Very cool little game :) I loved the old-school atmosphere of the game!
Hey Rasmus :) Thanks for the great weekend, hope we didn't scare you too much haha ;) Anyways, really like the whole concept, has a lot of potential. I like the final feel of the game. It feels smooth and very dynamic; clean too. Great job! Good luck in the competition.
Very interesting concept :) There's a lot of potential in this game I think, I had fun playing it. The whole dehydration concept works very nicely as a game mechanic, and so does using your own weapon as movement enchancement. Unfortunately, like what ShellfishGames said, it can be frustrating when you accidentally click outside the window since the game is running in windowed mode. All in all though, very nice demonstration of the concept.
No doubt a really interesting and unique take on the theme. The audio and graphics were really good, and gave an extremely good atmosphere.
When it came to the actual game-play I'm not really sure. As another user commented, I tried without the spoilers first, but was at an absolute loss as to what to do. Tried a few different things and none seemed to work. After reading the spoilers and trying again I did get things to appear, and tried to stand closer to them while channeling to get more things to appear. Then I got stuck at which object I should stand nearest to next and quickly lost interest unfortunately :( It felt like guesswork and was not very interactive as such.
But again, the atmosphere was really great and immersive, and I loved the art style :) So at any rate, you did a great job.
Just to add to my last comment, I think I lost interest because I felt it became a chore to wait 10 seconds before I could attempt again :) When the objective was not all that clear to begin with, it felt sort of annoying having to wait around 10 seconds before I could try again.
Don't mean to sound harsh by the way, just want to give some constructive criticism :)
Game was quite a bit too fast for me, it felt very luck based and I didn't feel like there was much I could do other than simply run around and hope I wouldn't get hit, because everything moved so fast it was hard to really get an overview.
The defense drones didn't really seem all that effective either.
So, my two primary concerns were difficulty and the main objective of the game not really feeling as important as it should.
Bullets were also very hard to see, and because I tried to focus so much on avoiding enemies, I didn't feel I even had enough time to try and aim the places I wanted to.
Besides this, the pixel art is very colorful :) And I also like the small history-driven intro to the game, that little story could spark some interesting ideas.
This is all just my own personal opinion though, and I don't mean to sound harsh at all. Just wanted to give some constructive criticism :) Good job on finishing an entry and good luck in the competition!
Very addictive little game :) Really enjoyed it! The graphics were cute and the sounds matched, gave a great retro atmosphere. Always wanted to try and beat my last score. Good job!
Very awesome :) Really enjoyed the concept and the difficulty.
Completed the game :) I enjoyed it quite a bit. The game had a very cool fast-paced feeling to it and was very smooth and responsive. Also, the feel of the sword swinging was excellent! The runs could get quite intensive at times, and I feel there's much potential for making more puzzle-like action scenarios within the levels.
I do have one complaint when it comes to the controls though. The collision of the sword hitting enemies felt a bit off and random at times. Sometimes I didn't hit the enemies at all when I felt it should have, so that did cause a bit of frustration on the levels with a lot of enemies.
Another thing I found fun was the seemingly mix of feelings I got them the menu of the game versus the gameplay. The menu had a very sort of dark and horror-like music and graphical style going, while the actual gameplay seemed more colorful and the music more action-packed. Not really a criticism, just a note I found to be quite funny :)
All in all though, the game was very enjoyable. Good job!
Hey there ShellfishGames! Just saw you checked out my game, it's much appreciated! Funny thing, I actually found your game through the TGC Forums, I was sure I had already rated it but I see now that I did not. So here I am!
I really love the game, it has a great atmosphere, though the most intriguing part of it for me was the whole theme and story, was very surrealistic and mysterious, kept me all the way through and I think the theme was very well implemented. Good job!
I really like the overall idea of the game. There's some fun scenarios and the act of completing them is very fun. The graphical style and sound goes well with it, and it feels sort of fast-paced.
The only real problem I had with this game I think lies in the fact that you need to complete as many scenarios as possible in 10 seconds. The idea is pretty fun, sort of a speed-run kind of thing, complete as much in 10 seconds as you can. Though I'm not sure how well it works with only 10 seconds. Let me elaborate :)
When it comes to these sort of games, I can get very competitive with myself (So good job on that part! You got me to want to do better each run). Unfortunately, most of the time I was kind of frustrated because I felt a lot of my time is wasted either having to read the scenario text of what to do (if it's a new one), or if I've already done the scenario having to establish what to do again. Having to go through these processes so quickly within one 10 second play I feel is pushing it, as most of the time I really worried mostly about understanding the scenario than I did trying to complete it as fast as I can, since it feels in 10 seconds every single thought counts.
Besides the timed aspect, I feel the game idea could have much potential for becoming a bigger game. It is great fun flying around doing the objectives, though perhaps with those kind of complex scenarios, perhaps it would work better with having 10 second scenarios than trying to force as many scenarios into 10 seconds as possible :)
@Diogo: Heh, yeah I figured you guys had a good reason for doing it the way you did. At any rate, you did accomplish what you sought to do. I got very competitive with myself and always tried to beat my last score :) Online leaderboards would be awesome.
Got all the way to the end :) I really like the atmosphere of the game, great job on the audio. The visuals were also very nice, and a fun little sketchy animation for Richard :)
The text coming down was a nice touch too, actually excited me/worried me when something bad was written (such as being scared of something ahead or knowing it was the last room).
