VEEERY POLISHED! VERY CLEAR!
I really like that we're playing it on a 3D tv. It wasn't immediately obvious to me that I could go up the stairs.
Cool aesthetic, looks really nice. The sounds were overwhelming (had to mute)! Could use an in-game tutorial - it wasn't clear on how to fight off all the ghosts. Pretty hard, overall!
@massivejack thanks for the feedback! we didn't have time to explain all the mechanics in game so I put it here on the ld post for now, we will fix that in an upcoming update.
As for the sounds, do you mean the volume is loud or are there too many sounds? You can lower the audio volume in the options menu if you need to
The way the character moves, the way the edges of the game fold in, like on an old TV. It looks really cool. A great find, well done :)
Very pretty, very visually splendid. The unfinished gameplay, especially the fact that I can't really tell what I'm supposed to be doing or why what I'm trying isn't working is a bit of a downer.
Very cute art style haha, I like this game!!The game mechanics are very creative
Looks really nice! The charachter design is very appealing!
I really really like the style here, sadly though I couldnt find that dang safe code after roaming around for 10 minutes and had to give up Dx
I still really enjoyed it though, it reminds me of luigi's mansion (for obvious reasons) but cuter and even funkier
@drainkid it's because the ending sequence is missing as of right now so that last page kinda ends up being irrelevant, it will get fixed in the update tho!
I am happy that you noticed the Luigi's Mansion influence, that was my main inspiration, thanks for playing!
Excited about the characters!
Very cool art style, and the characters are so well thought. Great work!
The idea of setting the game inside an old TV is really cool—it really enhanced the spooky effect! Playing in the dark, I got childhood Halloween vibes, sitting in front of the TV watching old horror movies. The art style is super cute and awesome! Artists—YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!
Thank you so much for the immersion and the vibe! Great job!
The TV idea is really cool! But I didn't fully understand how to fight the ghosts in the game. I choose the color of the flashlight and shoot. The ghosts sometimes die, sometimes they don't. Why can't I shoot at some point? Eventually, there were a lot of ghosts and it became difficult.
Very cool art! The premise and colored ghosts like that made me instantly think about Luigi's Mansion
Cool tube TV effect. Cool mechanic of three weapons and three enemies.
Thanks for making infinite health, hahaha. Actually, despite the beauty of the game, I found the controls a bit unresponsive. I couldn't figure out how to turn on the flashlight to burn the ghosts (I read the hint). A very strange and long jump, and the same knockback. As soon as I turned on the flashlight, I was thrown back and couldn't turn it on again.
In any case, the game is cool; it reminded me of Sega games. It's very beautiful and the music is really cool.
The visuals are so good! As well as world building. It's cool you've added info on the ghosts here on LD page.
I love how the screen moves with that effect as if on tube TV, it's a really good touch, makes the game even more atmospheric. Everything is stylish, pretty, colourful and bright! Cool design as well.
I was confused on how to actually play the game, unfortunately. The ghosts kept bullying me so I couldn't move much. I tried getting on 2nd floor but didn't manage to. Left click (stun?) didn't seem to do anything.
Also, in the very beginning with the newspaper and controls screen, I wish it only disappeared when I click a mouse or sth. it was too soon for me so I had to close the game and open it again to read it properly :')
I wish I could actually play it properly, the premise and atmosphere seem so cool!
