Don't' Let The Zombies Escape by Luis_Antonio327 2016-12-12T09:10:00

Gameplay was OK, except pressing K didn't seem to throw any grenades. Not that I needed them--it seemed a winning but fairly boring strategy was: stay in the upper left corner and keep shooting. A few minutes later and you're still doing that...seems it would go on forever...

Second playthrough I got the grenade near the door, but couldn't seem to throw it. After that, my health wouldn't go down, and actually I went through the door on the bottom of the room, into a white area. I could go in or out and would blink as if taking damage but my health was stuck at 2/4. More zombies kept coming, game didn't seem to end.

You didn't put Mood as a category but, in my opinion, that's maybe the game's strongest aspect. The music and lighting and graphics combined well. Also I thought your description was funny :)

I also discovered I could walk up to the top of the top wall and the zombies would follow me there. Seems fairly buggy and also doesn't seem to fit the title--the zombies always go after you, so they never escape...

Soap by sn0uk 2016-12-12T06:45:00

I couldn't figure this out. I didn't see many in-game hints (unless you mean before the game starts, looking at the input tab?) except the first one. I managed to figure out how to switch between the characters, but then I couldn't control any except the first character.

The camera was really jumpy even when you're not moving and not near anything. The music I found really grating, but it did fit the tone of the description (urgency.)

I like the idea, and the LD mat was a nice touch. I could not even get as high as the mat though, stuck at 0 trampolines, no idea what that's about...grappling hook mentioned but no idea how to use it, tried many keys as each of the chars. Could not see find anything beyond running on the floor. Cool running anim though. I like how the spotlight re-adds itself every few steps.

Elephant in "The Room" by xesenix 2016-12-12T09:16:00

Doesn't finish loading, Firefox on win7x64. A green bar appears after a couple seconds, and grows to about 1/3 the width of the black box it's in, then stops forever.

Elephant in "The Room" by xesenix 2016-12-14T19:11:00

Works now, thanks for fixing. I found it pretty funny even though I don't know the original reference. The music really fit well. Could have used some sfx though. Not very challenging / engaging beyond that, but I liked the elephant cutout anim.

Ramenfly by Avocadosan 2016-12-12T07:34:00

Funny and fun style, and relate-able sub-theme. Great first. Hint to other players, for extra challenge use a Dvorak layout ;) still got 57 kills though. Nice music, fits the game well, and funny sfx and writing.

Help Wanted! by TeamBALD 2016-12-15T13:37:00

Sys reqs would be nice. Even with all other programs closed, on my machine with 4 GB RAM I'm told I don't have enough memory, so I can't play. Maybe make the resolution adjustable?

Fisherman Bob's Happy Cabin by JoeYoshi 2016-12-14T19:25:00

Nice art and fitting music. I could barely run the thing though, it crashed after pressing space to start--tried again without Firefox running and it worked, reason being it takes 1.4 GB of memory up while running. At 1080 it was very laggy visually and the controls were tough to use. It was funny though and I like the creative interpretation of the theme. I didn't really get what to do besides go to the windows to chase foxes away and refill the generator--maybe because the lag was distracting but the tips at the beginning seemed to go by too fast, they could probably be spaced out a bit. Anyway, zany, and overall I like the art style and the music although it got oddly repetitive pretty quickly.

An ordinary room? by Elastiskalinjen 2016-12-11T21:15:00

LOL, I loved the writing :) Even the cherries...you could add some cherries and then you have a great pun :)

oneroom by cyfixus 2016-12-12T07:13:00

This looks like it might be a fun puzzle game, but I have no idea what the pattern is. Apparently you are supposed to click the panels and I guess the goal is a high score. I got anywhere from -13 to 19 points, but it seems random as to what gives you points and what disappears when you click the panels. It at least partly is random in that clicking the same starting panel each time will do something different.

A bit of a hint (or at least the option of one) would be a nice feature, I think.

