| Oct 7 07:44:05 | Shrew | ♥ 1 | Managed to beat it! This was really awesome. I love all the little details here - the dynamically changing music, the small animal animations, the line of sight blockers, the ending fade out... Everything felt super polished! The puzzles were pretty fun and different too. I only struggled a bit with the chameleon one, since I didn't realize it included the Red Panda's and Hedgehog's caves, but it was probably my favourite puzzle otherwise. I also liked the dialogue here and the different animal reactions to the question about the code. However, there was a minor bug where clicking before the text finished scrolling skipped it - I'm too used to games where it displays the full line instead, and ended up missing several lines because of it. It wasn't a huge deal since you could just speak with them again, though. Overall, really enjoyed this one, amazing entry! | |
| Oct 7 07:58:27 | 14m 22s | Gossamer Glade | ♥ 2 | Managed to defeat the boss and upgrade the tree! On day 1 - not sure whether it's a bug or I accidentally speedran the game :) The concept of a city builder with a shmup is cool though - I did not expect to enter a totally different game upon ending the first day! The graphics here are very pretty too, and it's nice that the boss has a different music. The game wasn't very stable - it crashed both when trying to upgrade the armory and quitting - but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, really nice entry! |
| Oct 7 08:24:05 | 25m 38s | Microadventure | ♥ 1 | Managed to defeat the nefarious Tardigrade with 68 juice remaining! This was great! I loved the opening here - jumping off a cliff is a truly dramatic entrance. The graphics in general were really nice here, I enjoy this version of cellular creatures much more than the real-life counterparts. The puns and humour were awesome too (cheese...). I never knew that the secret to a good martial arts fight was a sword. I actually really liked the juice mechanic here - it was a great way to prevent the game from being too punishing/frustrating with a very generous amount of "life", while also rewarding good play with higher scores. One thing which was a bit confusing though was the background/one-way platforms. They were used as a background in several places, but also served as a part of platforming in others, and it took me a while to figure out you can stand on them and press down to go through them. The corners there felt a bit weird too. Overall though, I enjoyed it! Great entry! |
| Oct 7 09:08:38 | 44m 33s | Rhythm of the Tinymon-Catcher | ♥ 2 | Managed to beat the game! ...With the help of a bug since it was too hard for me otherwise - you can battle past trainers again to get another Tinymon (discovered this by accident after trying to talk to my mom again). Still, it was really fun! The music was awesome, and the fact that you managed to make so many tracks in the short timespan is incredible. The idea of Pokemon + rhythm game is also great, and I enjoyed the vibes here. Back to the difficulty though, it did feel a bit frustrating. The multiple notes bug hurt a lot, but in general missing notes is very painful, since you actually lose 2 points - one for missing it, and another for pressing a button without a matching note - while getting a note right only nets you 1 point. This felt a bit too punishing for me, and I couldn't beat the 4th and above trainers :( Although I did try, if only to hear their themes! Overall though, I still really enjoyed it - awesome entry! |
| Oct 7 15:44:12 | 6h 35m | ROLL! | ♥ 2 | You bought me the moment I saw a customization button. Screenshot 2024-10-07 183857 2.png It was supposed to be a top hat with funky elf ears but there was no space... Oh well. Anyway, awesome game! It was pretty much pure chaos, but in a fun way, and the music & graphics (especially the audio waves background) really helped with this vibe. Managed to beat it by ROLLing & jummping around randomly. It was great! This is my kind of game design :) Overall, great entry! |
| Oct 8 16:14:01 | 24h 29m | David vs Goliath: What the government doesn't want you to know | ♥ 1 | A Captain Dreamcast game with actual gameplay and a speedrun timer?! Inconceivable! I couldn't get to sub-30, but did manage sub-31! unnamed.png Anyway, this was awesome! The story was hilarious - I loved your take on the theme (and the many places where you sprinkled it throughout) - and the cutscene graphics were great too: I especially loved how everything was presented as a news story. The gameplay was very fun too! The patterns were good, and the tie-in of the theme with the bullet-hell style projectiles requiring your tiny size to dodge was really cool. Taking damage freezing you for a second also prevented cheesing the boss by ignoring all projectiles for speedruns (although I'm probably the only one who cares about that :)). The spear felt a bit useless outside of the special attack to disable Goliath, but it is does make sense. Overall, I really enjoyed it! Awesome entry! |