Hi! We just released a Post Jam version on Itch that hopefully addresses all the feedback! Some of the fixes and additions in the post jam version: -Fixed the control scheme and improved physics
-Added a pause menu in game that allows for volume to be lowered
-Added options to lower music and SFX volume individually
-Added an outline around interactable objects for better identification
-Finished the gameplay loop and a few unfinished mechanics
-Added a small bossfight at the end
-Added a speedrun time
We are very thankful for the feedback and that you stopped by to play our game, we hope you also check the Post jam version https://tetracold.itch.io/ghost-channel :)
@toshiy @shanzpro @massivejack @n-o-x @logic-monkey @500 @yodak @drainkid @vlad-len @eseniia-no @faust-mi @indiepanda @oradimi @yarcha @kanity
Really cool entry, at some point I had too many ghosts trying to get me, so I restarted and avoided interacting with spots where I'd found them :') I found it was a bit unfair when they came from downstairs and hit me instantly. I really like the mood and the graphics tho
@tanskuja thank you! if you played the post jam version stunning the ghosts helps a lot with managing them easily and you have a random chance of finding medkits in furniture. It also took me a bit to get good at the game lol
@tetracold
Thank you!! It got much better, the interactable objects lighting up helped a LOT, and I feel like encounters with the ghosts felt better as well. I managed to understand the game more, explore the mansion, stun some ghosts, get lots of medical kits. Lovely animation on those, by the way!
Unfortunately, I still got stuck xD Pretty certain I found a non-coloured key, but the game still wouldn't let me into that room (1st floor I believe) and I tried all the rooms I feel like, went around and clicked everything, but couldn't proceed. Found around 3 pages, I believe?
One more thing - I noticed that when I press the down key, I get to see the profiles of the ghosts. The feature itself is great, but I kept pressing the key after jumping for example, or when going down, just from reflex, since I am used to using it for movement. So I kept calling that screen ^^'
@kanity you have to interact with furniture until you find the rat king and kill him to get the green key. there is some stuff behind that door, also the keys disappear form your items once you open a locked door.
the rat king has a random chance of spawning, sometimes I got unlucky and I had to check a lot of furniture till he showed up, other times I got him instantly
glad you enjoyed it tho! I didn't personally have a problem with accidentally pressing the down key but maybe we will bind it to another key if we do another update
@tetracold Ohh I see! I did find him but didn't kill him ^^' I did click my flashlight to stun, I think, but ran away right after so maybe it didn't land? I was sure I have to open something with the key I found! Maybe I did and didn't realise that room was locked before? Sorry :') But the udpate definitely did help, if the game is fully polished I think it will be quite fun ^^
I simply loved your game!!!!
It's on my "Best LD59 Games" list.
What a wonderful idea!
The art is beautiful, the gameplay is fluid (it's a little confusing at first, but you get used to it), the story is good, the music is excellent.
It's a game ready for publication on some platform.
I found the mechanic of changing the music's percussion according to the color wonderful. I have to say that all the percussions are out of sync with the music (out of time), but it's just a silly adjustment. Something that can be fixed in minutes.
I saved the game here because I want to finish it. I reached the final challenge twice and lost. I'll definitely go back to it!
Congratulations to this team and this wonderful work!
Beautiful polish on this game, bonus points for having time to add a volume slider! The graphics and the shaders look great, the fisheye effect was a *little* bit much when moving up/down the stairs but that's the only nitpick I have when it comes to the graphics & audio.
As for the gameplay I did find it confusing what I was meant to be doing, and immediately I ran into like 5 ghosts. Some easing into it would be nice to give me some time to understand the controls. And maybe I ran into a bug but there was a green ghost following me and bumping me around all the time, and I was not able to stun him or make him go away by shining the light on him, so that was a bit frustrating. Eventually I figured out I needed to get check the furniture to get pages and find the rat king, I think I found him at one point but he ran upstairs multiple floors and I couldn't quite figure out how to consistently go up/down the stairs.
The post-jam version played a lot better, great job fixing it up. With just that outline fix and having fewer enemies in the start meant that I was able to understand a lot more of what I was meant to be doing (and how to climb up the stairs), it felt great to play.
Very solid entry!
Very fun art and polish well with smooth gameplay! Unfortunately lack of a tutorial along with ghosts being un-stunable and hitting you in the back out of nowhere makes the experience tough. Tons of fun otherwise though! Reminds me of the recent popular tv shows like the amazing digital circus or hazben hotel! Plus, this might be a feature or not, but walking backwards while facing forwards seems to be only one image, and not a complete animation, so I'd just recommend to have animations there, as it keeps the fun polished immersion you know!
