Haven't seen something like this before. Interesting idea, nice controls but a bit hard. Probably just enhance the graphics and audio and would be perfect game :)

I really enjoyed this, I feel like if I got someone else on the red controls rather than doing them both myself, it would be a blast!
Clever controls and concept. Unfortunately, the game defaults to a resolution bigger than my monitor and I could not resize to fit. I messed around a bit but the canoe would go off edge and I would have to manually scroll to bring it back in view.
This was pretty fun! I Got bronze after trying both the left and right paths. The only real issue I had you don't have much warning on what's coming up ahead which makes reacting pretty difficult but otherwise, great game!
@immortalfox Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I didn't get to do as much testing as I would have liked to, so I'm not surprised to hear the game balance is a little bit off. I really enjoyed making this game and I have a bunch of ideas I wasn't able to get to, so I might just have to keep working on it and make it into a full game!
@sicosiber Ooo. Now I want to add online multiplayer!!!
@boboneoone Thanks for that feedback. I forgot I had the display locked like that. I'll leave it as is for the ratings, but I'll definitely address that issue. Thanks for playing despite the issues!
@dingbat Good point. I'll definitely think about how I can address that. Either giving the player some warning of upcoming obstacles, or maybe zooming out a bit as the speed picks up so you can have more time to react. Thanks for playing! I'm glad you like the game!
cool idea. It feels like the microsoft edge offline game; with more depth & nicer controls imo.
The music is very cute! I like the ending screens. I have only accomplished bronze so far.
I had to zoom out to see the full game. Having the control, fullscreen toggle or explanation on the top left rather than bottom right would help. Nice control, would be fun to play as a two-player game, that would reflect my actual experience of canoeing (going in circle forever!) It was a fun experience

Nice to see you have used github during the development process of the game. I have starred and added your repository to a list of ld57 compo : https://github.com/stars/dhmmasson/lists/ludum-dare-57-compo
I have created badges for the readme that you can use: ``` Ludum Dare Ludum Dare ```
Consider using these **topics** to make your Ludum Dare entry more discoverable: - `game` - `game-development` - `ludum-dare` - `ludumdare` - `ludumdare57` - `ludum-dare-57` - `ld57`
Nice! The tutorial section was great. The controls feels delightfully difficult! I played alone and it was already pretty challenging lol. I need to convince a friend to try this one with me yet.
I really like how you have different difficulties that you can pick from, and how the tutorial flows (no pun intended) right into a hub world which leads to the levels all in a seamless experience. It's a fun immersive way of "simply messing about in boats"
I'm continually impressed that you do compos, and can make something like this all alone in just 2 days! I think this is my favorite of your jam entries yet! Great job.
@minidavid I hadn't heard of that Microsoft Edge Surf game before, so I had to check it out. I see the similarities, and now I want to add ramps and krakens to this game!
@dhim Thanks for playing! Yeah I realized I made a mistake with the screen sizing, but it was after the deadline so I'm going to leave it as is for now. With compo games, you have to embrace your mistakes and imperfections! Also thanks for linking and pointing out the LD57 repo. I'll definitely use the badges and and some topics for discover-ability! Thanks for taking the time to include my repo and share that with me!
@cameronpenner Aww shucks! Thanks for the kind words! I'm really happy with how this game turned out. I agree that it's the best jam game I've made thus far. Things went really smoothly, and the project came together well. I'm glad you enjoyed and pointed out the level design! I was stoked when I thought that up and tired it out for the first time, so I'm glad to see it appreciated. Thanks for playing!!!
Lol this is actually so accurate to how it feels trying to paddle a boat. I thought it was fun and satisfying to control, and the boat getting destroyed animation thing is joyous.
That is such a cute game, the controls are unique and I love the delicate balance of each character being simple enough so it can be played as 1 person, and on the other hand each character a crucial position so it can be played together with a friend. Great game!
Damn it takes a while before brain adapts to the controls, very well done. Graphics and sounds effects of course could be better but 48h is 48h. Very nice game overall, great submission!
It's a nice game, I'll play it with someone.
Like the boat sprite and the pixel art and music in general, very cute
I suck badly at this game, so couldn't progress much.. even on the easy path :0
It doesn't look hard, but it's so hard. I still I managed to beat the bronze round so far. It's really a fun game and I like the the control scheme.
The mechanics evoke emotions! But honestly, what I liked most was the combination of visual style and sounds/music, good thing I played with sound on.
THANK YOU FOR NOT MAKING THE SHORES DANGEROUS*
*Although maybe you did, I don't know, lol. It only took me 4 attempts to deal with the whirlpool.
This is a pretty fun entry, I bead bronze on my own, planning to convince someone to try it in multiplayer, sounds like a hillarious time
Bonus points for making the UI also use the control buttons instead of the mouse!
