Apr 7 09:15:01 Crabs in a Bucket ♥ 1 Managed to reach 29 meters! I really tried getting to 30 but couldn't do it :( Anyway, this was very fun! The core mechanic was awesome, it felt great timing your jumps to drop the crabs on spikes or below boulders. The different items & relics were cool too, especially the drill - it was really chaotic, but massively increased your score (that's how I got to 29m that one time). Generally, I played this for much longer than I expected! I do feel like it would've been nice to have a (weaker version) of the Slayer relic from the start, to give an incentive to actually defeating enemies. Also, in the deeper layers there were just so many crabs that it felt like you couldn't do much except spam jump & hope for the best, but it did prevent runs from going on for too long :) Also, while crabs getting stuck together sometimes & freezing was almost certainly a bug, it was actually pretty fun to use & plan around in a way! Overall though, really enjoyed this one! Great entry!
Apr 7 09:35:55 20m 54s DEPTH OF FIELD ♥ 1 Finished it with a score of 23.96 & a picture of every object! Anyway, this was really nice! The core idea is very cool, and I really enjoyed the various objects you put around to take pictures of - even the basic Blender objects had charm thanks to the funny plaques :) I think my favourite was the ghost in the back yard. Also, the moving objects like the bird & butterfly were very cool & fun to take pictures of! I did have one problem where I forgot which button was used to finish the game, and when I pressed Escape, I was thrown back into the menu & had to restart :( The game is pretty short so it wasn't too bad, but it would've nice to mention the button inside the game I think. Otherwise though, this was great! Awesome entry!
Apr 7 10:01:04 25m 09s Hell R Us ♥ 1 Managed to run hell to the ground! Anyway, this was awesome! The takes within takes on the theme were hilarious, I loved how all the characters had hidden (off-screen) depths in the depths of hell. The ending screens were really fun too! The gameplay was a bit bare-bones this time, but I did appreciate how all enemies had different behaviours, with Kashsa moving a lot, Broni dealing a lot of damage & [REDACTED] spamming bullets. I tried speedrunning it a few times, but after accidentally skipping the result twice by spamming A & Enter I gave up :( Overall, I enjoyed it! Great entry!
Apr 7 20:37:25 10h 36m Wizardry Catacombs ♥ 1 Managed to reach the bottom! The ending made me laugh :) Anyway, this was awesome! I really loved the graphics here, and the sound effects were funny too. The amount of content here is what blew me away, though - I really did not expect so many floors! And with constant new tilesets & enemies to boot (the later ones were palette swaps but still). Not to mention the ending! Lastly, I appreciate how the enemies actually had an attack animation instead of just bumping into you :) It did begin to drag a bit by the end, though. While I didn't mind the mana mechanic for most of the game, it made fighting with the summoning slimes really awkward, where it was just a staring contest while I was recharging mana & they were waiting to spawn another slime. Not to mention that fighting two (or even three) at a time was a nightmare. Also, floors 16-20 and 26-30 felt really long - I actually appreciated a lot how 21-25 felt intentionally shorter, since there were no more new enemy types & you were approaching the end anyway, just wish that 26-30 were the same. Still, that's pretty minor, especially since balancing is always difficult in game jams anyway. Overall, really enjoyed it! Amazing entry!
Apr 7 21:21:58 44m 33s Sea Dicegarden ♥ 2 I should've won thanks to a bunch of die duplication glitches, but I couldn't press on the final die for some reason :( t.png Anyway, this was... thoroughly confusing. I managed to understand the blue/yellow/red die, and after some trials-and-error the orange one as well, but I still don't get what the number on the green/purple die does. Or how to get plants - it felt like most of the time I grew nothing... Also, getting orange die was really hard for me for some reason, while I was swimming in green ones (which led to multiple bugs once I claimed my 5th one before my 2nd orange die). I think it would've been nice if the game showed you a preview of what would happen if you already tried the exact same combination once, to at least prevent that from happening. Still, I liked all the plant animations, and whenever I accidentally discovered new types - like the tall stalky ones - it felt great! Also, the purple ones led to some pretty cool plants, and I appreciate how they sped up reaching the end significantly. And just dragging die around and seeing what happens was still fun :) Overall, while I felt like a monkey pressing random keys trying to write Hamlet, I nevertheless enjoyed the concept!