Very cool visuals and mood! Also very nice sound and mechanics. Great game.
WOW! This is essentially a polished and released game on Steam hehe! This music is super good and catchy. I like how with the curvature of the screen it feels like you're going around a globe when moving left and right too.
The visuals are fantastic!! I especially love the curved-screen PCR effect, the character design are incredibly polished and cute. The way the music shifts with different frequencies is also a really nice touch. The ghost-hunt mechanic is simple yet engaging. I noticed the mention of the locked crystal skull, though it’s a bit of a pity that some of that content didn’t make it into the jam version. That said, I’m really glad I got to experience a more refined post-jam version, with the door lock mechanics and the crystal skull-triggered battles fully implemented (and Macro and Pizza Boy are much easier to deal with now :D)!
Loved the visuals and the audio. I managed to get 8 pages (on the jam version) in only one spot spamming my right click. Also i found it hard to escape the ghost : they are quite fast and the reload feels slow on the flash.
But all of this is about the jam version. Since i liked the concept, i'm gonna try the post jam version now :D
@euler-moises Thank you!!
The music sync issue is something I've been scratching my head about, as it only seems to happen on the HTML5 version. The download versions don't have the issue.
Regardless, We're very happy you enjoyed the game! It was a labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears... :ghost: :ghost: :tv: :ghost: :ghost:
@ceriole I had a problem with my audio and the HTML version. I had to use a different approach in the code to solve the problem. I had to fix many things manually because I had problems with a lot of things exporting to HTML. I almost couldn't get a web version.
that curved tube TV effect is absolute magic! feels like i’m back in the 90s watching spooky cartoons at midnight
Best audio and visuals of the jam I've seen so far. Bonus points for the infographics in the description.
A lot of cool ideas here! The out-of-game guide explaining the mechanics was definitely necessary. I had trouble with the blue ghost. It seemed like if I stunned it once and then failed to shine the beam on it then, it became immune to the stun afterwards. The soundtrack even without the reactivity that other people are describing is adorable.
Wow this game is so impressive visually!
A solid entry! I think any feedback I have on improvements are things you either know about or have already been actioned. The presentation is gorgeous. The music is really charming, I love the character designs. I really struggled with the actual gameplay, searching all kinds of furniture before realising only one ghost could be around at once, and that red one was always flying past me and punching me, but didn't seem to be stunnable. I think some feedback as to whetherr you're hurting them would be super handy. I adore the "TV show" aesthetic with the volume for health, and the distortion at the edges of the curved screen - that's really impressive! Well done.
I almost found myself a little bit swindled by playing the version embedded on the jam page, before realising based on the context of the jam instructions that it's actually your post-jam version. Please make this abundantly clear and don't have the post-jam version as your embedded entry page version! As it should be, my comment is entirely based on the experience of the entry version.
@pickens-inc
thanks for playing, really appreciate it!
I am slightly confused about the version part tho, the post jam is on itch and the one embedded here on the site is the jam version. we even made sure the post jam version says so in the bottom right corner when you boot it up
(EDIT) OH you mean the fixed thing, we actually uploaded that one about a hour after the the time limit because we realized there was a bug preventing the game from giving you the pages and spawning all the ghosts which is something we had coded before the time limit, it just didn't work. the one made before the time limit is there for download, I will mention that
@tetracold Ah, understood, thanks for clarifying!
The atmosphere is great ! The sound, the visuals, the "old TV" style... Everything helps create a really cool vibe! Congrats
The dark souls of ghost busters. The collecting can be very punishing if you miss one spot but the different ways to fight the ghosts and the music switching is very fun.
