| Apr 15 09:28:17 | No one makes the Grand Warlock wait! | ♥ 3 | Managed to achieve my lifelong dream and burn Starbucks down! Anyway, awesome game! I loved the graphics here, both in the cutscenes and in-game. The animations & VFX especially were great! It was also really fun capturing demons and throwing them at their friends. The music was really nice too! The target demon thing was a tad confusing - I kept submitting the wrong demons, until I realized that I probably just had to reach the final level (6) - but this was probably intentional. Also, I managed to clip through the ground once and lost :( Other than that, great entry! | |
| Apr 15 09:36:13 | 7m 56s | The Wheel | ♥ 1 | Not so much a game as just one mechanic with dialogue. The wheel going to the opposite side when it rolled off screen was a nice touch. ~~Unfortunately, this comment has been written already~~ |
| Apr 15 10:09:10 | 32m 57s | Summoners Chess | ♥ 1 | The web version didn't work for me either, but the Windows one did! It was a bit confusing at first, but pretty fun once I got it - managed to reach floor 12! Things got pretty hectic when fighting 5 enemy wizards at once :) One thing I didn't understand though were the air & earth elements - they didn't seem to do anything? I ended up just always spamming water to good results. Also, invalid moves skipping your turn without any feedback felt a bit harsh, but it mostly happened when I was still figuring things out, so it wasn't too bad. Overall, great entry! |
| Apr 15 10:21:44 | 12m 34s | Summoning by a lovely wizzard | ♥ 1 | I have been summoned to comment on this game, so here I am! I liked the meta story, it was nice. I refused to help and got a game over on my first try :) I don't have a lot to say about this one, it was a nice little story and it worked as such. Good entry! |
| Apr 15 10:58:18 | 36m 34s | Hardcore High School | ♥ 2 | It's always fun seeing what sort of completely unhinged concept will you come up with for every Ludum Dare. And this one was... certainly something :) Finally a game which accurately portraits me as an eldritch abomination. And that double-twist ending was certainly twisty! The gameplay was a bit rough, though. It was a bit confusing having two separate people with the same portrait - at first I thought the flavour text & trouble level were just randomized, like your previous game - and I only got it in the second level. Fortunately, it was also pretty easy, so I never got stuck or anything, just confused. It was clearly not the focus here anyway. Other than that, the graphics, story and VA were hilarious, and I really enjoyed them! Great entry! |
| Apr 15 11:17:56 | 19m 38s | Mjolnir | ♥ 1 | Very nice game! I loved your take on the theme, and the gameplay was really fun. The voiceovers were great too! The combo multiplier capping at 12 was a tad disappointing - as it was pretty easy to reach that number with the amount of enemies on the map - but otherwise, great entry! Here's my highscore: Highscore.png |
| Apr 15 14:27:53 | 3h 09m | Elementary Evocation | ♥ 1 | Managed to spook the king in wave 3! Anyway, great game! I seriously loved all the graphics here - especially the use of tombstones as buttons! The gameplay was pretty cool too, if not very balanced (like pretty much all compo games...) - the max mana upgrade felt broken, and water spirits were so good that I managed to deal most of the damage to the king on wave 1 with 2 of them. Nevertheless, it was still very fun! One final nitpick - the tutorial auto-progressing made it a bit hard to follow, especially with one page repeating itself. Other than that, awesome entry! |
| Apr 15 16:14:41 | 1h 46m | Demon Well | ♥ 1 | Decided to try properly speedrunning one of your games, with a video and commentary and all. Of course, it just had to be the story-based one with unskippable cutscenes. Oh well, it was still very fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyy5Yj2aLGk Anyway, I loved the VA & cutscenes here, they were amazing! |
| Apr 15 16:41:32 | 26m 51s | Summoned to Another World to Fight the Demon Lord! | ♥ 1 | Managed to defeat the demon lord! This was tough. Anyway, great entry! I loved JRPGs, so the gameplay felt great for me - difficult, but predictable enough that I managed to find a winning strategy after a few tries (buffing the mage & healer plus the knight's defense ASAP, guarding the healer and spamming fireballs with the mage). I also liked how the demon lord is basically a giant frog :) The music was a bit repetitive and the UI took some getting used to, but otherwise, very nice entry! |