One room to another by arputikos 2016-12-23T10:24:00

I like this one! Once you got into a rhythm it was doable. Also liked the behaviour that landing near the edge of a platform, you could continue to stay on it only by running toward the platform--that forces you to jump from there or fall, but you get a moment to think about it. Stick figure anims were great. Slippery physics were tricky. Even with the 1.05 though there seemed a bit of a cruel bug, if you went through the door at the end of the level, it gives you one menu, then you go to use the mouse, and your character has apparently continued to run off the screen, so the menu suddenly changes to "you lose" even though you had already won. So it's not a safe win. But, that is made OK by the fact that you can just go to the starting menu and pick the next level. :)

Cool stuff. Why get rated in the audio category though? I didn't hear any...

INF by jack-lance 2016-12-12T07:02:00

Fun and innovative! Also trippy. Some flashing glitches on the rotating levels, but other than that, very smoothly executed. Very cool use of the theme. Audio was fine and not annoying, but could use some music for sure. I agree with @fishbrain, this can go places :) This is totally my favourite so far. Easy to pick up and hard to master.

Crazy Factory by x1212 2016-12-13T09:57:00

@leddkire I found the fullscreen mode made the JavaScript exception indicator go away. With the size of the in-page window here you have to scroll before you can see the fullscreen button.

Fun idea! Loved the music. First track reminded me of Lemmings, which fit really well.

I couldn't seem to score any points though, and the machines kept disappearing after doing 1-2 conversions. The mechanic was unfortunately finicky feeling, maybe I just need to see it in action but it seemed I could either pick having a conveyor belt under a resource or a machine near it, but doing both just made the machine keep disappearing, and trying to put it back would only rotate the conveyor instead. I wonder if a separate control for rotating vs placing would be handier.

The 5th Room by ahmedmohi 2016-12-15T07:25:00

Worked well, made it to the end. Nice fire. :) The music set the perfect mood and the newspapers were creepy if a little grammatically incorrect. Curious who left the note and more about the back story if there is any :)

The 5th Room by ahmedmohi 2016-12-15T07:27:00

Oh yeah one glitch I found was the pointing area that allowed you to interact was both small (tricky to target on my slowish system--sometimes took several tries) and also didn't seem to really line up with the item I was interacting with. E.g. the garbage can by the notepad, I had to aim far left of the centre of the can to target it.

Room Blitz by ohmmus 2016-12-15T13:44:00

Fun game! Time seems a bit random, sometimes it's way more than enough, others it runs out half way through even if you hold down D the whole time. Played through the room 5-6 times, not bad for what it is. Running animation is a bit funny when pressing A and could use some music though, but I like the classic style of graphics and sound.

Team Therapy by Catwheel 2016-12-12T07:24:00

Lower resolutions cut off the menu buttons (I chose a lower one to try the two-window thing.) Looks like the minimum is probably 800x600.

Hilarious description and in-game writing. :)

Two windows connected fine, presumably through the Churchill-approved Internet.

I could not figure out the first exercise though. When red pushes 1, you get 1, but anything else seems to reset to 0. Also sometimes you press a button and there's no sound.

Nice music, good variety.

SANTA'S ONE ROOM by cjke.7777 2016-12-12T09:34:00

Fun game! Nice polish too, and music. One thing I would change is make the controls all on one hand--up for jump and down for encourage, at least optionally. I like the slapstick execution of Santa's "encouragement" and also the production animation.

A bank is a dangerous place by JK5000 2016-12-12T09:28:00

I didn't think my laptop was SO bad, but after putting up with the UE4 prereq installer for 5 minutes, I was then told I didn't have enough video memory. System requirements might be nice to include...

My Room by REIN1 2016-12-15T15:51:00

The top label is cut off at 1920x1080.

I'm not sure what you're supposed to do here. After two lines of story (which for such a genre should probably have better grammar), you're presented with a button hierarchy, but every leaf node does nothing whatsoever. Not much of a game. I guess it's really about one room, but...am I missing something?