Dropping a long over due comment here. Really appreciate you giving me the opportunity to play this game [on stream.](https://www.youtube.com/live/KSYoPmFIwTA?si=1bvguBErtbvHV5fr&t=6404)
My thoughts are shared in the VOD. Hope we see you back for LD60. ✌
Wheew the game looks so good! And I loved the music!
As other people have already said, you guys have done a steller job with the artwork, music and presentation of your game.
Good concept and fairly fun once you figure it out. The art, visuals and music are wonderful, great job there. finding the pages can be a bit annoying sometimes as you aren't always sure where exactly you picked them up from and might end up searching the same thing twice, and since, far as I can tell, there wasn't anyway to close the note and just had to wait it out, that got a bit annoying. Still, very solid job.
This scene and character design are just too adorable! And each has its own introduction. I think it's very thoughtful and has a very Halloween-like atmosphere. Moreover, the interactive way and gameplay are also very attractive. It's a great game!
I really enjoyed your game! We actually started from a pretty similar premise with the whole “playing through a TV” idea, although the way our games evolved ended up being quite different in the end.
I especially loved the channel-switching effect and the transitions throughout the game in general, they were really well done and added a lot to the atmosphere. There are a few physics-related things that could probably use some polishing, but honestly, I think the game has real potential as a commercial project if you decide to spend more time developing it.
One idea that came to mind would be to separate the ghosts into different levels instead of having them all together in the same mansion, giving each enemy its own themed stage and mechanics. That said, for a game jam I think the way you handled it was definitely the right choice: it keeps the experience shorter, more focused, and does a great job of showcasing the game’s ideas and possibilities.
The art and music also worked really well together, creating this subtle spooky/mysterious atmosphere that really captured a bit of that classic 90s vibe. Overall, this was a very strong entry with a lot of potential to become something even bigger.
Great job! :tv: :ghost:
Very impressive! I really loved the mood of the game! The artstyle has a 'newgrounds flash games' feel to it. I also liked the small detail of the layered music for each frequency. Though, the intro experience is quite rough as the player gets assaulted by multiple ghosts pretty much right at the start.
This is an incredibly polished game for a jam, I love it! The haunted house theme is great, and the graphics are super charming - they look very Paper Mario to me. I liked the way you explored more of the house as you went, uncovering the story and different fun ghost characters. The evolving music for each colour light was cool as well. The game really takes you on a journey from beginning to end, which is cool to see in a jam (I went and played the post-jam too just so I could see the ending!)
The combat I found a little frustrating. It's just holding a light on the enemy until they die, so there's not a lot of action to it. And you can very easily get trapped in a corner and be unable to escape damage. Health packs are rare, too, so that damage is very punishing. I got all the way to the ending gauntlet and just got overwhelmed, which is when I discovered dying makes you do the whole thing again - and it does feel a bit like busywork the second time. When I died again I really didn't feel like doing _another_ whole playthrough, so I never saw the ending of the story, which is a real shame.
Great work! This is a super-polished, whimsical ghost-hunting romp, and I'm really impressed at the scope of it.
(Also, just a side note for the story - it would be nice to be able to re-read collected pages! I missed one my first playthrough and was disappointed I missed some of the story.)
@sam-gorman thanks for playing! if it makes the experience any better you can walk by the ghosts when they are stunned without getting hurt, also some of the ghosts don't actually hurt you in their idle state.
for the gameplay loop that's just kind of the nature of it, there isn't much I can do about that without rethinking how the game works from the ground up, but I do understand how it may feel like doing the same thing over and over
@tetracold How didn't I figure that out?! I may have to give it another try sometime, that would make the ending sequence a lot more doable haha
@sam-gorman to be fair it's not really stated anywhere, I just kinda hoped people would understand or find out on their own through playing, so that's on me lol
@tetracold You could always just slot it into that cool manual page you have in the opening! I probably should have made the connection, since this is very Luigi’s Mansion and those games are all about stunning ghosts with flashlights.
