LD49 — Unstable

Tol by Decentsauce 2021-10-05T20:47:22Z

I enjoyed this quite a bit! It was great fun trying to get the top to the end. I was never able to figure out if hitting walls slowed the top down in any way or if it was just a set timer? I would have appreciated a more visible indicator of how much time was left and smoother transitions from block to block (quite often the top would catch on the ledge of a ramp or something when moving from one floor object to the next)

Thanks!

Unstable Stick by joewan 2021-10-06T18:10:49Z

Cool! Another pogo stick game! You gave me some ideas I can add to mine! Thanks! #pogogang

Bumpy Road by scottthoo 2021-10-07T15:11:19Z

I enjoyed the simple controls and concept. It was fun to try to keep control of the wonky truck! I wish I had some control of how the truck was spinning mid-jump, or at least certainty that it lands on it's wheels. Jumping feels like praying to RNGeezus for an upright landing. Other than that, a lot of fun so thanks for making this!

Unstable Marbles by Marc Grabow 2021-10-04T14:52:20Z

Love the audio and pixel graphics. Some of the balls are too small to see inside the truck. If they were all large, the counter would've been unnecessary and a bit more elegant overall.

"Oh no! You've lost!" Adorable. :D

No More Stables! by Raphiell 2021-10-06T18:07:18Z

Cool collection mini-games! Humor was right on point and the gameplay really matched the silly mood.

The missile command section seemed too long to me, but other commenters disagree so maybe you nailed it. Ha!

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-04T15:44:44Z

This one looks fun and the art looks awesome, but I can't really play it since the controls are confusing? I thought maybe a key was stuck on my keyboard because it runs off the platform in <3 seconds every single time even when not doing anything. Am I missing something?

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-06T16:44:12Z

Cool game! I reported this not working for me a couple of days ago, but after having trouble in some other games too I realized I was having a hardware issue, nothing wrong with your game! Sorry for any confusion.

Unstable Vampire: A Text based Infinite Runner by Dobryn 2021-10-04T15:29:19Z

I can't believe how slow I am at typing "run"!

Everything about this is great. The game itself is tense and the color scheme suits that well. Really innovative for a text-based game!

The ties to the theme are a bit vague, but so are mine so

The Nuclear Ball by 0X_VOID_X0 2021-10-05T17:46:34Z

Very challenging dexterity game! I like the simple controls. I really appreciated the blinking laser indicating it was about to blow, and the duality of the bouncy pads being good or evil depending on the circumstance.

I might like it if you had to slow the nuclear ball below some certain velocity for the chamber to accept it instead of just launching it full speed once you get to the final stretch.

TECHNUCLEAR by TheGreenWorm 2021-10-06T15:28:16Z

So good! Such attention to detail with the sound track and visuals. Great level design with nice difficulty progression and even including a boss level which was unexpected! High marks all around even without considering the fact that you managed it in under 48 hours. I might just have to replay it to appease my desire for more levels!

Jump Goat by 0x746564 2021-10-04T14:55:40Z

Nice art and simple controls!

Would've like a bit more width out of the level so there's more side to side action. Right now you can just spam W and get pretty far.

Watch your step by Haematite 2021-10-05T14:15:21Z

Very tough roguelike! The art is great! I only ever got to floor 1 and that was only by chancing upon the room with the stairs. I wish perhaps there more of the solid floor tiles. Maybe there could be a cross shape of solid floor in each room connecting all the doors so you can always get to any room again, and then the choice would be about which parts of which rooms to explore first? Anyways, I did enjoy it and want to try it again to see if I can do better next time. Thanks!

Mars Contractor by Chameth 2021-10-04T15:17:54Z

Nice text based game! The music was pleasant. The graphics were awesome. Loved the clues that something was off scratched into the wall. My only complaint is I wish it were longer to give the story a few more beats!

