LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Recursio by loyance 2021-05-08T03:18:59Z

Funny, I had a similar idea for the jam :^)

I wasn't a fan of critters dying when they go into the edge, especially with the larger count. It just made things feel overwhelming and I had to spend way too much time looking at each of them. Either a wrap-around grid or just not letting things go past the edge would have felt fine.

Graphics and audio were simple but pleasant. I really liked the victory/credits screen :^)

Innovation-wise, you combined the "drag and drop the world" mechanics with the "you control everything" mechanics. I hadn't read the controls, so it was an enjoyable discovery. I was taking so long on the last level that my spectating girlfriend decided to steer the wheel and take over, she especially enjoyed it!

Ultimately I quite enjoyed the game. Maybe investing time into procedural generation would have been nice to keep the game going.

Voyager by Jesús González 2021-04-27T04:10:28Z

I disliked the popping sound, it was harsh on the ears, I think you were going for a Geiger counter effect? Past that, I feel the game would have been more pleasant with a smaller UI, namely the ability to see the Voyager. I didn't play too long because it felt like the same thing over and over, but I like the idea of controlling the Voyager through space, very FTL-like, just like you were going for. Nice thematic retro appearance, too. I hope to see you in LD49, cheers.

Stolen Time by loginaut 2021-04-27T03:09:00Z

I love the fields. Very nice. Music was also simple, but nostalgic (OSRS feels). I tried talking to the NPC but nothing seemed to happen. Lovely nostalgia though, hope to see you in LD49, cheers.

The old school graphics and playstyle were nice, points off for using pre-existing assets, though.

I would have liked to be able to see more blocks ahead of me, those sharp turns were difficult. I couldn't beat the game, in fact :slight_frown: Maybe a difficulty setting relating to speed/view distance would work?

It was a refreshing experience, though. I liked it! Hope to see you in LD49, cheers.

Eldritch Depths by simex 2021-04-28T00:53:14Z

Pretty fun. My only real complaint was the sound, the 8-bit bullets + the rock music didn't pair well in my opinion. Fun game all around though. I hope to see you in LD49, cheers.

I can only imagine the hell that was programming this gem.

I might be biased because I LOVE detective games, but I really, *really* enjoyed this! It brought back a lot of memories of playing these types of games, I think you got the aesthetic, mechanics, and mood spot-on.

I was really impressed by how well this flowed and overall made sense, considering how (literally) tangled everything was, and considering the time restraints. Everything important to the gameplay was really well done and quite comprehensive, e.g. the evidence connecting mechanic, the evidence you've already connected graying out (though it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realise why it was doing that, oops), and so on. Being able to click through text was very appreciated!

The art was overall very nice. Great character designs and color palette! I enjoyed the typeface used for dialogue, though a few letters were a bit busy (the "c"s were especially curly, I think?). I came across the music glitch as well, crackling occurred, but only when I moved my mouse...very strange, but music was appropriately atmospheric ignoring that.

I was so thrilled while playing this game and connecting the evidence, and even more excited when I got the ending choices. I was so absorbed that I didn't noticed the graying-out mechanic as mentioned earlier, I think that speaks to how well it worked! Very nice!

Out of curiosity, have you played [Cultist Simulator](https://store.steampowered.com/app/718670/Cultist_Simulator/)? I was reminded of that as I played your game, I really enjoy the mechanic of dragging elements/evidence together and I hope to see it in more fully fledged games in the future.

Thank you for making this, it was truly enjoyable and truly impressive! Good luck, and we hope to see you in Ludum Dare 49!

Nice. Love the graphics. I remember lots of games with tracing elements on the DS, this game reminds me of that, but in a modern horror vibe of course. Penis reference broke the mood, though :( I hope to see you again in LD 49, cheers.

Inferno Dominus by Klyaddus 2021-04-27T02:25:33Z

Digging the graphics. I wish there would at least be a scoring system or something involving hitting enemies with the flamethrower on a time limit. I hope you participate in LD49, cheers.

Go to Heck 💀 by Chris Dirkis 2021-04-27T04:39:10Z

I would have liked to have heard a sound effect when you hit an enemy and kill an enemy. Preferably particles, too, but sound is more important. I wasn't sure what the upgrades did, but I liked the one that made you shoot faster I think. I love the grappling hook! More games need grappling hooks. The game felt very hard before I got the speed powerup, I would have appreciated the starter enemies being slower and having less health, or the player being faster and being more impacted by the raygun knockback. Fun game all around. I hope to see you in LD49, cheers.

Deepest Point by 7Mar 2021-04-27T23:33:09Z

I got to wave 60 just to see if anything changed, like different colors or something. Instead I got some interesting shapes. The graphics were minimal, and the audio quality was pretty bad (my headset was peaking constantly). It's a tried-and-true game format, though, so it's probably fun for a good chunk of people, but not so much for me.

Deem by AdamPhoebe 2021-04-27T03:50:51Z

I think this is supposed to be a sandbox game? Although the only interesting thing I found was sign, but I couldn't figure out how to read it, and eventually destroyed it by accident. It's great that you're picking the game back up in development, but I hope your code is starting fresh, Ludum Dare code is always horrible :^) I hope to see you back in LD49, cheers.

Palette's Bottomless Backpack by CeltiCo 2021-05-19T00:51:43Z

Thank you everyone for playing and enjoying the restaurant. We had such a fun time... and got some pretty high scores! For a first ludum-dare, and a first game... thanks for enjoying it. I checked out each of your games as well and you guys did awesome likewise. I hope to see each of you in LD49, cheers.

Cyber Monsters by liero116 2021-05-08T02:47:32Z

Game seemed nice, but I was unable to play due to controller requirement. There *were* keyboard controls, but "G to start" didn't feel right, was it debugged with a non-QWERT-keyboard? I also felt that using a pre-built combat engine was far away from the LD spirit, so I took points off of Innovation. From the trailer, the game looks AMAZING (loving the shaders and lighting) and sounds alright, but I don't see at all how it applies to the theme.

In short, looks like you guys did pretty well, but this feels like a game made for some jam that isn't LD.

Hope to see you in LD49, cheers.
