Managed to defeat the demon lord! This was tough.
Anyway, great entry! I loved JRPGs, so the gameplay felt great for me - difficult, but predictable enough that I managed to find a winning strategy after a few tries (buffing the mage & healer plus the knight's defense ASAP, guarding the healer and spamming fireballs with the mage). I also liked how the demon lord is basically a giant frog :) The music was a bit repetitive and the UI took some getting used to, but otherwise, very nice entry!
Fun little RPG! Battle system was satisfying and difficulty was perfect. Graphics are nice too.

- Interesting game, I liked the idea and presentation, I also liked the art - After several retries I managed to defeat him, but I imagined the timer was to kill him fast before he grows stronger, and not ignore everything and spam hp buff into oblivion so you can survive his last stage damage. It felt really weird, like being punished for doing something good, getting rid of him quickly. At first I also thought the buffs were temporary, seeing the damage I was doing went down. I'm not sure if it will resonate with a lot of people that they can't hit the boss and just spam shitty attacks defend and buff/heal

The game really reminded me of competitive pokemon, trying to get those sword dance going before destroying the opponent
I couldn't manage to not die straight after going into phase 3, the boss was hitting a bit too hard !

Interesting battle! I found it a bit tough that the boss suddenly wiped out our entire team without warning, so my second attempt was me maxing out the Mage and blessing everyone a couple of time! Was worth it since I barely survived the last attack as the boss has less than half a healthbar left.
Overall, the graphics were really nice (if a little static), the audio was OK but looped weirdly. I like the idea, and since it was made in 48h it is rather impressive!
I think a good idea to improve your game would allow the player to see some more stats at all time on the screen, and not have to manually click/select buttons a few times in a menu to check our stats :) But that's if you want to continue working on it afterwards, for a Compo game this is really nice!
Cool take on an turn based RPG. it feels almost puzzle like due to buffs being permanent, it created a nice risk vs reward for whether I should power up or attack. Nice work!

@pandalk Pokémon sword stance setup was exactly the vibe I was going for with the buff mechanics, glad to see that it came across
@linky439 funny enough, I'm actually in the process of mocking up how to display the stats on screen like you're suggesting. Current plan is to see how far I can take this over the next 2 weeks or so
@ellaris , pandalk, linky439:
Agree with the general sentiment that phase 3 is hitting too hard. The design goal was to encourage a balance between clearing the current phase vs buffing up for the next phase (aggro vs econ) but the way phase 3 is implemented basically requires a heavy investment in buffing the party.
Thanks for the feedback!
It's tough to find words to describe how I'm feeling. Just wow.

I don't understand much of what is happening, and I have no idea how to win. But the visuals and the music is pretty good.
Difficult battle, but it becomes clear how to use the mechanics of your options soon enough. Tried twice but failed to defeat the demon lord frog thing (man it's tough). Music is kind of creepy but I guess that suits the enemy being fought against. Everything seems to work bug-free, so that's nice. Good work!
The first attempt is much like a tutorial where I failed hard during phase 3, and in the next attempt I was able to properly plan the actions. This replay is also part of the game, and I enjoyed it.
The mechanic of the Demon Lord fits in with the 'summoning' theme, and at the end it became clear that the player's party are also the ones to be summoned, so the theme can be considered well used. Overall this is a nice little tactics game with an RPG (Pokémon) vibe!
Music had me bopping from the get go, love the mood you've created. Struggled a little bit at the start, would have been helpful to have some labels on the different members of my team, and what their special skills were before selecting. With a little fine tuning this could be a really fun game!
Turn based RPGs like these hit that spot that other games so often don't. You just have to try an try again until you make it. Great work, especially for being a compo!

Interesting to read the comments. I had to turn off the music because it made me so uncomfortable 😅 As someone with less experience in the genre, I struggled a lot. A small introduction would be very helpful.
Interesting take on a JRPG! The battle mechanics are well thought out, although it is quite difficult. I wonder if you had used RPG maker or something like that, it would have been easier?