| Oct 8 17:44:29 | 1h 30m | Prince Charmony | ♥ 1 | Incredible game! It was super fun to speedrun as well! Managed to get 3:07.78 minutes - I messed up a few times, but it was good enough for me :) https://youtu.be/T_ea9SNeGcY I loved pretty much everything here. The cutscenes are hilarious ("my parrot doesn't speak English" was my favourite line), and I loved the simple animations (with the sudden glowup in the ending one). The graphics here are mindblowing for a jam game - so many little effects, and everything looks amazing! It got to the point where my PC actually struggled running it, especially alongside OBS, which is... very rare for jam games (Baldur's Gate runs better!). Still, it wasn't too bad. And of course, the music and sound effects (especially the dynamic changing while standing on the special platforms) were, as always, both really good and really funny. The gameplay was my favourite aspect, though - especially the rabbit abilities, they were so cool! It was super fun "building" parts of the level to beat it, and all abilities felt very distinct. The levels were very clever too, and some took me a while to solve - my initial run took ~17 minutes. The bird abilities had some minor issues, though. I never used the platform one after unlocking double-jump since it just felt worse. And it took me a while to understand how to use the double-jump properly - aka infinite jumps from there. Which felt a bit awkward to use tbh, since you always wanted to begin jumping at the very top of the square. It would've been nice if holding space inside it automatically "jumped" you until you left the zone. Still, these weren't huge issues, and pretty much the only nitpicks I have. Overall, this is seriously amazing, even compared to your previous entries! Super funny, super pretty, and super fun. Incredible entry! |
| Oct 11 14:34:53 | 68h 50m | Impish Descent | ♥ 2 | Managed to beat it with all ascension levels! (it doesn't show them on the win screen but trust me) Asc5.png I kind of got lucky with the build, but it was super fun by the end - the mages dealt a ton of damage thanks to quarterstaff (and the holy scepter in the end made it even more absurd), the two staff summoners fished for more mages when I was doing well and staff clerics/scythe summoners when I wasn't, and the one scythe summoner made sure nobody really died. By the final level, I could defeat a ghost in one "hit", and revive everyone afterwards. It was great! Anyway, the fact you managed to make a full-fledged roguelike for the compo is mindblowing! I loved how there was a different mechanic for (almost) every imp/weapon combo, and the relics had some super cool effects. There is a lot of potential for fun builds here. The graphics are a bit simplistic, but the imps were cute and I appreciated how every relic had an icon. As always in compo games though, the balancing was a bit unpolished. This is mostly an issue in higher ascension levels, but level 1 was the hardest by far for me - you have very little resources and die in one hit. Both when playing it for the first time and my all ascension runs I lost the most times there. Some initial imps can make it almost impossible, even - for example, a staff mage barely deals damage faster than the ghosts regenerate, so you must hit them a large amount of times in a row to defeat even one, while dodging all their attacks and not going near walls (due to a bag, ranged attacks sometimes don't work while near a wall). Brawlers arguably have a harder time since you must enter melee range without getting hit once. I ended up resetting until I got a club mage to beat it (and even there I had to hope for good RNG...). I think starting with a relic or even two imps could help with that. Also, it felt like the game encouraged you at first to play defensively with the bullet-hell style attacks, but by the end of the game, it time prevented this kind of strategy with a bunch of regenerating enemies in huge groups (even without ascension levels). The fact that staff cleric/summoner stall strategies are extremely powerful didn't help. So I found myself stalling for a very long time in levels, waiting for an opening/ideal attack time which never really happened. In the end, suicide strategies with shields/scythe summoners seemed like the only viable course of action, but they kind of ignored the dodging aspect of the game... Still, these strategies were pretty fun, so it wasn't a huge deal. Overall though, I really enjoyed this! Again, I don't remember the last time (if any) I saw such a complete roguelike game here, and a very cool one at that! Awesome entry! And glad to see you back :) |
| Oct 11 14:55:57 | 21m 04s | Critter Catchers | ♥ 1 | Despite the huge trigger warning at the start of the page, I did not see that coming! The intro was incredibly well-made though - the sounds, timings, graphics, everything! The interpretation of "catching" them in body bags was hilarious. And of course, the contrast of between the cute graphics and the bloody content is excellent. The game itself was also nice - all the effects and sounds here (especially the music slowly speeding up) were great. I also liked having to balancing between shooting escaping critters and catching the dead ones. However, it did feel like 3 minutes was a bit long - by the end it grew a bit repetitive. I also tried going for a pacifist ending afterwards, and was pleasantly surprised you made one. I still got accepted to the company somehow though :) I later checked out the source code and saw that you created 5 different ones, which is pretty awesome! Overall, really enjoyed this, great entry! |
| Oct 16 15:37:37 | 120h 41m | Bugsies | ♥ 1 | Really nice game! As others have said, the graphics here are definitely the highlight, but I also enjoyed the concept of commanding the bugs around to progress. The last puzzle with the bug lightning up your way was especially cool. It took me a while to understand how the game works, and some more feedback when picking a bug and commanding it would've been nice, but otherwise, good entry! |
