Cool game! Great job to make a rhythm game in just a weekend!
A stick insect meme may be great for the tiny creature theme and rhythm challenge XD
The html version seems to have synchronization isssues between the notes and music.

Can't get the game to start it seems. Pressing space only scrolls the page all the way down, and even on fullscreen, nothing happens. (Linux, Chromium)
I must say, I think this is the best one I played yet. As an audio guy I appreciate the songs a lot (very reminiscent of the first Geometry Dash songs (,: ). The graphics are simple, yes, but they have one coherent vibe. And that to me means much more (: Well done!

What in the fever dreams is this?? :D It's got all the bits in place, so many bits, but it feels like none of the very well done bits talk to one another? - A whole ass exploration thing with maps but there's really nothing to explore - A whole ass inventory of tinymons that... Do nothing? Well the first one gates the exit to the house, but certainly was not needed to actually do the gate. - I guess my biggest gripe is that if you had cut the exploring map top down bit and focused on the rhythm game, it could have come out with so much more in terms of feel and mechanics :p - I can't help but feel like the rhythm section's scoring was a bit rudimentary, but it does the job. No biggie. - Would have been nice for the dance bit to involve some kind of visuals other than the bars. But not a big deal. - The rhythm mapping + songs were surprisingly good considering this is was a jam. Do you have past experience mapping rhythm games?
@wupi oh really? that sucks. I tried to test it on multiple computers and it worked on everyone of them.
@tuism no this was actually my first rhythm game.
@tuism yea that's what I also thought. So much executed so well in so little time.

@dropmania I suppose you play rhythm games a fair bit at least then? The mapping is good! Good job!

@dropmania Actually got it working when testing on firefox. Cool game, and catchy music with good aesthetics. Only thing, is that the game doesn't always register multi notes if the keys are pressed too close together. Had to fiddle around this by "rolling" multinotes.
@wupi oh nice! And yes I noticed that too with multiple notes. But I didnt have enough time to look into it in the end. Glad you liked it :)
Managed to beat the game! ...With the help of a bug since it was too hard for me otherwise - you can battle past trainers again to get another Tinymon (discovered this by accident after trying to talk to my mom again). Still, it was really fun! The music was awesome, and the fact that you managed to make so many tracks in the short timespan is incredible. The idea of Pokemon + rhythm game is also great, and I enjoyed the vibes here.
Back to the difficulty though, it did feel a bit frustrating. The multiple notes bug hurt a lot, but in general missing notes is very painful, since you actually lose 2 points - one for missing it, and another for pressing a button without a matching note - while getting a note right only nets you 1 point. This felt a bit too punishing for me, and I couldn't beat the 4th and above trainers :( Although I did try, if only to hear their themes!
Overall though, I still really enjoyed it - awesome entry!
@frogman yeah I was aware of this bug. I kept it in because of time and also so people are able to beat it. Because yes, this game is difficult and that was my intention. However you are probably right it's really punishing to lose 2 points for a miss. And the multi-note bug doesnt help. I tried to balance the win requirements with enough tolerance but its hard to do that if you are the only person testing it :D
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you :)
good game! I really love these rhythm games, i enjoy it!

Got my head bopping after I got a hang of how the notes work! Great job on the music! The font is a bit hard to read in dialogues.

🌟 Great game! 🎮 I was pleasantly surprised how well they managed to create a rhythm game in just a weekend! The music is incredibly addictive, and I felt like I was in the good old Geometry Dash. 🎵 Simple but stylish graphics complement the atmosphere perfectly. Yes, there are some minor issues with synchronization and multi-legged notes, but this does not spoil the overall impression. 🔥 Great work! 👏

I'm generally pretty good at rhythm games but I struggled my first dance with this. It feels like the timing for the first hit is just a little bit off, so I ended up delaying my button press just a fraction of a second which seemed to work out better. I wonder if you could add a tiny margin of grace just before a note is expected to be pressed to tidy that up just a little bit more? Otherwise, loved it. :)
Only played a few of the songs, but I liked the beats and vibes. ~~I'd suggest adding a bit of leeway to hit a note before it reaches the bar (even just shifting the music over by a few milliseconds). Otherwise hitting the note exactly in time with the music has a 50/50 chance of causing a miss.~~
Edit: Tried it again, and I think maybe it does have some leeway built in. Maybe it felt odd since there's a whole note of leeway after the beat, but almost no leeway before the beat. Otherwise the maps felt good to play though.