Absolutley fantastic game! The visual presentation is amazing, that style of graphic is very awesome, well, you executed it brilliantly! I won't spoil too much for others, but the way you incorporated the 10 second play into one of the endings was absolutely brilliant. I also got drawn very much into the world, and the story became intriguing and had mystery to it :) Nice job!
Overall a really nice little game :) Could get quite intense trying to reach the goals and seeing the time slowly run out as you're trying to make out the path :D Also, cool touch with the random generated levels, very nice job :)
Hey there :) Must say I was really impressed by this game! The graphical style and audio is wonderful, leaving a great atmosphere. The overall experience felt really polished, you did a great job!
The gameplay mechanics might not be new or innovative, but they work and the game is great fun. I also like how you can be strategic about the first weapon, grouping enemies together to damage more enemies with a single shot :) Small cool details like that makes for a good game. Enjoyed the unlockables too :)
One small thing, I noticed that pressing q seems to enable some sort of debug screen for colliders or something, you get this overlay of red and green squares. Just a small detail :)
Great job! Good luck with the competition :)
Very cute game :) I liked the whole idea behind it! Was able to win the game too ;) I loved the retro feel the game gave me :) Good job!
As a small note, I'm sure this had to do with the time limit of the competition, but if you plan on developing the idea further then balancing should be a primary focus :) Make the combat somehow more varied so there's more jumping/gunning and running around when fighting for a zone :) I think adding those kind of dynamics would help the whole objective of capturing the zone :)
Very nice little game :) Smooth controls and cool level generation. Good luck!
Very great little game :) I liked the concept and how vision can appear to alter your perception of time. Very interesting idea and a great use of the theme! Good job :)
Really love this concept actually! Very fun and quite different. The audible concept is very interesting too. I also like the details you put in game over, when the player avatar becomes a creature of the night ;) I did get to complete the game :)
I like the concept of it :) Unfortunately I don't think the execution of it was all that great.
My primary frustration was the controls, which I think kind of ruined it. They aren't precise enough for the precision asked for by the player. It's too floaty and not "sharp" enough. The most frustrating part of it was that the player falls extremely slowly relative to the spikes. I feel that mostly when I went to jump onto a spike, they would simply all fall to the ground before I had a chance to land on any, because they seem to fall faster than the player. I feel a simple tweak to make the player fall faster could do a lot for the game :)
But again, I really like the concept and think it has potential, very good job! Good luck in the competition.
Very cool game, gets very intense towards the later levels, having to spot the target :)
The idea is good and there's some good tight controls in the game, has a lot of potential :) But as many others I had to give up sooner or later haha, it's a very difficult game :D
@Jayjay: Thanks for checking out the game mate! ;) Haha yeah gets sort of intense at times when you watch it slowly die :P
@Sgehlich: That's weird... what platform did you try to run it on? I'll try to have a look at it then :) Thank you for trying it out though! I'm sorry about the error :(
@carlsommer: Thank you for the feedback! It is very much appreciated! About the controls, yeah it's a fun one that one. Some people prefer shooting in the direction you are simply facing, others do not. The reason I do not like that one is because I feel restricted in movement, if I want to be able to move about while keeping firing in one direction. I guess that is one of the "each to his own" things :) Though I could definitely attempt to implement control modes in a settings menu should I take this further.
@kevinAlbs and Atmospherium: Thank you both for the nice comments :) Thanks a lot for playing my entry!
wow, thank you all for the comments and feedback! I really appreciate anyone who takes time to try out my entry :) It's an honor.
@randomelginguy: I agree with you, the moving part was unfortunately mostly due to inexperience with the Unity engine. I didn't have enough time to correct it.
@ananasblau: That would be some good ideas actually... :D
And thank you all for playing!
Thank you for all the comments everyone!
@Rasmus: haha yeah indeed, didn't have much time for balancing :) Hopefully next time! ;) Thank you for playing!
@zillix: Thank you :) I'm glad you liked the effects!
@TobiasW: First of all, thank you so much for taking time to play my game :) Much appreciated. Thank you for the tip of the music generator, I will definitely be checking it out. This was my first entry so I was not familiar with these sorts of automatic content generators. Thank you!
@shard123: Thank you so much :) Thanks for playing my entry!
And again, thank you to everyone who used some of their time to play my game! It means a lot :)
Couldn't get it to run on Windows 8. When I attempt to open the executable, nothing further happens.
The concept is really nice, has potential :) Especially if it was to become level based. I completed the game two times in one session, and on the end of completing the second time, the game crashed.
I get the same error as "xfxian", on Windows 8 and getting a "This app can't run on your PC".
Quite liked the game :) Very surrealistic idea :D The bullets looked quite big though :) But very good job nonetheless! Keep it up!
Hey D-e-X :) I tried downloading and running the jar on windows, but I get the same problem as "archaeometrician", just a blank window where nothing happens.
Also, check out the rules regarding to the wrong version. I think you should be allowed to upload a new one to fix those kind of problems. But check the rules just to be sure :)
Very cute little game :) I liked the humor of it, and the sound effects added a very nice funny atmosphere to the game. I had fun playing it.
When it comes to the controls, I think I understand the idea you went with when it came to the jump/fly combination of spacebar. So that you could jump around the platforms to collect fuel without using any. Correct me if I'm wrong though :) At any rate, while the idea is good and seems simple, I actually felt they were awkward most of the time. It felt confusing to juggle between jumping and jump and then fly while having to focus on the other objective of the game, steering around plants, shooting them, etc.