| Apr 15 17:21:36 | 40m 04s | Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery | ♥ 1 | What a ride! This was a great murder mystery - I wanted to accuse so many different ~~people~~ ghosts at various points of the game... You were right about needing a pen and paper for it :) My one nitpick is that early on, I wanted to try accusing someone to see what happens, and got a game over, forcing me to restart from the beginning :( Maybe a warning that this would happen would help? Other than that, awesome entry! |
| Apr 15 17:41:37 | 20m 01s | The Colossopteron | ♥ 1 | How could you leave me with such a cliffhanger?! Anyway, great game! I loved the concept - I never watched Attack On Titan, but my headcannon is that this is literally it now :) Climbing the ant was challenging, but it was really cool how you use its appendages for platforming. I also liked the graphics and writing, and the music was great! My one nitpick would be that going under the ant is a bit annoying, as its back leg moves pretty slowly, and there is a time in the animation where you can *almost* go through but can't - maybe adding the ability to crawl would help? But again, this is very minor. Otherwise, awesome entry! |
| Apr 15 17:56:02 | 14m 25s | Salmoning | ♥ 2 | Hey, another summing game! This one was pretty clever though - the puzzles were engaging without being too difficult. I also really liked all the fish dialogue! I don't really have any feedback, it was just good fun. Overall, great entry! |
| Apr 16 15:45:17 | 21h 49m | Astro Heart | ♥ 1 | I couldn't beat level 6 for the life of me, and even when I tried to cheat by looking at your video, it didn't show the winning strategy :( Anyway, this was awesome! I'll admit that upon seeing the software interface for the first time, I burst out laughing at how overwhelming it was. Still, after looking at it more, it was pretty intuitive. Trying out a bunch of strategies was fun - even if most of them failed miserably - and cheesing levels 4 and 5 by staying put and spamming homing missiles was really funny. The balancing was a bit all over the place (like most compo entries), but it wasn't too bad aside from the aforementioned way too hard level 6. The extremely wonky and unpredictable movement made most strategies besides staying put/directly chasing the enemy seem unviable, which was a shame considering two of the three ships seem designed around such tactics. I tried creating a Pusher build, and it just failed miserably - I think the ability to push ships by bumping into them would've been nice. But again, totally understandable given the time constraint. Also, as others have mentioned, it was very confusing at first. The delay before a tooltip shows up was a bit too long for my impatient self, so I didn't realize they existed until reading your description. Also, there was no notification or something when you unlocked new weapons, so I only discovered them by accident. And lastly, locking the settings and credits buttons was... an interesting design decision. Overall though, I had loads of fun, and ended up playing it for like half an hour. Really great entry! |
| Apr 16 16:16:21 | 31m 04s | A Heavy Crown | ♥ 1 | I am truly a master of foreign relations. Screenshot 2024-04-16 191229.png Anyway, great game! I loved seeing all the different outcomes to every problem, and ended up replaying it plenty of times just to see every outcome and try getting the best/worst possible scores. The graphics and voice acting (alongside most of the jester options) were also pretty funny. It would've been nice to see some sort of summery screen - or even different endings - based on your path, as right now the game ends rather abruptly. But I assume you ran out of time for such a thing. Overall, really nice entry! |
| Apr 16 16:38:52 | 22m 31s | Molag Brawl | ♥ 2 | BRRRRAAAAAAAWWWWWWLLLLLLLL....... I think I finished the game? Screenshot 2024-04-16 191229.png Anyway, this was great! The music here is fantastic, I loved the constant chanting. The graphics were great too! And the concept of summoning monsters which actually attack you was super cool. As others have mentioned, it is a bit confusing - took me multiple tries to get it - but very satisfying once I did. However, the game did feel a bit too punishing - the monsters spawning immediately one you leave the triangle/the ritual fails can lead to immediate game overs, which feel bad. In general, tiny mistakes can lead to game overs extremely quickly, due to the main character's very low health & speed. In the end, the only reason I managed to reach even 3 glyphs was finding out that leaving the triangle during the final animation (the three circles pinging) still led to me getting the letter - which might be a bug. Still, this game was very fun, just a bit too hard. Overall, awesome entry! |