I'm impressed, the music sounds great, the rhythm mapping is simple but fun, and the art is nice too! Impressive you were able to do all of this in 48 hours.
the scope is impressive, and the idea of a rhythm rpg is really cool! but I wasn't able to get very far because of n-key rollover, basically my keyboard had issues detecting the J and K keys at the same time, so any time a song had those two notes at once I would miss one of them, unless I played a flam across the two keys, which was kind of fun in and of itself but added an extra layer of difficulty. I also wished the rhythm part had been given some more polish: the notes all being the same white square makes it hard to differentiate, scoring/missing could use more feedback, and I felt myself wanting more variety in the rhythms rather than just straight quarter notes (maybe just didn't get far enough, I was only able to beat the first few battles). the music was nice though, and I probably would have tried to 100% the game if I didn't have the keyboard issue.
@markeryjane yeah the problem with multiple keys at once is not only you. I think the input handler from the engine just doesn't work that good for these type of games. And yes the music is overall pretty basic and the mappings are all in quarter notes. I planned to make the music a little more interesting but composing and mapping like 6 songs in one day kinda makes you uncreative in the end :D

Cool game! I liked the music :). I just wish there was a way to exit out of a song when you start it. Great work!
Nice game:), but my keyboard's ghost key made the experience a bit bad:(
I love a good rhythm game, and super impressive you got this done in a weekend! Other people may have suggested already, but my first thought would be to make the white boxes some kind of tiny creature to better fit the theme. I also feel like the initial level should be far easier (like you can't possibly lose) and the levels increase slowly in difficulty as you go, so you can still have a challenging game but hook people into the difficulty more as they go. I found it starting too hard for me to complete unfortunately.
I played this in the morning and i was way to slow and hit the wrong buttons all the time xD. Fun game
@camcomduck @jhonny111 yeah maybe I made this a little too difficult for a jam game I realize lol... I did not have too much trouble with the levels but of course I can't assume that for everyone :D I will learn from this and make my next jam games easier^^

This is impressive for a compo game! As a rhythm game enjoyer myself, you didn't need much to hook me, but as others have said the mappings (and songs themselves) are well done. I definitely would've liked more visuals for the notes, both for aesthetics & theming (make it pretty yay!) and for making the experience of hitting the notes more impactful. Even just making the little bar that pops up when you press a key bigger would've been nice.
A couple minor bugs/inconsistencies: - Twice I lost a battle despite beating the listed high score; is that not the amount you need to win? (For example, hitting 220 on the house directly across from the starting one, even though it says HS: 210) - Escape isn't a great key for restarting a song, b/c the game works much better in fullscreen, and escape...takes you out of fullscreen. - The music restarting when you enter a new area is a little annoying (mostly noticeable in the very first house) - I wish there was some way to leave a conversation/battle once you've started, but it's either play through it or restart the game
@ember44 thx for the feedback! These are definitely all valid points. I planned for more visuals like you could see them actually dance in the background, but wasn't able to get to that because of the time limit.
And yeah there seems to be a bug in the end that just drains your points after the song sometimes... I have not figuerd out what triggers it..
And even though I have done quite a few games on Itch.io now, I still always forget about the ESC thing... maybe next time I will remember :D (surely not)

I love rythm games and I enjoyed this one. The music is catchy and the scoring conditions are simple. It was quite difficult, especially because of the multi-note bug mentioned above. I also didn't realise you weren't supposed to play the same song more than once, so I actually did the first one three times to get a bit better at it, and that's how I got my first three tinymons and it allowed me to skip some of the harder levels. The last level was actually not as difficult for me as some others, I got it in first go (maybe because there were not so many combinations that triggered the bug). I imagine that if you add a story component, then the game will feel more complete, because now it's not clear why you have to walk from one place to the next. Overall, it's a really cool game, and the songs are mapped nicely. I'd love to play a longer version of it.
@kateryna Glad you liked it :D I planned to make more of the Overworld part initially. It really was supposed to be like Pokemon just with Dancing instead of fighting. I might pick this up again and try to make it an actual game :D it was really fun to make.

Very fancy game, the pixel art and the music are beautiful, but it's way too hard, there is zero tolerance with the key presses, and the HJKL keys are very close to another which is not very comfortable. Maybe I just really suck at those games but my hiscore is 13 on the first level :/.
Ps: Please adapt the player movement to AZERTY keyboards (e.g. allow movement with the arrow keys).
@mibi88 yeah the difficulty really depends on the person. For some people it's no problem and for others it's really hard to get into. In my opinion rhythm games shouldn't be too easy that you just first try every song. However for a Game Jam I realize I should've made it a little easier :D
And I will make adjustments to the game like the controls and bug fixes. But I will do this after the jam to not fake the ratings.
This was an unexpectedly fun entry. Great job on the music and pairing the charts with the songs. The story/overworld was a great way to tie the levels together.

I did it!
That was fun but the difficulty was a bit unablanced, I beat all the songs on my first try except for the one right next to the 5 tinymon gate. That song took me 4 attempts to beat. I mainly struggled with the back to back double notes. I found the last song to be very easy and got a near perfect but that might've been from all the practice I got on the previous song.
I enjoyed the rhythm game aspect although the keys were a little bland being just white rectangles, and I wish you had more feedback when you scored or missed a note. Maybe some tiny vfx or a subtle clap sound effect.
The tinymon seemed pretty pointless and tacked on though. At first I thought it would be a pokemon style game where you battled with a rhythm mini game, but in reality its a rhythm game where you just gain a tinymon when you win?
Kinda weird but an enjoyable experience nontheless
