I had a great time playing this! I didn't make it all the way to the end, I think you could have ditched the 9 levels in favour of shorter, more polished levels. But overall it's very fun and I loved the music.

procezz 2018-12-03 18:02

Nice game!

Overall I liked the look and the feel of the game, but I feel like you maybe should have polished the game a little more, the game feels the same even when you descend deeper down. I also think you maybe should have polished the UI (User interface) a little more, since I find it kinda lacking. Also you should display how much health, or how much damage or how much speed you've got, so you can actually see what what you are sacrificing. I also sometimes had a hard time figuring out how to actually kill the bosses (or whatever the stuff you have to fight before descending deeper) but maybe that's just me. Overall I actually think it's a good game, and great job with the music!

jeremy-ryan 2018-12-03 18:11

Solid game! The bosses were pretty varied and interesting to fight, and the sacrifice mechanic was a good interpretation of the theme.

I was having a little bit of trouble with the movement; I think some combination of attacking while switching direction makes gets you "stuck" running one direction. It usually didn't matter, but sometimes cost me a few HP when fighting a boss.

drtizzle 2018-12-03 19:34

Cool game! The thing that is standing out the most is the music, it is very good! I also like the art, it really has a distinct style. The controls are a bit floaty, but it is manageable. The levels are not that interesting, it would be nice if the structure of the levels was a bit more polished. Too bad the game had a JavaScript error at the level with the blue fists. Overall good job!

ian-kettlewell 2018-12-03 19:35

I could not figure out how to beat violence, it seemed like its health just wasn't going down?

For the bit I was able to play I really enjoyed this. The music really set the tone wonderfully and kept me driving to go forward. Honestly the music was the star of the show because it was so good. It elevated the epic feeling of this game dramatically and somehow lent more character to this version of hell.

I feel like the music made me think about the setting a bit more and made the main character seem more interesting. I really enjoyed this game and may revisit it if I learn how to beat violence!

ericm 2018-12-03 19:37

I really enjoyed the boss music and gameplay. I had a bug though on the second level where the game crashed! The error in console was "Uncaught RuntimeError: memory access out of bounds"

Still all around I enjoyed it :)

tosunami 2018-12-03 20:59

Thank you all!

@ericm @ian-kettlewell @drtizzle I updated the game now it's a bit obvious what to attack on the second boss. also javascript error is solved!

Hope you all like it!

oxrock 2018-12-03 21:06

Anyone else's character keep acting like your button was stuck down? I'd randomly be stuck jumping or going to the side for some reason despite my keys not getting stuck. Anyhow, I liked this game a lot actually. It was good how the bosses were so unique.

dwam 2018-12-03 21:35

Just like another person mentioned, I had some trouble figuring out what to do on the Violence boss. The only visual cue I noticed was the fists going red, but that seemed to just be an attack indicator.

In addition, before that, on Fraud, my character got stuck in the upper left platform and was unable to move, causing me to simply fire at the boss from the corner. I'm not sure what was the cause, but it appeared to fix itself by the end.

Still, an impressive effort. I liked the idea that instead of descending into hell, you're ascending from the bottom. I also like the idea of starting with a powerful character that eventually becomes weaker and weaker.

arcus 2018-12-03 21:40

I spent a while trying to figure out why I couldn't shoot at the floating white enemy. I think the other enemies should have health/health bars, so they don't immediately die.

tosunami 2018-12-03 21:43

@arcus Actually it's not an enemy it's your companion healing you. Sorry that I couldn't make it more obvious

potatuetata 2018-12-03 21:46

A great game in concept, but you could have polished the movement more, it feels a little bit slippery :/ but after all still a great game ^^

mattdacat 2018-12-03 21:48

Looks good! I also suffered from that issue oxrock mentioned where buttons were getting stuck down. The bosses were really interesting and the variety was also cool to see! Really creative ideas there.

angelnm 2018-12-03 21:49

@tosunami now the Violence one is more obvious what to attack, the first time I tried I was really confused with that boss. I reached the end, but I don't know how I jumped some levels. PD: It is a really good game, near to the end the sacrifices really made me change the way I was playing.

dusho 2018-12-03 22:10

cool game, nice art and amazing music. The boss fights were really cool.. the levels felt kind of same and bit repetitive, but the final fights had really cool mechanics. nice work

coleslaughter 2018-12-04 04:44

9 levels and boss battles in one game jam...Now that's damn ambitious! I like the style and tone you're going for here. I kind of wish there was a bit more visual feedback for your actions though? Like, when your attack connects, when you get hit, when you get healed, etc. It's a small change, but I feel like it'd go a long way.

