LD55 — Summoning

Sheep Tunes by kazuo256 2024-04-20T16:38:17Z

A really innovative, fun take on the theme! The game feels super chill and cosy, wonderful sound design and art, very polished and cohesive altogether. I liked the mechanic, and the variations in sheep/cards were definitely enough to keep the player's interest without becoming repetitive.

I love the game's itch page also - it's simple/minimalistic and cute, almost like a wallpaper in a kid's bedroom.

Big fan of this entry!

Summoning the Gienie by ajpl 2024-04-28T01:34:14Z

Fun idea, funny writing, and charming atmosphere! The music was lovely.

C.R.T. - Companion Recall Technology by AffinityChris 2024-04-17T17:59:02Z

I love the art/character designs in this one! Has a lot of charm and personality to it. Really pleasant colour scheme, too. Vertical jumps felt a bit tricky at times bc of the controls, but the level design is fun, and I like the gimmick of swapping companions.

Beautiful audio and visual design! I loved the summoning animations - very atmospheric entry altogether.

Blort's Big Adventure by koboldskeep 2024-05-04T18:29:18Z

Absolutely in love with the sound design in this one - the death SFX was so charming! Overall very fun platformer, with just the right level of challenge.

Mage Summoner on Royal Duel by TentacleDream 2024-05-03T13:18:23Z

The learning curve felt a little steep at first, and the tutorial information could be delivered in smaller chunks, but I had lots of fun with the mechanics!! The summoning entities look adorable - I'm an especially big fan of the slime.

Very creative way to handle the theme - it's simple and immersive, and an interesting take on a rhythm game! I loved the atmosphere, beautiful sounds + visuals.

One Hell of a Maid by ottos 2024-04-16T18:52:14Z

Cute and unsettling! I liked the environment, and the protagonist's sprite is expressive and a joy to look at (and so is the game's cover art!) The radio-smashing sequence was well-presented also, great visuals and timing. I might have unfortunately encountered a game-breaking bug: error.jpg After you clean up the environment behind the bathtub, you get locked in place, and can't progress the story. Tried it a few times from different angles - stuck all the same ):

Fun!! The presentation is impeccable, I love how stylish and cohesive the art/fonts/UI look. The sound design is also sick, very high-energy, and the game has a unique atmosphere to it. My only complaint is that the summoning/picking mini-game doesn't feel as interesting/interactive as the button prompts (which I really liked), so by the end they started feeling like a little bit of a chore.

I lost it when Satan showed up

Crossworld by XRy 2024-04-17T17:38:11Z

Unexpected take on the theme, fun, addictive, with just the right level of challenge! Reminds me of Semantle, but harder - I'll defo be playing more tonight.

Fun puzzle mechanic, cute vibe, and a unique take on the theme!

Motivation by maxplusplus 2024-04-20T16:57:14Z

Such an awesome entry - the visuals felt very stylish, and I loved the mechanic. The puzzle design was consistently strong. I thought figuring out the "bones" of the mechanic without a tutorial was fun, and didn't take too long, but understanding what was "close" means in the game's logic took quite a lot more trial and error. Not enough to be frustrating by any means, but it could maybe use a bit of clarity. My only point of contention was the music - I thought the track was lovely, but because it was so short and kept looping + restarting after every summon, it started to become a bit repetitive/annoying by the end of the playthrough (IMO)

The Summoning of IN-SI-LA by Dogshroom 2024-04-16T17:49:15Z

Oh man this was so fun! The scope and the level of polish are so impressive for a 3-day project. The art is an absolute delight, has so much style and personality - I especially loved the IN-SI-LA's and the Inquisitor's designs, and the black-and-white art with minimalistic shading is both atmospheric AND a smart shortcut for jam conditions. The UI and soundscape are immersive (with very pleasant writing sounds!) and the writing is *chef's kiss*. The characters are charismatic and a joy to talk to (the Innkeeper deserves a special mention - I fell in love from the first lines), and the world generally feels "lived in" and naturally flowing convos. All-around strong narrative and integration with choice mechanics - I definitely got the "WHAT DO YOU _MEAN, EXECUTE??" whiplash at the end of the first day, it really sold the Inquisitor's evil - the progression of his callousness felt very real also. You guys did an amazing job <3!

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments so far - we really appreciate the feedback!

@hugimugi7, we're glad you enjoyed the story! As per the game's description, it's a visual novel - extensive gameplay wasn't part of the intended experience, as visual novels are primarily narrative-based.

@nick-blackwood Thank you so much for your kind words and useful feedback!! There's skipping functionality in the game (ctrl) and in-game menu on the right click, but you're absolutely right we should communicate it better to in-game without relying on knowledge of standard vn controls/hotkeys. We're planning on doing a post-jam update to add all the content we couldn't fully implement within the Ludum timeframe, and we'll be sure to include that in our list of "quality of life" adjustments!

@sweetwizzle Thank you very much - we're happy you've enjoyed yourself!
