cool, but a bit too long. A short text at the beginning that explains what you are doing would have been nice

lakrits 2019-05-01 21:37

Come on dude, don't make the Jam version download-only and the post-Jam version HTML5, that's kind of cheating since most people will not bother to download. =P

Anyway I did download it. Think something was bugged, clicked "play" and then 5 buttons appeared and after clicking one of them nothing happens. Uploading a screenshot of the frozen screen.frozen.jpg

faiorb 2019-05-01 21:38

This has strong Eyezmaze vibes, and I like it. Though it was not clear if I was doing good or not, but what I saw with a few gameplays: There is 3 ways to make you lose all your tribe: Earthquake, Volcano and the Darkness. Each God try in some way to avoid the worst.

Congrats with your entry!

koalaura 2019-05-01 21:39

@philipprapp95 Thank you so much! It's actually not supposed to be luck, it's about figuring out the right order. However, I get that it seems very random now, since we didn't have time to put the gods' names with their pictures, otherwise players could actually learn something about hawaiian culture. Thank you for the feedback on text and animations! Most of our issues are simply because there was no more time left. In the future we would like to add more visual and auditory feedback for the player.

jofersgames 2019-05-01 21:52

This looks lovely, great job considering time limitations :)

re-markable 2019-05-01 21:55

@lakrits I know :disappointed:. I feel really bad about it, but the reason the jam entry is download only is because the game was still using the High Definition Render Pipeline instead of the Lightweight Render Pipeline which we should have used in the first place. Because of this, we had to change our Color Space to Linear, which of course (only to find out right before the deadline) doesn't support WebGL builds.

I converted the project to the Lightweight Render Pipeline and fixed our issues. I really wanted people to still be able to play the game and knowing that a lot of people skip the download only projects I decided to upload a WebGL build for this version.

I hope you can understand that it was never our intention to use this as a cheap trick! Our sincere apologies!

lakrits 2019-05-01 22:03

That's alright man. :)

ludwici 2019-05-02 10:30

Good simple design, and cool idea But, what next? I'm prayed for all gods photo_2019-05-02_13-28-16.jpg

3mpty 2019-05-02 10:30

It looks great and I like the animations but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, nor whether I'm making good or bad decisions... I tried 3 runs and lost on the 2nd sacrifice every time so I have no idea what I'm meant to do to move forward.

bojkott 2019-05-02 10:36

Graphics are very good. But there is not really any gameplay, just buttons that you need to press in the right order.

shunaky 2019-05-02 10:46

Graphics are very good, but I don't really got the point, I don't have any clue about what each god do.

My Ideas about this game: - Actually tell the player cons and pros for worshiping that god - Make the cutscenes shorter, they are cute and well done, but after the third time it get's kinda boring because you want to know if you choose the right god

But overall? It was a well made game. ^^

pusheeneiro 2019-05-02 11:08

An interesting game with great graphics, reminiscent of good old flash decision games. As for the errors in the PC version, the game did not even want to run to stop on the start screen the only thing that appeared was the mask selection menu. As for the version of WebGL, I would add skipping or accelerating the animation after the rehearsal attempt, because when we lose the next time and know what will happen when trying to play again the game begins to be boring.

nakami 2019-05-02 11:12

Nice graphics, the "cutscenes" are to long because we have to restart 3 or more time before finished it, and waiting ("so long") become a bit annoying.

thomas-bringer 2019-05-02 11:29

Amazing graphics and animations, love them :D Story/atmosphere is good too and it fits the theme nicely. Unfortunately, the actual gameplay was a bit poor, as it was just about clicking buttons randomly. But of course there was the time limit (: Still a relaxing experience, great job!

pedro-miranda 2019-05-02 11:53

Hi, tried to play the game but I couldn't. The game opens and I see the main screen. I clicked play and chose a mask but the game stops there :/

re-markable 2019-05-02 12:08

@pedro-miranda thank you for your feedback. I saw this was mentioned earlier but thought this might have been a bug that only occured for a few people. Looking at the uploaded version (1.1) we discovered that we stupidly uploaded a bugged version entirely. We have now added an older version (1.0) to the dropbox, so that the authenticity of the game in it's Jam-State can still be admired and so the game can at least be played.

re-markable 2019-05-02 12:13

@ludwici uhoh, looks like you kind of won? There is one perfect ending to achieve, but I forgot to consider the possibilty of a different scenario in which your villagers survive. I will definitely fix this within the next update. Thanks for the feedback!

dock-frankenstein 2019-05-02 13:32

Good game, but the time between every animation is so long.

raffe 2019-05-02 14:22

Heyy, this game was propably the weirdest one I've played so far xD. Nice mood and funny artstyle, audio is also fitting. I would've only wished for quicker time for the people to go between the lava thing and their starting place. Other than that it was epic, didn't manage to beat it but thats ok ;_;

blacklambert 2019-05-02 15:08

Your game looks quite nice. But I am more a gameplay guy. And the game doesn't communicate its machanics very well. It's hard to tell if the players actions do have any consequences. Also the game's speed is a little to slow for my taste. But beautiful animations!

