Great little strategy RPG! You did a fantastic job balancing the game.
Very impressive variety for a battle system developed in 48 hours! Lining up a string of attacks and watching them all execute was really satisfying. I also really liked how each party member had a clear personality based on its sprite and moveset! For extra polish, it would be cool to display the effects of debuffs somewhere in the UI -- it wasn't clear whether they stacked or not.
Thank you for the try again option lol Challenging and fun! Nice work :)
Looks really good and the sound is nice
A well done JRPG battle system!
Very impressive, wow that's a lot of systems at play! I wish there had been little animation or something similar showing which little creature was getting attacked at a given moment. It got hard pretty fast and the drawings are adorable! :)
Great start! Getting this ready for the Compo is very impressive, though for a game like this I'm curious what another day of development would have resulted in. Would love to see this as part of a full game.
Fun little game. Got to the last boss but gave up after losing a couple times. Ulysses seems to be the linchpin of the party and losing them multiple times in a row means you're generally just waiting to die. This is also the second game written in Rust that I've seen this jam, nice job writing everything from scratch.
This game really reminds me of the JRPGs from the Mega Drive (or Sega Genesis in the US)! It's genuinely addictive, and I absolutely love this genre. Plus, it's made in Rust! If I had to suggest something, I would have loved to see an introductory story - especially with characters like tiny creatures - right before the first battle to really immerse me in the game's lore or storyline. That being said, I think it's a fantastic game and a solid entry. Great job!
Impressive work! One small bug I noticed- an enemy's sprite would disappear as soon as the attack that'd defeat them started resolving, before the message that actually said they were KOed would show up.
Nice battle game. I like how you included many abilities
Managed to defeat the Blood Lord and beat the game! That battle was certainly hard - my strategy ended up being killing the Left Hand asap to stop all healing, then spamming Energize with Ulysses every turn to make sure my characters (almost) never ran out of mana.
Anyway, this was great! I love turn-based JRPG so the combat system here was right up my alley. I enjoyed all the characters sprites and different opponents, although it was a bit hard to understand what each one did - finding enemy healers the hard way was rough, especially during the boss fight. Speaking of which, I did not expect one at all, and it was pretty cool once I figured out how it worked!
The game did feel a bit too random - random enemy attacks, non-perfect accuracy, and worst of all a (seemingly) random turn order, which made strategizing a bit tough at times, and it really sucked when an enemy killed Mr. Blob before it could cast Heal All. I also got softlocked once when Ulysses died while Pinspike had no mana... Lastly, I didn't really understand how effective buffs/debuffs were, how many turns they lasted and whether or not they stacked, so it was hard to use them properly. Still, these are all very understandable balancing issues for a compo entry, and they weren't huge deals.
Overall though, I really enjoyed it! Awesome entry!
It's an interesting idea to make a jrpg, but the whole trouble rests on the visual and musical accompaniment. I am very sorry, but they are weak enough, although it is very interesting to play it.
