Nice game reminds me of Hole.IO Really cool concept the only bug I ran into was that tornado didn't always stay on the ground

acuriosity 2018-12-05 03:47

The game lives up to the screenshots... an awesome idea, graphicaly pleasing, playably executed, a few drawbacks..

So there is a bug with the camera that gave me a rough start. The first play through for some reason the camera locked into a height only a little ways off the ground, so it was very difficult to see what was happening as the camera clipped through all of the destructible objects... The same thing happened again to me a little ways through my 2nd or 3rd playthrough... upon trying to return to the main menu and then restarting for some reason my tornado never spawned in and I had to exit the game and relaunch..

It took a bit for me to figure out my tornadoes power also dictated the speed i could move... So my tornado was moving more slowly, and even though my power meter still had what appeared to be plenty left, i could no longer get to the water source that was relatively close to me...

Besides the drawbacks there was something drawing me back to the game, and I am pretty glad it did... On my 4th playthrough i made it to a level 4 tornado, and it was nearly impossible at this point not to hit people, so much screaming, so much destruction... It was kind of beautiful... But also at this point I was not sure how much of the map I had left to destroy... It seems an object can only be destroyed once, but some of the houses land pretty normal looking and don't look destroyed so its easy to get fooled into going to an area where you cant really do anything...

I think with some camera work, and a bit more development there is something here.... As for the theme ehhh... it didn't really feel super sacrify... It was fun, i am going to go give it a few more playthroughs.... Good Job!

I don't see any Windows version on your itch.io page? It say's there is one on your LD submission, but I don't see it on the itch.io

legavroche 2018-12-05 04:01

Would love to play it, but am waiting for the windows build. Please let me know when it's up

northerndevguy 2018-12-05 04:07

Updated the itch.io page, for some reason Windows file was set to hidden

northerndevguy 2018-12-05 04:08

@acuriosity @groverthegrovekeeper @legavroche I have updated the link on itch. Please try now and I will also play your games!

There is something very satisfying about playing as a tornado. I enjoyed that quite a bit, and the sound effects and concept definitely score high on humor for me. I felt that the theme wasn't the best though, as while you did have a risk reward mechanic, I don't know about it really being a sacrifice. I don't really understand the logic behind humans adding time and taking away points, it just feels a little arbitrary. (I think you just wanted to make a tornado game, which I totally get). The sound track got pretty repetitive as it seemed like it was just a few second loop. Despite those nitpicks, though, I really enjoyed playing it, so props for that!

legavroche 2018-12-05 04:33

Great gameplay! It was really relaxing to just cause that much mayhem. Loved to see that everything was affect-able by the tornado. I enjoyed the upgrades, but at some point it was too big that all the obstacles flying around made it tough to see where I was going. This was tough near the end, because I was getting much less points so I tried to prioritize increasing my score while avoiding humans, but the lack of visibility made that difficult. These are just small issues that I disliked, but I guess one can argue that that's what makes this a compelling tornado game haha :) Great job!

kddressel 2018-12-05 04:37

i had fun with this. i'd love to see it expanded into a full game. i really wanted to zoom out and see things spin in my tornado more but i also didn't last super long haha

zombie-virals 2018-12-05 05:26

Good times!! Should make a sequel and call it "Mobile Home Mayhem!!" lol Love it!!

aj-jones 2018-12-05 05:51

Really liked the concept, reminded me of katamari! I ran into a bug though, the tornado ended early, and then the game closed shortly after.

drtizzle 2018-12-05 06:35

Wow, impressive looking game! My little laptop had a pretty hard time running it, but it was manageable .

The visuals are great, and so is the feel if the game. It feels VERY satisfying seeing all those houses flying in the air and then crashing down. But I had a hard time seeing what was going on. Moving my mouse left and right seemed to zoom in and out + rotate the camera, which was very disorienting. Maybe just rotate the camera with Q and E, and zoom out the camera the bigger the tornado gets?

Also killing people didn't really felt like a sacrifice, I didn't feel like it was a choice.

But the concept is really nice, and the presentation is top notch!! Very nice!

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/344842762

I ran into a bug that I don't know if it was captured on the video very well, but as the tornado, I started flying up into the sky then rotated under the ground and rolled around the space. When I was flying/rolling, I wasn't sucking up houses, but I did seem to be getting people and water. I don't know if the camera went wayward or the Tornado itself, but I wanted to report the bug in case it was not as intended.

A some sort of win condition would be nice to see in this game. I got ~2600 points with almost no buildings left on the map, and 1:30 of time left. With no options what to do, but just messing around with people and derbis, ended up with 1750 points. :smirk: So I'd to prefer to 'win' somehow at 2600.

Overall it was fun to play! Here are my attempts:

arcus 2018-12-08 15:18

I got 2000 points!

maytch 2018-12-08 15:23

Good job! Did you make it alone? Impressive for the time constraint.

belonzik 2018-12-08 15:23

Although the idea is and execution are very good, it's the clunkyness of the controls that really set it back. The camera movements feels strange and picking things up with the tornado seems strange too. Graphics are very simple but they work well. The music does fit, however it gets repetitive after a whole. Other than that, the game is pretty fun and it's also original. Good job.

kornel-meszaros 2018-12-08 15:36

Funny game! :D

I'm wondering how did you manage to create a game with this many dynamic 3D assets. Nice physics!

lazertrax 2018-12-08 15:52

Nice game :D I've played it a few times and I really enjoyed the concept and the whole premise of the game. I have a few suggestions though. First I feel like the tornado starts really slow and should be a tiny bit faster. Also maybe have a combo multiplier system to encourage chaining multiples of the same type of building which would then increase speed or something. I think it would add alot to the fun factor of the game. Overall the graphics are great and I really enjoyed playing it. Well Done

northerndevguy 2018-12-08 15:58

@lazertrax that's a good suggestion, thanks for the feedback!

kroute 2018-12-08 16:15

A super fun game. I almost made it to the level five tornado, but these stupid humans kept getting in my way! I really liked the fact that I could destroy everything, because it feels good and the quality sound design increases the pleasure.

Camera management could be improved because the larger the tornado gets, the more it prevents you from seeing what you're doing. Maybe by adding the possibility to zoom in/out with the mouse wheel.

Anyway, well done, great game.

renegadepunisher 2018-12-08 16:24

I enjoyed playing this. Feedback wise i'd say the camera could be a little awkward, and the repeating music wasn't fun. If you could get the people running away so you had to chase them down I think it would add to the experience. On the whole though its a great little game.

shiqichuan 2018-12-08 16:34

Really fun! Especially when I turned a house upsidedown.

pierre-f 2018-12-08 17:01

Nice ! I really liked the graphics the tornado is nicely done, the music was pretty annoying but it's okay. As for the gameplay, it's quite good, I got a score of 2024 ! :)

ruba 2018-12-08 19:05

Fun game! Agree with others that music was a bit annoying :). Gameplay is great - I enjoyed playing it. There would be a nice if tornado had some smoke alpha blended texture assigned.

krunoslav 2018-12-08 21:01

Fun game. I liked the music, moi. It is cool to destroy all the city! Avoid the people is vert hard, I just destroy all that I could and I made 2.300 points.

derek-volker 2018-12-10 11:04

That was probably the most resource consuming game i played in this jam. Not that my pc is something when comes to graphics processing, but whatever.

Really liked the concept and graphics, but, while the music fits, i found it a bit too repetitive.

However, the aspect of mass destruction is really nice, and its kinda ironic to portrait it in such a comic way. Excellent job.

dmitry-kaidash 2018-12-12 08:08

Amazing graphics!

acaral 2018-12-12 10:07

Somewhere between Katamari damacy and Rednex Cotton eye Joe. Lol it was so fun. You did a cool entry.

preside 2018-12-12 16:37

Really fun game! Love the sense of power when you reach level 4.