angiemon 2019-05-02 16:07

Ohh hey, I saw your WIP on insta a few days ago, thought it was a really sweet style I'm excited I actually stumbled over it out of thousands of entries :D Really like the style, idea and music, very cute! The idea was also nice, but I'd maybe add a puzzle or something? (: Or some quick time actions would suit nicely I think, I thought there would be some when the camera switched to the volcano :D Overall cute and well done! Kepp going :)

re-markable 2019-05-02 16:57

@angiemon awesome that you recognised it! I think you're right that a puzzle mechanic or quick time event would fit quite well to add some more gameplay to the game. But I don't think we'll be spending that much time into further development, other than fixing some bugs and polishing what we already have. Maybe somewhere in the future we can implement those ideas! Thanks for the feedback!

re-markable 2019-05-02 17:01

We are aware that most players experience the animations as too slow and that they get repetitive really fast. We are currently working on adding a fast forward mechanic so players can fully explore the different outcomes without being held back by slow game progression. I will upload it as soon as it's finished!

emf31 2019-05-02 19:06

Really cool graphics!! It´s something diferent than usual. I`d miss some gameplay mechanics and some tutorial to know whats happening. Anyways cool game and good job!

jsmars 2019-05-03 13:32

Nice graphics and animations, good work! :)

evgeniya-zapolnova 2019-05-03 16:06

It looks so nice! Fast forwarding when they are jumping into fire is amazing :)

maxkyckling 2019-05-03 16:25

Would be nice to have a version of the game that is playable and not glitching out.

gassi-games 2019-05-03 16:53

Nice Idea. I really like those kind of games :)

A little bit sad, that the jam version is a little bit more buggy.

The Graphics are cool! In general there could be more to do.

But well executed idea!

edevjogos 2019-05-05 00:55

Great graphics and animations, quite fun gameplay. I didn't had read the game description before playing it, so when they started to jump on the fire i was like "whats going on kkkkkk"

xeke-death 2019-05-05 14:27

Graphics are awesome, animations are great. I couldn't make sense of the order required, I always lost after 2 days and didn't know why. I calmed the wind, and the volcano, and then lost. I assume I didn't have the population to continue, but without feedback I didn't know for sure. I tried upping my population first, still died.

koalaura 2019-05-05 18:26

@xeke-death Thank you! What went wrong is that you didn't pray to the sun god. If you don't do that, the sun will go down on the second day (and apparently our tribe is too stupid to survive the night). However, we have received a few comments about the sun god being the most unclear one, so we'll try to think of ways to make it more clear to the player. Thank you for your feedback!

fear-games 2019-05-06 14:34

Really pretty game however the gameplay was very unclear.

island-jam-2-group-3 2019-05-06 16:46

Nice graphics and music, but the gameplay was kind of boring. Nice entry though

neowedge 2019-05-06 17:40

I did it! Interesting concept and nice game ;). Graphics are cute :). Good job!

mika-la-grand 2019-05-07 16:42

Interesting idea, but I didn't notice any clues indicating to in which order I needed to sacrific to the gods. After failing there was also no message explaining why I failed: Did the volcano erupt? Where there to few people? The music was also a bit repetitive, though animations and models were great.

ivan-garcia-filho 2019-05-14 11:42

Amazing entry with neat and pleasant graphics.

The diference betweeen the female and male characters is too small and isn't affecting the silhouette, you can barely distinguish them and only when they are facing the camera while dancing around the fiery pit.

The clues about the approaching peril are not clear enough to the user, using the zoom is a good strategy, but you should show something that looks like a scalable disaster, like a small flamming boulder hiting a tree and turning the tree into ashes to show the volcano as a peril, trees being lifted from the ground and flying because of the wind storm, the fertility god is something that you don't have to show because that's something you notice everytime you sacrifice someone ...

There's also a lack of vfx and sfx to enhance the user feedback and juiceness of sacrificing someone, you could add some lava jet particles being spit upon the guys jumping into the pit, some grunts sfx before jumping and another after hiting the lava followed by some screams and steam like sfx to mimic the lava engulfing their bodies.

Ambience sfx could bring the user to inside the island, like some tree leaves shaking, the water choking on the beeach, some seaguls, monkeys screams, howling wind and reverberation to add space and volumetry...

Another soundscape close to the sacrificing pit to add a second scene sensation, by mufling the soundscape of the island, and adding something close to a boiling fluid to mimic the lava within the pit, flames crackling and maybe some ghostly whispers and screams to increase the sensation of a magical and deadly place.

vodzik 2019-05-18 18:31

Nice graphics, but I think sound effects would ads much to it. This game reminds my my game from LD43 "Marataka" :)
