I forgot to mention that the game was made with Unity3D, the GIMP, Blender2.5, Notepad++ and my trusty Kodak camera. Also, like a fool I zipped it in the 7z format, meaning I've limited my potential audience quite a bit.
I doubt that they will allow me to submit another file. I would post the corrected link zip here, but fear breaking some rules. Will try and ask about what I can do.

papercutdoom 2011-05-02 02:45

You can still edit your entry you know. You have 15 minutes left :D

mpc174 2011-05-02 02:47

Hi PaperCutDoom. Did you know that you are a golden god? I submitted a .zip link. Thank you so, so much!

little-angel 2011-05-02 03:04

Even unofficially, I'd love to see a link to a web-player or MacOS build if you are doing stand-alones. I was watching bits of this develop and I'd really like a chance to see what you've done!

mpc174 2011-05-02 03:31

NOTE: The game is currently UNWINNABLE! There is something blocking the "gate" to the city, meaning that if you trek all the way up there, you will have nothing to do but jump off to your untimely demise! Or perhaps it is a sort of social commentary on being an outsider in the modern world, yeah that's it, not a bug.

Little Angel: Thanks! I recognize your handle from the Unity forums by the way. I'm a longtime lurker. I should make my first post a link to a webplayer build... one that you can win!

winterblood 2011-05-02 05:00

Like the concept (similar idea to my entry - first-person platforming) and the art, but I found it really fiddly trying to jump onto even the first few ledges. Felt like the jump height was too small, or I may have been catching on things due to struggling with the controls (I invert Y :)

jonbro 2011-05-02 10:59

I would like to double the request to a webplayer build.

mjb67 2011-05-02 12:08

Good effort - the atmosphere is nice. I kept falling through platforms though :-(

mpc174 2011-05-02 12:19

mjb67 - Thanks! too bad about the platforms. Was that a bug or you slipping through the cracks?
jonbro - I've added a webplayer build.
Winterblood - Thanks! And yes, it needs a lot of polish (didn't think about the invert-y crowd). I will play yours tomorrow and give you some feedback.

orangy-tang 2011-05-02 21:40

Doesn't really work here I'm afraid. The mouse sensitivity is far too high so without a way to adjust it it's far too twitchy. I tried for a bit, then fell off and the restart screen corrupted the graphics and it wouldn't let me continue. :(

Nice style and looks like it has potential though.

getpixel 2011-05-02 23:26

You died, or will after several hours of falling.. haha! I couldn't really play it though.. running it through Wine it sort of glitched up.

stephenm3 2011-05-03 04:45

It's crazy how original this idea is! Major props! The idea of a world that is an infinite vertical wall is incredible, and already spurs my imagination (and probably the vertigo of people with a fear of heights).

I want to play a full fledged title set in a similar world. Also read some fiction set there! And... and... and...

stephenm3 2011-05-03 04:54

Holy wow that is a neat concept.

crackerblocks 2011-05-03 05:41

Reminds me of that time I climbed Mount Hua Shan. While holding a new born baby.

Imalter 2011-05-03 11:13

You've made it to your home city!

little-angel 2011-05-03 14:17

YAY WEB PLAYER BUILD!

mpc174 2011-05-03 14:52

@Phen - I intend to write that fiction. The gameplay needs some major changes for a real release: grappling hooks, jump pads, parachutes, etc. Grad school ends next week, I'll have plenty of time to work on it!
@crackerblocks - lol :)
@Imalter - Wait, you won? How'd you get past those "gate" bricks?
@Little Angel - I'd like to hear what you think!

spooner 2011-05-03 14:59

I found it a bit difficult, without a cross-hair, to see what I was pointing at. I know it highlighted, but when I was pointing at a large object, I lost track of where I was looking exactly. Otherwise, a very novel idea!

gobo 2011-05-04 02:25

Strange little game. Quite unique and innovative.

milo 2011-05-04 02:45

This is just awesome. I wish it had quality settings, though.

razzberries 2011-05-05 09:42

Mouse sensitivity was way too high. Otherwise I quite enjoyed it.

the-jack 2011-05-06 22:38

Very nice. Visually stunning, would be awesome with sounds and a final objective.

Good work!

elbowroom 2011-05-08 16:51

It felt like a part from a greater game. It was interesting and I liked the graphics in the pictures you posted.
I think it is inspirational

venzon 2011-05-08 22:35

The platforming physics didn't feel right to me. I had a lot of trouble getting up even small steps. Cool idea, though.

icenine 2011-05-09 01:03

Cool concept and nice graphics, this could be an awesome game with better controls and level design.

matthias_zarzecki 2011-05-09 08:24

The idea is fun, although there is still some balacning to be done. What bugged me was the cloak hanging right behind you, with the magical macguffing hidden behind it. I didn't occur to me to look 1. behind myself, 2. behing the cloak, so I just ran around trying to not die. Only later I spotted that thing.

And this really needs "more crap". As in, background. Objects (clouds?) in the horizon. Maybe a terrain. Some empty spaces in the wall(?). have some broken wall-pieces lying around, thsi creates obstacles and atmosphere.

Nicely done :-)

cirrial 2011-05-09 11:31

I love this idea. Really love it. I found the item-giver pretty funny. I'm really looking forward to the polished version. Such a shame it's unwinnable as it is!

mwest 2011-05-15 15:17

Well done on finishing an entry with an interesting concept!

The controls felt a bit fiddly for me though: mouse sensitivity too high and jumps too small, making it a pain to control rather than fun...

increpare 2011-05-22 01:59

mouse sensitivity was really high for me, and wall was hella-tall.

Good work! :)

blodyavenger 2011-05-22 20:27

I loved the game! It simply kept me playing but the movement could be more smooth or maybe faster falling / jumping - that would make the gameplay faster and make the place for failure larger :)
PS: Especialy I liked that "person" model at the start - it was kinda freaky :P

Well done on LD20!

jonbro 2011-05-23 14:51

pretty good idea! I found it a bit hard to play though. I didn't have the patience for the bricks to slide all the way out and died off of that a few times.