| Oct 19 10:42:06 | 67h 04m | Forest Tower Defense | ♥ 1 | Managed to beat it with 50 HP! The health display remaining until after the game ended is apparently a bug but still. unnamed.png Anyway, this was super polished! Everything felt very smooth and responsive, and I appreciate all the little quality-of-life features such as displaying when you don't have enough food to place a creature during placement or holding shift to place more (which I didn't get the point of until the last wave, but it was very fun spamming squirrels there :)). Even though there were only two towers, they was still a good amount of strategy involved, since you wanted to place the hedgehogs in very specific places to maximize the effect of their piercing attacks. I also really enjoyed the heavily dithered graphics, gave the game a very unique look! I agree that there could be slightly more food in the early game, but otherwise, this was very fun! Great entry! |
| Oct 19 10:58:53 | 16m 47s | Star-Bearers | ♥ 1 | Managed to lead the stars to safety! I did not see the talking rock at the end coming :) Anyway, this was great! The premise & graphics here are something else, this looks nothing like the Earth I know, but it was awesome! I did leave behind (aka accidentally killed) a lot of star people, but I'm sure it's fine. The levels were fun, although I didn't see a reason to not hold space at all times? Also, the poisonous plants look a tad too similar to normal ones, which led to one unfortunate... incident, where only two star people survived. Although this might be intentional. Overall though, I enjoyed it, very nice entry! |
| Oct 21 20:43:38 | 57h 44m | Bewildering Battles | ♥ 1 | Managed to defeat the Blood Lord and beat the game! That battle was certainly hard - my strategy ended up being killing the Left Hand asap to stop all healing, then spamming Energize with Ulysses every turn to make sure my characters (almost) never ran out of mana. Anyway, this was great! I love turn-based JRPG so the combat system here was right up my alley. I enjoyed all the characters sprites and different opponents, although it was a bit hard to understand what each one did - finding enemy healers the hard way was rough, especially during the boss fight. Speaking of which, I did not expect one at all, and it was pretty cool once I figured out how it worked! The game did feel a bit too random - random enemy attacks, non-perfect accuracy, and worst of all a (seemingly) random turn order, which made strategizing a bit tough at times, and it really sucked when an enemy killed Mr. Blob before it could cast Heal All. I also got softlocked once when Ulysses died while Pinspike had no mana... Lastly, I didn't really understand how effective buffs/debuffs were, how many turns they lasted and whether or not they stacked, so it was hard to use them properly. Still, these are all very understandable balancing issues for a compo entry, and they weren't huge deals. Overall though, I really enjoyed it! Awesome entry! |
| Oct 22 15:17:25 | 18h 33m | Crumbs | ♥ 1 | Managed to take flight and escape from the house! Anyway, this was really nice! I loved the graphics here, especially all the little faces the cookie made. The premise and writing were both very fun too. Even though the game was very short, I enjoyed the different sections. Overall, great entry! |
| Oct 22 15:29:29 | 12m 04s | Pest Quest | ♥ 1 | I'm a winner! To be honest, when I first saw the name and title screen of the game I thought this was an adventure where you play as a cockroach. Suffice to say, my expectations were subverted :) Anyway, this was great! I really enjoyed the graphics here, especially all the animations in the later levels and the various effects, such as the cockroach death or confetti ones. The sounds were very fun too, and some scenarios were hilarious! As others have said, squashing the moving roaches was a bit buggy sometimes, but otherwise things worked pretty smoothly for me. Overall, I really enjoyed it, awesome entry! |
| Oct 22 15:43:56 | 14m 27s | Dust Mates | ♥ 1 | Managed to throw away some trash! Anyway, this was awesome! I loved all the little cutscenes whenever you did something important, they really added to the experience! The premise here was great, and I liked the little dust mote, especially how they had different speeds (one of them kept getting left behind when carrying the crumpled paper, which was a bit annoying but also endearing). I didn't understand how carrying things worked until I re-read your description - I kept trying to just right click again after picking something up, only for the motes to drop it right back - but I can more than understand the lack of a proper tutorial due to the time limitation :) Overall, I really enjoyed it, amazing entry! |
| Oct 22 16:36:18 | 52m 22s | The Fair Folk of Ridianfa | ♥ 1 | Managed to reach the good ending! This was a really nice little RPG. I enjoyed all the lore here and the different fairies. Only spawning some of them was also a very nice touch - until I read about it in the spoilers, I kept expecting more to show up eventually, which really fit the superstition theme. I ended up having to read the book twice, since I forgot most of it the first time, but that was mostly on me for not taking a screenshot (I did in the second one). And then being able to tell who was the Occorach Fer and who was the Torathar thanks to it was an awesome moment, made even better when the Occorach Fer saved me at the end! I never realized farm life was this dangerous :) Nevertheless, the game did feel a bit too luck-based and repetitive. Even after I realized some Foirmeacha were haunting my barn and made sure to thank them every single time, I kept getting wounded