Nice game, but there could be more content.

kiv 2018-12-03 15:30

It's really fun to run away from crazy birds with a bird body in your hands trying to drop it in the hole using a touchpad, thank you

sodaro 2018-12-03 15:30

Neat game! One thing I was missing was feedback for when you sacrifice the birds, I wasn't sure whether to throw them down the hole in the middle or off the cliff, or if both worked as I didn't see anything change / hear anything.

juutis 2018-12-03 15:45

Thanks for the comments guys!

@sodaro: an excellent point. You need to sacrifice the birds in the middle. :)

sodaro 2018-12-03 16:07

@juutis ah hahah! With that in mind, me running around killing birds and throwing them off the cliff seems all the more hilarious in hindsight :bird:

fernando-tonon-de-rossi 2018-12-03 18:34

I could spend some hours killing those crows! pretty funny! I liked most the art style and the movements. I think that if the crows could push the player to the fire it would be a nice challenge.

andrea 2018-12-03 18:56

Same as @sodaro I'm afraid, but I managed to get there xD The birds and the pit are really well made, otherwise the game itself is a little too simple for my taste :p Good job nonetheless!

bradur 2018-12-03 18:57

*The birds make me angry. It is right they should be sacrificed.*

Hard game! Controls are tight and the graphics work well with the sfx. Could have used some indication / sound when a sacrifice was successful. Many of my sacrificial birds just ended up on the other side of the pit 😂.

All the animations and 3D models are top notch!

drtizzle 2018-12-04 18:51

Wow, this looks nice! Great graphics, and smooth animations/movements! The gameplay was weirdly addicting too, it felt really satisfying to kill those birds. I don't really have to say anything negative about this, but maybe next time add diversity in birds, or add some powerups? Very nicely done!

jayprog 2018-12-04 19:05

Great looking game, especially in 3D. Too hard for me to beat, I think increasing the reward for keeping your bar filled would have kept me playing longer since it was quite fun. Sound mechanics, tight controls, good job!

rustymonky 2018-12-05 17:50

This game is much harder than I thought! I felt challenged having to bob and weave through flocks of crows while I was trying to pick up their dead brethren and deliver them to the gods. Really like the premise, use of the theme, and aesthetics here. A suggestion for building on this would be to add a clearer indicator for your mojo loss per hit and god appeasement per sacrifice (or more emphasis on the animation as the values change), and keeping a tally on how many birds you manage to sacrifice before the end.

Good job with this!

antt5053 2018-12-05 19:44

The bird pushed me in a spot where the only way to move was to get hit by another bird but the game is nice

arthur-baars 2018-12-05 21:36

The game looks really nice and the core gameplay fits the theme really well! I jumped a couple of times when the rift would spout fire :p. If the game were to have some more features that add to the core gameplay, it would make replaying the game more fun. Anyway good job !!

norb 2018-12-05 22:36

The game really gains some speed after a while when there are a lot of birds! Good job

kantieno 2018-12-06 03:22

I really enjoyed the style of this game! The camera and atmosphere worked very nicely! I enjoyed the art and the backing music. The controls were a little lacking and didn't feel very comfortable, it was also a little annoying dropping objects when hit by crows since it gets to a point where you are getting swarmed every second so you can't really do anything.

Beyond that I think it would be nice to have a counter or some kind of score to see on game over. Overall I really enjoyed the feel of the game, good job!

gwinnell 2018-12-06 13:36

Nice camera work! Game fits the theme well and is fun to play. Just wish I could _kill two birds with one stone_ / feed two birds with one scone! :bird:

hugonun 2018-12-06 20:26

Nice little game, would be nice if something would happen when the gods are angry and it's game over.

agwblack 2018-12-06 20:51

Looks cool, really like the art style and camera work.

I found the controls too difficult. It was too hard to hit birds, felt like I was doing it by accident. Then it was really hard to throw the birds in the pit. It gets increasingly frustrating as there appear more and more birds. I get that that was probably the idea, but it didn't feel that fun. On top of that it didn't really feel like I was working towards anything, but was rather just trying to stave off inevitable defeat. It would be nice if it felt like there was some way to win.

Good job on the visuals though :-)

shiqichuan 2018-12-07 02:25

Nice game!

juutis 2018-12-07 06:45

Thank you so much for the feedback, guys! I'm glad so many of you enjoyed my game. :)

@agwblack: you can beat the game if you manage to empty the Gods' wrath (right) bar completely. That, however, is no easy feat. Unless you fill your Mojo (left) bar, you'll only delay the inevitable. You'll need to not get hit by the birds and erupting stones to do that.

Also, aligning the cursor with the birds' shadows is a good way to hit them.

The difficulty of the game is intentional. I tried to compensate for the lack of real content with it, but balancing is tricky - especially in jam games - and I think it ended up a bit too challenging.

I'm actually working to release a post-jam version with refined balance and mechanics, fixes to common problems (like lack of feedback, difficulty in throwing the birds in the pit and getting swarmed eventually) and some additional content. So I really appreciate the critique and you guys telling me about the issues you are having with the game.

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/345723905

juutis 2018-12-07 08:39

@saoi-games: thanks for playing and for the valuable feedback! I totally agree that the core mechanics of the game should be explained/indicated more clearly in the game itself. This is especially true in a game jam where the players aren't likely to spend that much time figuring out what to do.

pompi-pompi 2018-12-13 20:08

The hectiness of it is really fun. But I found it hard to hit with the arching through, wasn't sure how to hit. A more straight through might be better?

linky439 2018-12-15 15:50

Interesting game! :) I thought it'd be an easy task... Little did I know those damn birds would soon be flying all over the damn place, even preventing me from throwing their dead friends in the volcano!

A funny game overall, even if I thought at first the mojo bar was glitched but I was just always hit by the birds x) Like others said, your game might need a bit more emphasis on how much we calm the Gods when we throw a bird, because I wasn't sure my sacrifices were working in the begining.

Otherwise, good audio (but the eruption sound might be a bit too loud), good graphics. Congrats!

wisstopher 2018-12-18 22:26

Great, the art was amazing and was some of the best yet. I really liked the change in perspective the closer you got to the hole, it made feel like the focal point. Player feedback would be helpful. Altogether a good game :volcano:
