The movement is quite slow and hard to control, it generally doiesn't have a very nice feeling and could be much better with a few tweaks.
could be better. keep the project and work on it after.
I know about the tweaks needed... Thank you very much for your time :D
@generalvivi The link its from itch.io and i have tried myself to download it and it works fine...
Reminds me of Marble Blast. Would be even better if you could rotate the camera also! Keep it up.
@rixium Yeah thought about the camera but i wasn't too keen with camera controls that why i didn't include it... But yeah thanks for your time and i will try harder next ludum dare compo :D
I think it's good for a first attempt at Ludum Dare :) The idea has potential. The physics of the ball make it very hard to turn or change direction at high speed. This may be realistic as far as physics go, but for games it's often good to bend the rules to create fun gameplay. So I would allow faster direction changes, maybe. It does add a challenge of planning ahead how fast to go, and how to avoid falling in the water. So I dunno, maybe it's good like this too, depends on the feel you are going for. Music was very pleasant. Good luck with your next projects!
Where's the link to the source code? :scream:
@natalycreates Thank you very much for you time playing and commenting on the game :D I will consider everything on my next project :D
@masamunedragon I didn't consider it will be necessary since the code its very basic but here you go :D https://github.com/Billeclipse/CoinCase
Can you share sources?
Nice job for your first compo game already. In my opinion, maybe more coins get more speed could be worse, like its to fast after gain too many coins, then its more likely running into river. Any way good luck with your next jam!
The music is really good, the graphics look nice but the movement is VERY sluggish from the very beginning and dont seem to get worse, I just feel like i have less control.
The controls are alright but could be more responsive. there's really no goal/progression, but for a 5 hour project it's pretty good.
@sanyingli thats a really nice idea i haven't thought it that way...
@cklidfy Yeah like some others said the controls are a little be slow already cause of the physics needed more tweaking so it could be more fun than realistic...
@Anonymous Yeah i know like i said i wanted to put a timer so it would be more challenging but i didn't had time to test it so it would be fair... I will try harder next time :D
The game could've benefited with a more interesting sense of progression than just a number going up, but congrats on ur first ludum dare submission! :)
@mrthee Thanks a lot for your time and your feedback :D
I actually liked this a lot. The intro menu and options screen were well designed and they worked as intended. When I started playing it was just about trying it out then I started to see if I could get lower speeds and more coins until oops.. fell in the water because I couldn't slow down. The music was very relaxing as well. Overall, even if it was just a test this is a really good little game.
@4kbshort Thank you very much for you time and feedback :D I am really happy that you liked it :D
The game idea is okay, but nothing super special. I would have liked some kind of end goal for this game. The graphics is fine, and the music is pretty good. This is overall a fine first LD game. Hope to see more from you in the future. And welcome to LD.
@jk5000 Thank you for your feedback :D The goal of the game is to get to 100 disposed coins which yeah its a little bit too much (spoiler: you just gonna get a "you won" message :P) and also it doesn't have a timer to make at least a little bit challenging i know but i will keep that in my mind going to the next project/ludum dare :D
A minimalist gameplay ruleset to a great fun.
Perhaps, you can add some "bonus" counter when the player place a great quantity of coins in the disposer ; your game would make you want to take more "risks".
:-)
Well done on completing your first Ludum Dare game :).
Need additional features in gameplay. For me it is too minimalistic:)
@bismark, @sirikan, @w0jciechz Thank you for your time and feedback :D
I have to disagree with another commenter, personally I found the controls quite interesting because they felt quite real, since you are a big rock and not a light ball. But maybe making them more snappy would make it a little more interesting, and maybe adding more challenge to the gameplay, which as it is right now is quite simple. Good work!
@fullmontis Thank you a lot for your time and feedback :D
I think this has some really nice potential, especially for a game made in 5 hours.
Though I have to agree with the other commenter: the game's pretty boring. I never really felt challenged. I certainly like what you did with the theme, but I found the mechanic really only got noticeable after 10 or more coins, and then it just felt like trying to roll a boulder around (I mean, that's the point, but it certainly felt sluggish and unresponsive). The music was interesting (though the title screen and main theme couldn't be more musically different), but I noticed a distinct lack of sound effects.
My main suggestion would be to change the flat playing field into a obstacle course, to provide some much-needed tension while rolling around.
@niterich Thank you for your time and feedback :D
I liked it, inherent to the theme and polished. If the level changed getting more difficult to move around, it would have been even nicer.
Good job.
@wolfo Thank you very much for your time and feedback :D
Nice job staying on the theme. fun!
@witylernn Thank you :D
Obviously there is a lack of gameplay / things to do because picking up coins and rolling around just doesn't cut it that much anymore... But I actually liked the idea of the ball getting slower. With more things to do where you could possibly lose some HP (rolling down a parcour track or a hill) would increase replay value by tons. Also why is the camera not rotatable? I think you could have had a nice rotation going there.. Oh and also, the way your rock moves is pretty satisfying IMO.
Keep it up!
@nizlow Thank you for your time and feedback :D I know there is a big lack of gameplay cause i didn't dedicate the time needed at least for my first alone game... I wanted to add at least a timer or something to make it more challenging but i didn't have enough time to test the game after the changes. Also like i said i avoid to include rotation on the camera cause i was afraid of not making it enough smooth and it might had made some dizzy reactions as a result :P
A good game for the first attemp. The best way to add smoothness to camera otation is to have intended rotatiopn and gradually lerp towards it. Or just use small multiplyers on Rotate command.
Another option would be to go for a top-down view so camera rotation is not required at all. But in current setup it doesn't feel good whn you need to roll backwards without being able to tell how far is the sea...
I really liked your textures.
@hilvon Thank you for your time and feedback :D I will keep all you said in mind for my next project :D
Great job for a first entry. Decent textures and you included music too. I'm not sure why a boulder would need to collect coins, but it was fun to roll around and listen to the tunes. This could almost be a zen-garden game!
@fdr Thank you for your time and feedback :D I know a boulder collecting coins its weird, but thats how far my skills can go :P
Rolling around as a ball feels satisfying
@tschery Thank you for your time and feedback :D
i fell off. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice ball. felt like rolling rock. then i got slooooow movement anxiety.
@commanderstitch lol the first think that someone did when i gave him this game was to run into "water" so yeah i get what you saying :P Thanks for your time and feedback :D
Need to be polished to be more fun!
Still nice job for the first time try. Keep practicing :)
@cliff-lee-cl Thank you for your time and feedback :D I will :P
Nice game, the music is really spot-on ! The only problems are the sound effects, and the dynamism of the gameplay. I'm sure a final version will be great ;)
@lazard Thank you for your time and feedback :D I am not sure if i will continue this game post-ludum but i might since i see a lot of people liking the idea of it :D Right now though i can't cause i am working on a unity project for my school :P
Looks nice for a first game!
@ebot102 Thank you for your time and feedback :D
Congratulations with your first game!
@zinkler Thank you very much for your time and feedback :D
Hehe, this was kind of fun, learning how to roll the stone correctly. I would have liked some friction personally, (actually a vertical velocity & horizontal velocity meter would have helped visualize the mechanics of rolling from a player's perspective (I kept over-correcting)), but all-in-all, even if it was slow, pretty solid rolling physics, I must say. ;)
@pvtroswold Thank you for your time and feedback :D I will keep all you said in mind for my next project :D
Would be cool with some level variety, controlling the ball was actually pretty fun, might be nice if the ball didn't feel quite so heavy and was a little more responsive.
@wooowooo Thank you very much for your time and feedback :D I might continue developing it after ludum-dare compo and i would definitely keep in mind what you said for it :D
@billieclipse
I really liked the music and there is some potential to add more to the game post compo: Some bumps (if you are heavy you can't get up those hills). A camera that follows you, powerups that make you quicker for some time... Would be a fun little adventure I guess? :)
@sirpumpyjam Thank you for your time and feedback :D I will keep all you said in mind :D