there, sometimes without even increasing the animal status... There were only two times where I actually managed to take care of them properly. Also, when doing the "spend time with family" action, I didn't see any reason to not just always pick the first option? In the end, the days ended up being almost the same to me - always leave some milk, take care of the lowest-score house part, and thank the Foirmeacha before entering the barn, with very little variety (outside of the events - which were very cool! - but were too far and few in between). And as some others have said, the game also felt a bit too long for its content. Around day 12 or so I thought it might even be endless, since interesting stuff stopped happening, and read the spoiler to see whether there was ending. Still, this kind of pacing issue is very easy to make in the compo :) Overall, I still greatly enjoyed this! Awesome entry! |
| Oct 23 19:43:56 | 27h 07m | Gull and Ray | ♥ 1 | Managed to save the ray! Anyway, this was really nice. I enjoyed all the characters here and some of them (Hugh Mann...) were hilarious. The concept was also very cool, seeing the complete ray in the title screen and then suddenly walking on it as a huge map really nailed down the feeling of a Tiny Creature. The puzzles were also pretty fun once I got how the game works: I liked how everyone managed to describe the same three qualities in (mostly) different ways, and the egg one - which is hinted in the stone tablet instead of an NPC - was a cool surprise. Not to mention the tiny fishing minigame at the end of each temple, I did not see that coming! As others have said though, this was incredibly confusing. I started interacting with the stashes & temples way too early and didn't get a thing. The UI for them was the most confusing thing imo - pressing up/down on each button to change its content was very unintuitive for me, and I kept trying to press them only for the selection to end without any feedback. Perhaps showing small up/down arrows above & below each button would help? Or making interact cycle between the options instead of picking them, and adding a separate confirm button would be clearer? The temple insertion UI was better, but still pretty confusing before I had any items. Nevertheless, this sort of issue is very understandable with the time constraint, and I did eventually figure it out myself. Overall, I enjoyed this once I got how it worked! The writing and setting were definitely the highlights here. Great entry! |
| Oct 25 16:19:10 | 44h 35m | Small Sands | ♥ 1 | Managed to complete the pyramid! I dread to think how long it must have taken for the initial 3 or so people to build the rest of it :) Anyway, this was really great! The research mechanic was definitely the highlight for me - the moments when I completed one and suddenly both a new "house" appeared and a previously background element turned into a gatherable resource were awesome. And upgrading the existing ones with ropes and pots and wheels was very cool too. It was also interesting as a gameplay mechanic - usually, in this kind of games leaving workers idle is a bad idea, so you constantly have to find stuff to do for them. But here, it actually helps you, making it both a more relaxed experience, and adding a balancing act of should I focus on gathering more materials to gain more people, or research faster? I really loved it. In general though, it did feel more fun in the early-game than the late-game (similar to some other games in the genre). Once you complete your research, and have enough workers to stop engaging with the "wheat running out so you have to switch stalks" mechanic, it kind of turns into a maintenance game, where the only thing you do is occasionally replenish the ropes and pots or send more workers to the brick. And that phase did take a bit long, like others have said. Still, it wasn't too bad. Overall, I really enjoyed it! It was a fun and relaxing experience. The graphics were also nice - I especially liked the very tall wheat stalks and the parallax background. Awesome entry! |
| Oct 25 17:13:58 | 54m 48s | PocketMen | ♥ 0 | Managed to make every Pocket Man happy! Although how is Plant Pot Man happy is beyond me :) Anyway, this was awesome! I loved the concept here, and both taking pictures of the Pocket Men and placing them was super satisfying. In general, everything here felt super polished, from the excellent tutorial to the fights. The graphics were very cute too! The fights did grow more frustrating the more Pocket Men I had, since by the end there were so many cards I couldn't see their name without hovering over them. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this! Amazing entry! |
| Oct 25 17:39:16 | 25m 18s | Gravity Well | ♥ 0 | Managed to get back home! Some expeditious Glorps managed to dig a few tunnels to the core some time before that happened though - and the lasers had to destroy almost everything else before it registered a victory! Screenshot 2024-10-25 203451.png Anyway, this was great! I was impressed by the amount of upgrades and different mechanics it had. As always in idle games, watching things grow (or in this case, shrink) massively by the end is always satisfying. I particularly enjoyed using Glorps over excavators, and with the help of enough catering and replication upgrades I couldn't afford enough hovels to contain them :) I also enjoyed all the humorous descriptions. I don't have much feedback, it looks like you achieved what you set out to do and everything (aside from the aforementioned victory bug) works great. Overall, very fun entry! |