Community Bored by Bored 2016-12-12T09:47:00

Nice presentation. The mechanics seem to lack a bit of polish and the story only has two player choices, but it was interesting to read the text anyway. It'd be nice if on repeat playthroughs you can make the text appear faster or skip it, and make it respond to mouse clicks a bit better (maybe a mouseover visual so you know you're clicking the right spot.) I like how no matter what the board says they're wrong, that certainly made the music fit the mood created by that.

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T09:27:00

Solid iteration to PD! Good idea IMO capitalizing on the theme this way. I enjoyed the addition of the writing, and the humor's not bad. The mood made by the music and sfx is great but doesn't quite match the writing, unless it's meant to be a kind of zen shield against the corporate culture or something. I think I encountered a bug, though (or if not I don't understand what's going on): https://postimg.org/image/giosin1m1/

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T09:42:00

Oh, that was before your update 6 hours ago...

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T09:59:00

Ah, thanks for the clarification :)

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T09:59:00

BTW I miss the PD feature of saving your layout :)

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T10:01:00

Now I see what you mean with the dispenser. That's funny, I had seen and avoided that in the first two levels, not sure how it skipped my mind after that...:)

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T10:04:00

BTW some changes from PD that I liked are: ability to play with just the mouse by rotating on click (unless I just didn't notice that in PD), and the shift button for speed feels much nicer.

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-13T10:05:00

One suggestion, upon completion of a level it would make sense when bringing up the mail screen to automatically go to the next one.

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-15T07:02:00

Sorry to say, there seems to be a bit of an intermittent bug with the "hold shift to speed up" feature.

https://postimg.org/image/lamivxp01/

This animated gif shows a bug. Four attempts with the same layout are shown:

1 & 2: hold shift the whole time--crashes right at the end

3: hold shift and let go after a moment--crashes right when I let go

4: don't touch shift--beat the level

Similar thing happened on the next level, but I didn't bother to recreate the layout, hopefully you can see well enough. In this case though it was more like case 3 above, and holding shift the entire time actually made it pass.

PS I found the second-last level insane enough ( https://twitter.com/wastheWordGame/status/809284350806212609 ) so I think I'm going to take some breathers before attempting the last one :)

Storage by Steven Miller 2016-12-15T13:21:00

Glad to help, thanks for fixing the bug! I must say, the solution to the last level that you have on the itch.io page is way more elegant than what I came up with. But I was happy to finish it somehow--I started over 3-4 times before getting it to work.

Ha! Also the second-last level! Nice!

Nyankolor: SoulStrokes by parias001 2016-12-15T15:46:00

Very nice game! Pretty fun to play, even single-player and with a keyboard. Not sure if the AI is supposed to get harder with each opponent, but it didn't seem to...after a while the same strategy seemed to always work. Frenetic gameplay keeps you on your toes! Good music, sfx, and gfx too!

Geometry Encounters by hlavik211 2016-12-15T15:33:00

I love the soft edges of the art, very nice style. As others have said, a reset button or something for when you die would be good; sometimes you seem to go off-screen, but sometimes you just disappear from being shot so maybe that's it. I managed to beat the game, the controls are pretty difficult, but they fit the mood of a space sim better IMO than the average asteroids clone. Anyway aside from a bit of usability improvements this is a great start, keep having fun with such projects. :)

Room Crafter by Thirrash 2016-12-15T16:02:00

Nice walking simulator. Couldn't really figure out how to make any furniture. The only objects that seemed to interact were rocks, and after many clicks they'd just jump some distance away. Then the sun set, after only a minute or so. Nice world and art but a bit more help would help. Also very slow at 1920x1080 on my laptop, had to play 640x480 but then the mouse was way too insensitive. Also if you look up or down too far, it wraps around, which is odd I think. I like where you went with the theme, though.

Roomescape by Minemes 2016-12-15T07:36:00

Firstly thank you for naming your zip after the game's title. (A lot of people seem to call theirs generically like 'build' and it gets confusing if I ever want to play again...)