| Apr 16 16:58:21 | 19m 29s | Life of a skeleton | ♥ 2 | Very nice game! I'm a bit biased here, but I loved your take on the theme! The dialogue was great, and the timing between summons felt perfectly balance to create tension without being overwhelming or too annoying. The path to the "good" ending did feel a bit convoluted though - having to guess the name of her dog or birthday with zero information felt a bit bad, as each wrong answer led to a restart (and the birthday one took me 4 tries...). Other than that though, it was fun! Great entry! |
| Apr 16 17:07:53 | 9m 32s | Demon bowel trouble | ♥ 1 | Awesome game! I LOVED the graphics & animations here, they were amazing! The cutscenes were so goofy too! I don't really know YuGiOh or JoJo, but still laughed at the references - this concept was great. I don't really have much to add - as others have said, the lack of audio is a tad disappointing, but very understandable. Overall, this was just awesome! |
| Apr 17 16:49:21 | 23h 41m | Sum on! | ♥ 1 | I am truly a master tactician. Screenshot 2024-04-17 193712.pngScreenshot 2024-04-17 193249.png Anyway, really nice game! I was a bit iffy on the random aspect at first, but it led to some hilarious situations, so I was all on board. And since negative outcomes were way more common than positive ones, there was still some strategy involved (aka avoid modified numbers at all costs unless you're desperate). The funniest games though were ones where the big numbers had modifiers. Besides the gameplay, I liked the minimalistic aesthetic you had going for both the art and sound. One thing I noticed though was the additions/subtractions rarely had any meaningful effect, and you couldn't see fractions on your player, so they seemed a bit pointless (except for making some random outcomes sane I guess). Overall, great entry! |
| Apr 17 17:08:22 | 19m 01s | Throw Hands!! | ♥ 1 | Managed to beat wave 16 and jam alone to the music for all eternity! Anyway, awesome game! I loved the Paper Mario-like style, and all the different enemies (and the dwarf) had such cool & varied designs! Seriously awesome graphics here. And the concept of a buff dwarf fighting turkeys to an epic soundtrack was really funny to me. As others have said though, the gameplay was very spammy. Since enemies were practically neutralized the moment you attacked them once due to stun, the only real danger was from ranged enemies (who were actually pretty fun to avoid), and when you were swarmed from both sides, which mostly changed it to "spam AD in addition to IJKL". Nevertheless, the focus here was obviously the art & vibe anyway, and it wasn't too bad considering the length of the game. Overall though, I still really enjoyed it! Amazing entry! P.S.: Since you didn't make the music yourself, I recommend opting out of audio :) |
| Apr 17 17:27:29 | 19m 07s | DESUMMONING | ♥ 1 | Really nice game! I loved the opening cutscene with the Celeste-style voice. The art and sound were super polished as well. The gameplay was a bit simplistic as others have said - I tried multiple strategies, but it mostly seemd to boil down to luck (I used the exact same strategy for the final battle twice, once I lost miserably, the other time I won with little problem). Having to restart from the very beginning each time felt a bit too punishing as well. Other than that, great entry! |
| Apr 19 15:23:19 | 45h 55m | the call of the rats | ♥ 1 | Managed to find Pa! The plot twist at the end was great. Anyway, awesome game! All the little animations and sound effects were so cool, really made the world feel alive even with the very simplistic art style. I loved the writing here too! I don't really have any feedback, it was just a nice and very polished experience with a surprising amount of content. Overall, amazing entry! |
| Apr 19 15:31:46 | 8m 27s | WWWWW: Wily Wazza (the) Wizard's Wacky Wadventure | ♥ 1 | Managed to fail on time! Anyway, this was great! I loved all the graphics here, and the concept of summoning fridges and cars on top of enemies was hilarious. I actually found the wonky physics to be fun, made you feel like you were rushing around the world. It took me a while to figure out what was the difference between left- and right-clicking, and having to restart from the very beginning was a bit punishing (but not too bad thanks to the player's ridiculous speed), but other than that, awesome entry! |
