LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Plasimajita by steve 2018-04-27T22:40:00Z

I got pretty sucked into this. There was a fantastic progression from start to the "end", where you feel so weak at the start, but by the end the entire game map is covered in turrets and you literally don't even get a chance to see the enemies before they just turn straight into $$$. I would definitely love to see this expanded upon!

Idle Shooter by NicMagnier 2018-04-27T18:14:11Z

This was super addictive. I loved the little physics/effects on the money dropping, and the different tiers of money was especially satisfying. I love loved the little "bounce" that objects/enemies have when you hit them! My only nitpicks would be that the hit boxes on the enemies and cacti felt a little off, and I would've liked to have seen a walking animation or something on the player! Overall, great entry though.

Cocaine McBain - A Farm Rush Adventure by Goat Toaster Games 2018-04-27T00:57:51Z

Loved the pixel art in this. Super charming! One thing I found that was a little exploitable, was the fact that I could just tap [A] and [D] at the same time whenever a crop/animal came up and it would still work! Other than that, a solid little endless runner.

You Can't Dodge Your Feelings! by Autumnotopia 2018-04-28T18:46:20Z

This was super cute! This game definitely won me over with its charm. Its a minor thing, but I dug that you can dodge/jump at any time. It made the whole VN aspect of the game feel more dynamic. Great entry!

CCC: Cyber City CAB by Yetman 2018-04-28T00:32:08Z

I really dug the graphics and music. It had a really solid atmosphere, and from what I played, the core loop felt really sound. My only issue is that the camera rotation was really disorienting and made me feel a little motion-sick! :( Which is a shame because I was quite enjoying what I was playing.

Danmakoïd - Bullet hell metroidvania by Talops 2018-04-27T15:18:55Z

The graphics were really simple and great. I liked the idea of a bullet-hell metroidvania! The rooms felt more like navigating little micro-puzzles which was a cool feeling.

Don't look at Greg by hankworx 2018-04-27T00:24:53Z

This game is weird as heck, and I loved it. The 2D character designs were really cute, and I liked how they contrasted with the 3D environments. Walking into the Orchard for the first time, and seeing all the Gregs slowly start to creep into the environment... brilliant. Great entry!

Beet Boy by Ryan Bishop 2018-04-27T00:51:10Z

I really dug how the inventory works! The graphics were really cute, and the platforming felt really nice (heck yeah wall jumping). Unfortunately I ran into a game breaking bug where, after dying, the game seemed to get caught in a loop of endlessly respawning me!

Rhythm and Cruise by DigNZ 2018-04-27T03:06:32Z

This was really cool! Having to control the boat while paying attention to the arrow keys was really challenging, and fun! I would love to see this expanded upon.

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-26T19:33:29Z

@Ale I totally agree with you on the movement. In general, there was an extra bit of polish to the game that I unfortunately didn't have the time to get to. Thanks for playing though, it seems like you still had fun despite the game's flaws! :)

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-26T19:37:08Z

@designernap Thanks for playing! :) I would've liked to have added a few more ambient sounds, but I'm glad you still found the atmosphere effective.

@Balance686 Ouch, that's a pretty nasty bug I wasn't aware of. Thanks for pointing that out! Glad you enjoyed it though :)

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-26T23:46:13Z

@Atelier Duchu Totally. I literally started working on a creepy song an hour before submission time, but I just wasn't able to pump out a song in time. Thanks for playing though! :)

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-27T02:10:30Z

@Articulated9 Oh I am absolutely working on a "fixed up" version of the game actually! Unfortunately I haven't quite found the time to make a lot of progress after work, but hopefully an updated version will be up soon-ish. Thanks for playing! :)

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-27T14:59:27Z

@Jonathan Daar Totally fair! Players being confused about what to do was a concern of mine when I submitted this thing. The character with the 8 hit points is actually a character you're supposed to save! You're supposed to lead them back to the beginning of the level, where there's that "Rescue Point" circle thing. I'm hoping to update the game at a later point, and make this a bit more clear. Thanks for playing though! :)

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-30T00:21:07Z

@Autumnotopia Thanks so much for the feedback! That unintentional reference to Noroi is hilarious though, because I really like that movie. It's been a few years since I've seen it, so it wasn't on my mind when I made the character designs, but it makes me like the character designs more haha. Thanks for playing!

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-30T00:22:32Z

@Jonathan Lorenz A charge attack was actually originally planned, but I was short on time and having a bit of trouble getting it to feel good :( Glad you had fun though!!

SCARE-CADE by lum 2018-04-30T00:29:34Z

@Goat Toaster Games Haha I'm glad you loved the tutorial room, because that's actually the part of the game I super rushed, and I was worried it would turn off most players! As for the controls, I totally agree with you on there being too much friction when walking. That was something I didn't quite have the time to fix up, BUT a fix for it will be coming in an update soon! :) The slow attack is something I'm still sort of on the fence about; I quite like slower paced games -- and I felt it at least forced the player to think a bit more about their attacks, but I can understand your frustration. I think a big contributor to that frustration might be the fact that enemies take 6 hits to kill; it's a little much. That's something I reduced in an updated version which should be up in the next few days!

I'm glad you enjoyed the game though!! :)

Gardening Sim 2019 by shp 2018-04-26T19:48:45Z

I loved the lo-fi 3D graphics. You really nailed a creepy mood with this one!