Cave In by Rafael Garcez 2021-10-05T18:12:29Z

Fun game! At first I thought I was the player on the left, but when I clicked over there, nothing happened. Then I clicked on the right and something happened so I thought, "I must be the player on the right!" Then I tried to keep myself (the player on the right) from reaching the spikes and was confused that the CPU was so eager to get to the bottom and die. Then when they won I still wasn't sure what had happened, I thought then maybe it was a suicide race? Ha! Finally figured out that you're destroying the obstacles under your opponent and you're trying to make them die before you do.

Once I figured out what was going on, it was quite fun and an entertaining little distraction for a few minutes.

Thanks!

Brain In Jar by MechanizedIT 2021-10-05T13:12:03Z

Awesome! So much better on mobile with touch controls than with the keyboard so I recommend anyone trying it out to go open it in your mobile browser at least.

Turbulences by Emparans 2021-10-05T13:32:04Z

Really innovative concept! I'm not really sure what the controls are though? On mobile it seems they are way too sensitive; any touch is insta-loss. On PC it seems like nothing I do changes anything? Maybe some kind of indication that a button or joystick is being moved by ME, rather than by the ambient turbulence?

Lord Glutton by Spolarium 2021-10-05T13:05:53Z

Cool game! Nice graphics! Nothing bad to say about it!

Snek Left by Martin Magni 2021-10-04T18:37:37Z

Aggravatingly addicting for such a simple concept!

Bounceable Side by Artast 2021-10-05T13:16:07Z

Really innovative mechanic here and great graphics to boot! It is a bit hard to get the hang of and some nice easy tutorial levels would have been appreciated, but given the time constraints, it's easy to see how you wouldn't have time for that.

@henriquecanella Thanks for the feedback! I'll add some instructions to the post, and after the jam, I can add some in-game indicators. Maybe an arrow or something pointing at the crates you need to knock down in the first level? Also, a better lose animation might help explain what triggered the loss?

Pogo Man by sawdust 2021-10-06T11:12:39Z

Thanks @brainloaf-studio ! Funny thing is, it didn't feel like designing puzzle levels, it felt more like designing arcade levels. Glad you liked it!

@leokrechmer Thanks for streaming my game! You said you had some questions for me so I sent you a Discord friend request. Thanks again!

Pogo Man by sawdust 2021-10-07T15:14:53Z

Thanks @martin-magni ! I'm working on such a feature for a post-jam update. Lot's of tweaking to get it just right so it isn't frustrating. Thanks @raphiell ! Yes, ideally there would have been at least twice as many levels to get from the beginning to the most complex final level and I'm working on that post-jam. Thanks for the camera feedback! You're the first to mention that.

Pogo Man by sawdust 2021-10-07T19:13:05Z

@purrseus Thanks! I'm thinking about adding a feature where each successive bounce on the pogo is higher than the last (up to a max ofc) if you're holding the up arrow. Basically you'd get one little hop, then a small jump, then a big leap. If all you need is the little hop then you let go, but if you need bigger then you just wait until you get the height you need? It might even lead to some cool puzzle mechanics!

Thanks for the Fancade shoutout! I'm super proud of the wide range of games our community put out this jam.

Pogo Man by sawdust 2021-10-09T12:23:56Z

Thanks @pascone ! You're absolutely right. Originally it was unstable buildings you were knocking over, but they were too small and it didn't look right. I reskinned them at the last minute with the intention of adding a feature where they blow up if you hit them too hard, but I didn't get it in in time.

Thanks @mastoast ! Thanks @jupiter-hadley for all the work you're putting into this! It's very helpful to see other people play my games.

Unistable by ThaCuber 2021-10-05T13:28:47Z

Nice simple gameplay that couldn't be tougher to beat! I couldn't beat even one level on PC. Had better luck on mobile, but it was still pretty tough. Excellent thematic ties at least!

Orbitize by Pratik G 2021-10-05T13:14:24Z

It is fun to look at! I'm not really sure what I'm doing, although I do appear to be orbiting the yellow star. I'm not sure how to affect the movement at all though, so it doesn't feel like a game, but rather some kind of simulation.