| Apr 19 15:46:45 | 14m 59s | Dark Dominion | ♥ 1 | Great game! I really enjoyed a lot of the concept here - using the difficulty of drawing the summoning circle as a cost was very clever, and I loved the usage of jumping in the combat itself: getting over the enemy shield monsters using frogs felt great. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the random selection of monsters - it made the game feel a bit too luck-dependent to me, especially since no monster felt broken or anything (the better ones were harder to summon and had clear weaknesses). It also caused the earlier levels to be pretty boring, since all the cool monsters were only available in the last two levels. Nevertheless, it wasn't a huge deal, and this game had a surprising amount of content for a compo game anyway. Overall, awesome entry! |
| May 3 16:35:46 | 336h 49m | Haunted Forest | ♥ 1 | It took ~45 minutes, but I managed to finish this! Anyway, I the vibes here were amazing! The graphics were seriously awesome - I loved all the little animations and effects, especially the footprints. The simplistic sounds also added a ton. And the final animation was really cool! However, this was also probably the most frustrating game I've played this jam. I *know* that stuff like slow movement, very limited health, and - most importantly - limited (or in this case, no) saving are staples of survival horror, but here they felt like they only added tedium instead of tension. The lack of checkpoints was the absolute worst - every time I made the slightest amount of progress towards finishing the game, an antler monster attacked me and I had to start from the very beginning again. It even happened once after I completed two of the three steps and was on my way with the final ingredient. To be honest, I wanted to ragequit several times while playing this, but my curiosity about the ending kept me going, if only because there was no playthrough video for me to cheat with. In addition, it was extremely easy to die - and have to start all over again. It took me a long time to realize that you could only attack while moving, and I kept dying until then. Not that attacking really helped in any way - since the monsters kept charging you a moment afterwards anyway, and would eventually deal damage to you no matter how many times you tried to fend them off. Essentially, the moment a monster spotted you there was no way to avoid taking damage, and with their movement being pretty random and the ease of getting lost, it meant *a lot* of game overs. There were more things, but these were the worst offenders. Still, I did have fun! Figuring out the puzzle was interesting, and some of the twists - like with the old man - were pretty cool. I think I would've enjoyed it a great deal more if it was a pure puzzle game without the possibility of losing. And again, the graphics & vibes here - which were probably the focus - were really good. Overall, great entry! P.S.: I managed to get softlocked here ~~(which led to yet another restert)~~, but that one was mostly on me for trying something dumb. Screenshot 2024-05-03 185520.png |
| May 3 17:11:42 | 35m 56s | Summoning for Dummies | ♥ 0 | Managed to finish my homework! I liked the plot twist at the end :) Screenshot 2024-05-03 200334.png Anyway, really nice game! I loved the premise, and all the different demons were very fun. The dialog was also cute, and I liked the poking mechanic. I did encounter a bug where summoning too many imps at once softlocked the game, but otherwise, great entry! |
| May 3 18:49:01 | 1h 37m | I💰I💎I⚔️I | ♥ 1 | Managed to defeat the dark lord using the infinite card draw combo! It took me way too long to find it though. Screenshot 2024-05-03 214409.png Anyway, this was amazing!! I played it for over an hour I think - it was so much fun! I loved all the trade-offs between the different resources, figuring out when to summon cards, when to use them, when to keep them for next turn... It had so much depth! The balance was a little off - the Advanced Prospector was so good I kept refreshing until it showed up in the initial shop, and the aforementioned infinite draw is obviously pretty broken - but that's to be expected in a compo game. My only nitpick is that the Dark Lord growing stronger every turn felt a bit overtuned - in the one attempt where I actually reached it in a pretty good state without the infinite combo, I was suddenly wrecked when it kept growing massively every turn. It was also very easy to forget that you could attack with coins. Other than that though, I loved this! Awesome entry! |