Apr 9 11:15:34 37h 53m Murder for Dessert ♥ 1 Managed to find the culprit! Anyway, this was awesome! The setting here was super cool, and the mixed use of pictures & drawings worked out incredibly well. I really enjoyed the writing here & the story was hilarious - I could definitely understand the culprit's frustration upon discovering them :) The pin mechanic was very cool as well, while it worked similar to evidence in other games, it felt more satisfying since you had to actively gather it yourself instead of being handed things automatically by the game - really clever! Similar to some other games in the genre though, sometimes you present something adjacent to - but not quite - what the game expected, which was a bit frustrating. For example, I presented the line that Bethany was friends with Phillips to Zamora instead of the line that she knew Zamora; or I presented the *reason* that Richard was crying to Billy instead of the *fact* that he was crying. While this wasn't a huge issue, it did make me a bit overly cautious to present stuff due to the limited lives, and I actually got stuck after presenting the wrong Richard line to Billy since I thought that wasn't the intended direction. Of course, this is very understandable in a jam game, just something to keep in mind for the future :) Lastly, while this one's purely one me for being too used to Ace Attorney, but I only realized in my second playthrough (after losing once) that you could just present pins regardless of the line they were saying. Which is great and prevented the additional room-for-error of presenting the right thing for the wrong line, but feel like it could be mentioned somewhere. Overall though, I really, really loved this! It's so cool that you managed to make a complete murder mystery in just three days! Incredible entry!
Apr 9 11:29:30 13m 56s Descent to sunrise ♥ 1 We're free! Anyway, really enjoyed this one! I loved the switching characters mechanic, and the magnets were very cool too - especially one you gathered a few :) The graphics were pretty cool - especially the water/light effects near the top - and the music was relaxing and nice. It's very impressive that you managed to make a complete metroidvania in such a short time! I did get lost a few times near the end and a map would be appreciated, but otherwise, great entry!
Apr 10 15:30:24 28h 00m Puppeteer ♥ 2 Managed to reach the end! Anyway, this was awesome! Such a cool mechanic & interpretation of the theme! Everything felt super polished & smooth, and the art style worked great here! The music changing slightly when you moved between modes was a nice detail too. And the levels were very cool, especially once the curtains arrived. I did find the controls a bit awkward, as I kept pressing space to jump & accidentally paused the game, and I completely forgot you can move the camera so got stuck for a bit on the first curtain level because of that, but otherwise, amazing entry!
Apr 11 12:51:14 21h 20m Deck Digger ♥ 1 Managed to win! Anyway, this was fun! As others have said, the core mechanic of having to take damage to gain coins is very clever. Especially once the large diamond blocks arrive, which are instant death if you haven't upgraded your max health yet, preventing people from just skipping gaining money. I also really appreciate the opening cinematic & the little character graphic at the top left, gave the game a lot of personality. It did feel like gaining new cards was a bit underwhelming, as most of them except the doubling one for health or two steps down one felt pretty useless, but otherwise, great entry!
Apr 11 13:16:06 24m 52s Pandora's Return ♥ 2 Managed to reach the end! Spamming Frenzy + Vampire + Mastery was a hilarious combo. Regen.png Anyway, this was awesome! I really enjoyed the mechanics here - in most games regenration feels pretty rare/bad, yet here it was the most important part of most builds, including for enemies (although "pure" regeneration felt pretty bad since Vampire exists). The graphics were cute too, and I liked the number animations in combat, made them feel alive despite the static sprites. Like others have said, it was a bit easy to get lost & a map would be appreciated, but otherwise, great entry! And sorry for your loss :(
Apr 20 18:03:14 220h 47m The Earth Treasures Show: Season 4 ♥ 0 Managed to get 360 points on my second attempt! It's not much, but I blame it on the PeepCube getting stuck here: a.png Anyway, this was fun! The concept is awesome - I love the idea of a fake alien TV show obsessed with garbage. The game itself reminded me a lot of Lethal Company-style games but without the horror element, which was really nice since I'm not good with horror. In general, the game felt very relaxed despite the time limit thanks to the music & atmosphere, which worked out great. I also appreciate the little details such as the face changing when you put something in or the short end messages. I didn't really get what the red bar was about, and the map felt a bit too big & empty to me, but otherwise, great entry!
Apr 21 15:05:06 21h 01m Into Enemy Depths ♥ 2 Managed to reach the dreaded End Screen! Anyway, it was great! I'm a massive tactical RPGs fan, so this was right up my alley. The amount of content here is pretty impressive given the time frame - making a tactics game is no small feat! I enjoyed the silly story and how everyone had the exact same face, I know it's probably due to time constraints but it gave the game a lot of charm. It did feel like the unit's stats & movement meant that defeating the enemy archer (and to a lesser extent, the mage) as soon as possible was absolutely essential, while the enemy knight & healer didn't really do anything. Nevertheless, the different maps worked well and I did lose one unit in the final level. Overall, it was fun!
Apr 21 15:20:52 15m 46s GGRREEDD ♥ 1 Managed to reach the diamond! Anyway, this was fun! I liked the graphics you did manage to finish, and the missing rock sprites didn't bother me too much. The energy mechanic was interesting, and it felt great managing to end the day at exactly the right time to not have to pay the tax. The upgrades felt good too, especially after a few speed & digging power ones. I don't really have any feedback, everything worked great. Maybe a warning when your energy was about to run out, even as an upgrade, would've been nice? Overall though, very nice entry!
