Love this art style. Like a demonic version of the pizza minigame from club penguin. Only complaint is I was a little confused on whether I got the pizza correct sometimes, and if I got it wrong, what was off.
If I'm understanding the game correctly, I really like the twist on the survivors-like formula, but I kept taking damage and couldn't figure out why. The times I stayed alive longer were fun.
I knew from the post on day 1 that I was gonna love this one, and it did not disappoint. Small but unique concept executed (heh) flawlessly.
A minigame polished to perfection with a leaderboard to drive you to do better! Feels like it could've slotted in perfectly to the initial wave of ".io games" back when those first blew up.
I was fighting for my life to get past day 3 but damn that's a fun and addicting game! Really well polished, even more impressive it's compo!
Neat usage of multiple characters to add more depth. I think the puzzle mechanics might not be getting reset correctly because I managed to get in and out of a seemingly-unwinnable state by resetting while standing on a button. Faster movement might help a bit with the game feel, as sometimes you see a solution and it takes an unsatisfyingly long time to execute it.
Heavy squirrel stapler & Inscryption vibes from this one. Well executed, but I wouldn't have minded the game taking a bit longer to ramp up. Is there any ending besides dying once the sun goes down? I tried my best to stockpile food and wait it out but couldn't last. Edit: I downloaded the pre-patch version somehow :face_palm: it's way more balanced in 1.1. Still a little unclear to me if there's an ending though
Great art and mood, love the use of volumetric fog. The feeling when you see the faint purple glow in the distance is a mix of relief (found objective) and dread (oh god I've gotta go all the way out there). Lost a lot of tension once I died a few times and realized there were basically no consequences, though
the gnomes are real, i saw them with my own eyes
**๐ Readers added context they thought people might want to know**
According to The Ministry Of Truth, there have been 0 recorded gnome sightings to date. They are not real.
LOVED this game, fantastic art and music! Thank you for putting it on SoundCloud too! This one's gonna be up there in the rankings for sure
All around solid game but that mega rat is just something else! Really cool
It's always a good time to use planar reflections as a puzzle mechanic! Great vibes, great music, would have liked some sound effects. I handled the puzzles fine but I do feel like the fireflies impeded gameplay a bit by making it harder to tell if you got the right solution. There were a couple times I figured out the next step and didn't realize it because they were slow to move or didn't land on the exact right spot. Very solid vertical slice!
Absolutely love this art style! It really made everything feel cozy instead of spooky while exploring a dark house, which is no easy feat. I didn't realize the chandeliers had collision and got stuck for a little bit until I saw the comments here. The firefly mechanic was cool, but it didn't seem to impact gameplay much and I ended up just holding my left mouse button for most of the game.
Played this co-op. Loved the art and vibes, but we made a mistake trying to go for 100% at first. The way the sheep can walk outside the pen or even off the edge on their own was downright infuriating at times. Some levels the second dog only seemed useful to serve as an additional wall. With a couple minor tweaks, rebalanced levels, and more content, this honestly seems about Steam-ready. Very well done!
Lovely little game! I adore the "miniature" look of everything, great use of lighting to create scenic variety in a world made entirely out of cardboard
@tuism I think there are other ways of turning a window transparent which allow for alpha blending, but for the method we're using to wrangle Unity into supporting it, it's essentially acting like a chroma key effect - counting any pixel matching #FF00FF as purely transparent. So yeah, in this case the dither was our only option for blending with the desktop. As for on *everything*, like blending text over an opaque background panel, not necessary there, but changing the default shader was the easiest course of action, and it was just a gamejam concession. Looks kinda interesting in the end, can't tell if I love it or hate it.
Little update 1.1.0 while it's still before the deadline - merged a feature from a friend which saves partially-eaten food images back to the food folder. Their eating progress will now persist between game restarts, and you can also watch its thumbnail update in file explorer with the destruction. Thank you, @lulu-dev! Besides that, just a handful more faces and meows brought in to the project.
@rsheepdv It's supposed to just work, no setting, but it seems like there's some inconsistencies between systems :/ Guess that's what we get for trying to use the Windows API on the window created by Unity. Support seems all-around much spottier on Windows 11, if that's what you were using, but there's a few weird edge cases on 10 too.
@infernaton A shop would be a great feature for a post-jam version! Maybe a beach ball for them to bounce around your screen or something. The maximum in the jam version is 10 million, and they spawn in a special animation when you reach it. The technical limit with 1 compute buffer is around 59 million, but it was very laggy and required 2GB of VRAM up-front. Staggering updates is probably the first optimization I'd try if we were to increase the cap.
Very impressive! There's a lot to love here, great take on the theme, cool environments, and I gotta say the first-person arms and legs are incredible.
Very intriguing world, I wish it was expanded on more! Some more cohesiveness in controls would be nice, switching between shift, space, arrow keys, and mouse. Congratulations on your first game and jam!
Fun game, banger soundtrack, no mercy