I like the QR usage and the art by the fireplace. Some music would help set the tone, but it was a fun and quick puzzle.

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-12T05:10:00

Thanks for your comments! For some reason I personally hate playing FPSes without mouse inversion, hence...but I'm sorry it soured the experience for all of you! Do you think it's a "bug" enough to change after the deadline now, or is it a more of a feature?

Anyway I'm glad you had fun @Miotis and thanks for the props @Falkreon, it was a bit unexpectedly a grueling weekend so I appreciate that!

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-12T06:04:00

@JD557 OK fixed :)

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-12T09:50:00

Thanks for your comments Tuism, indeed that was the intent, and glad I got a laugh out of someone :)

Yes, a counter would have made sense. You do get one if you quit early, but that's not the same. The reach I made that way so that you did have to crouch if one landed under the table. Throwing the cards would have been fun too, good idea :)

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-13T09:39:00

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I appreciate the Godot-3D-specific ones...if I did anything interesting hopefully there's something of use to you in the source (I didn't retract it even though I disqualified from the compo by accident.)

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-13T15:14:00

Did you try the latest, @Anti? The default is now non-inverted (mouse forward = up), but if you press the "I" key it will toggle it. Thanks for the props :)

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-14T18:28:00

@bradur you're the third to say that about the last card. I admire all of your perseverance! I guess a feature that highlights the uncollected cards somehow would be in order :)

@aemiliu5 Hah! Thanks, but I was intentionally going for something a bit elevator muzak-y to fit the parody. I wish there was a clip around somewhere of the original ad from You Don't Know Jack to add a bit of context, it was really hilarious...

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-15T07:50:00

@aemiliu5 and @Tuism if you read this check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTBBRcUIEEI at the 1:12:47 mark to know what I had in mind. :)

Thanks @Palarus =)

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-15T16:05:00

@Mr.Chippy thanks, I know, isn't it totally rad and leave you wishing I'd implemented multiplayer? No? Too far? OK anyway thanks I'm glad you had fun and thanks also for reporting about the card in the couch. I'd tried to adjust the physics so that wasn't possible, but I guess it still sometimes is! Good to know...

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-19T15:19:00

Thanks @TeamBALD, I had the idea a while ago and was hoping a fitting theme would come up so I could do it some time and learn Godot in the process. Anyway, if you read this would you post your system specs? I considered my machine fairly low-end for gaming, and it performed OK; on a 32-bit old netbook with 1 GB RAM running Linux, I experienced similar slowdown issues to what you described, but that's true of just about any game on that box--even the 2D cutscenes in Defender's Quest, for example, are pretty sluggish on that one. I think it's to do with the playing cards being in frame, hence the ceiling being a smoother spot to look at.

Thanks for the suggestions & encouragement =) If you want to follow me on Twitter @wastheWordGame I'll post there about any new games I make.

52-Card Pickup 2000 by KJB of IBwWG 2016-12-27T14:50:00

@aaaleee thanks for playing, glad to hear it worked on OS/X and thanks for your compliments. To clarify, this game (and the classic IRL version) has one simple rule: pick up *all* the cards. That's why it's a joke to make a virtual version of it, the IRL version is already a joke, and so was the skit in You Don't Know Jack. :)

The Last Room by ncannasse 2016-12-14T18:53:00

Wow! The sounds got to me right away, but they completely fit the dark and trippy mood. This is a work of art, even if I don't appreciate the blood much personally :) The ending was pretty funny too, and I liked the text when you delete the cat. The last part was pretty challenging (and a bit annoying to retype repeatedly, but I'll take that over restarting the whole thing, any day!) but you hooked me enough that I stuck the final scene through 10+ times until I got out.

@Lythom I tried to get around the sideways console with that old Ctrl+Alt+arrow trick in Windows but for some reason today it did not want to work. Sideways it was. Reminded me of my friend's dad having to tilt his head to read the "book" titles (a "user friendly" way of organizing and launching your apps, within Win3.1 I think) on their new Acer computer...