Also, when I got to level 3, I felt like there was a HUGE difficulty spike. I went from having 3-5 enemies on the screen to 10+ constantly. It's a bit tedious to take them all out one by one, so I opted to try barreling through it, much to my demise. :P

Other then that though, I like what y'all have goin' on here!

rikun 2018-12-04 07:23

Hard to figure what we have to do with the boss, but overall it is really fun to play :D

eddie-li 2018-12-05 04:15

A very ambitious undertaking! I think you could've spent some more time polishing and making health more clear instead of creating more levels but it was very good overall. Well done! It was quite fun to play.

codesity 2018-12-05 16:30

like the gameplay and the graphics a lot. Good work!

fizzhog 2018-12-05 17:18

Very nice. The most polished game I've played so far; a lot to achieve in a short time. Really liked the graphics.

ish 2018-12-05 18:06

The boss battles were really clever and varied. Though a little variety in base enemy types, even just graphically would have gone a long way to making each level feel unique. Overall it was quite fun. Well done!

tosunami 2018-12-05 18:10

@potatuetata @mattdacat @angelnm @dusho @coleslaughter @rikun @eddie-li @codesity @fizzhog @ish Thanks all for good comments!

We are thiinking about polishing the game in a full playable game and publish it to market. What do you think about that? Would you play it if that would be a 2-3 hour experience?

codesity 2018-12-05 18:22

@tosunami definitely, but only when its under 5€/$. I don't want to give so much money, only for a game. I think around 5$ is a good choice (my opinion).

But the game has potential. So I hope you bring it on the market ^^

zetorama 2018-12-06 00:23

Very creative, especially boss fightings are the most fun! Neat graphics and sound makes the mood. Good luck!

phanxgames 2018-12-06 06:07

Really had a lot of fun playing this. Something so satisfying about the sound your arrow attack makes, I actually liked the audio design over all so much. Very impressed with so many boss fights in just one weekend. Great job!

grafexy 2018-12-06 12:19

Like the game, gameplay is really nice, had just enough time to figure out how to deal with bosses. Gj overall.

zsolt 2018-12-06 17:17

Hard to figure out what to do with the bosses , but overall it is a very nice game!

jlv 2018-12-07 01:49

Neat take on the theme. I particularly enjoyed the creativity displayed during bosses, which managed to create a true "adventure" feel. That's no small feat for a jam game !

Pros : - Boss fights, mechanically and aesthetically brilliant - The soundtrack is awesome - The companion mechanic is excellent idea that adds a lot to the sacrifice decisions

Cons : - The in-between phases before bosses do not feel that necessary, compared to the sheer excellence of the bosses. - Needs more "juice" and visual feedback (bigger arrow, hit animations on the bosses, ...)

Overall, great job !

vimlark 2018-12-07 10:35

Great work. I had a similar theme of sacking abilities. I ran into a bug where I beat the skull bot then made my sacrifice. When the next level loaded I instantly got the sacrifice pop up and then again on the next one. I think I sacrificed speed to much because then I couldn't move. Played again not only picking speed and it worked fine. One suggestion would be visual indicators when you get hit and hit enemies. It was hard to tell when I was getting hit sometimes and on some bosses (particularly) the fists, it was tricky to figure out how and where I was hitting it. With that slight nit pick aside It was fun and I had a good time playing through. Well done.

lathspell 2018-12-07 19:23

It was really funny, the ambientation of the levels and the bosses were really creative. Nice job :)

andrazg 2018-12-07 20:57

Visually not that appealing. But gameplay is nice. I would just make more obvious where my boudaries are.

omiya-games 2018-12-08 03:33

I liked the harmony of the visuals and the music. There's a consistency in the aesthetic that, while barebones, tells enough to get the story. It's also very unusual depiction of hell.

I do confess the controls felt like they needed a little work. For WebGL build, it didn't seem like holding done the mouse button auto-fired. Holding down jump shouldn't cause you to jump again when landing on a platform. I also thought that there was not enough visual and auditory feedback on successfully hitting a boss correctly. I highly recommend checking out [Make it Juicy](https://omiyagames.itch.io/make-it-juicy), Juice it or Lose it (search on Youtube), and other presentations on how to add these sort of polish.

tosunami 2018-12-09 06:56

Thank you all for your kind comments! @omiya-games thanks for the advice, I find it pretty helpful.

xphere 2018-12-09 21:41

Nice take on the theme, although levels were a bit smaller and the health sacrifice is always the best pick. I think I skipped some levels because it appeared the sacrifice screen again when starting. Good job overall.

balgorode 2018-12-21 17:46

Cool game, the graphics could have used some work though :P That aside the levels were all the same and were too repetitive but the bosses were really fun. Overall good job!

honey 2018-12-22 19:45

Nice one. Graphics sure need some polishing, but the gameplay is pretty huge for a jam game. Nice work on bossfights. Still I didn't always get what part of the boss to shoot and also the shooting speed already felt sacrificed from the beginning :( Still cool foundation, with some further work and polishing, it could work pretty great! :)