Very interesting concept, it was fun to play, thanks for this experience
I had a fun time with this! The unique control scheme was a fun challenge to try and overcome, and each of the courses were fun to go through. Also love the victory sprite of the two paddlers posing on the boat! Well done! :confetti_ball:
This game.... frustrated the heck out of me haha. I think if I just didn't try to beat the 3 skull path I would have been fine, but there's so much stuff in that course that feels genuinely unfair. There feel like random momentum spikes directly into rocks when currents and whirpools overlap, and it's hard to read where currents will pull you. But I had fun nonetheless despite all my complaining! , and played for way too long. Finally got to the end of the 3 skull course with 3 boats, but it still said I beat the BRONZE. Nice work!
@cammyrnn That boat destruction animation was super fun to make. I wasn't sure if it was gonna work while I was drawing it, but as soon as I saw it in the game I was super happy with how it turned out. I'm glad you noticed it and appreciated it! Thanks for playing!
@ntmalichi I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I'm really happy with how the controls turned out. I've been having fun playing around with it and thinking about how I can build on it, especially with two-players in mind!
@mcramon Thanks for playing and commenting. I am looking forward to how I can develop this game's visuals and audio without the constraints of the compo on it. In only 48h you do have to stick with a lot of first takes, and 'good enough's. But I am a big fan of a lot of what I did produce for this jam. I like my two little voyageurs and I want to continue to build their world! :canoe: :evergreen_tree:
About two years ago I first time in my life took the same boat as yours in the game. And controls in your game look so realistic like it was then! Very good job!
@atsh Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the art and music. Like with most of my compo games, I had ambitious plans to add a lot more visual stuff, but deadlines hit before I could get it all done. But even though I didn't get everything done, I thin this is one of my best looking compo games, and I'm really happy with what I did manage to get into the game.
@pincushion It is deceptively difficult. I didn't have enough time to playtest and balance the game, so it's way more difficult than I intended it to be. But I feel like that's just the way my compo games go most of the time. It's the compo curse... I'll know I've reached the next level as a dev when I make a compo game that I have time to playtest and balance.
@nnmbzr Haha! I'll admit my game is difficult, but I still think it's fun to play. If I had made shores deadly, it would be so hard I don't think it'd be fun anymore. The game would just be downright masochistic! The one idea I did almost do is to make the shores bouncy, so the boat would bounce off the walls and potentially into rocks. But I never got around to adding that into the game. Besides, the game is already difficult enough with how in the way all the rocks are. I don't think the game needs more hazards until I get the gameplay a little more balanced.
Fun game! Cool that you can choose your own path/difficulty. i could see myself having a blast for a while, while having a friend over :)
@freamdev THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT!!! Seriously! That you brought that up makes me so happy. I thought I could get that done quick, but then it ended up eating a huge chunk of my Sunday. Afterwards I was thought that no one was even going to notice all that effort. But it did get noticed! YOUR COMMENT MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT!!!
@jtap Thanks for playing! I really enjoyed making this game. I'm glad you had a fun time playing it!
@dylan-shumway I'm glad you liked the game! I was pretty happy with the way the victory medals turned out. I find their chest out, epic posing hilarious, and I'm glad you enjoyed it too!
@t-c Congratulations on making it to the end of the gold course!!! That is impressive. I have no defence for how difficult it is! I wanted to iterate on the water visuals so it would give you a better idea of the current direction and strength, and I also wanted to do a balancing pass on all the courses to make sure they weren't super difficult. But I didn't have time for either of those things. So I totally empathize with how unfairly difficult it is! Way to go on sticking it out and fighting through all that to the end! And then there's a bug that it just says you got the bronze after all that effort. Oh man. I'm so sorry!!! :face_palm:
@xpoho Haha! I've heard that from a few people that their experience playing the game really mirrored their first time in a canoe. And it's usually about how they ended up just going in circles. I'm glad I've managed to recreate that experience so authentically in my game! Thanks for playing!!!
Cool entry, my brain can't handle the controls too well though lol The death screen is amazing, since I saw it so many times I had the opportunity to enjoy it to the fullest
Very cool game ! A little hard, but overall i really liked the the unique controls of the boat ! Could be a great concept for a coop game !
@patatje It's awesome how many people want to try this game out co-op because I did not think of that at all while I was making it. I'm glad you liked the level design. I'm super happy with the way it turned out.
@nomus Thank you for the compliment on my end screen! The art in your game IS AMAZING! One of the best looking games I've played this year. It means a lot that such a talented artist enjoyed something I made!
@mrantoinest Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I honestly don't know how I didn't think of having a co-op mode earlier. Seems kinda obvious in hindsight, but it didn't occur to me until people mentioned it in these comments. But I better tweak the difficulty first because having two different people working together to steer the canoe is not going to make this game any easier!
OMG I played this with @verydarklord and we had such fun! We had little idea what we were doing and never got past the whirl, but this was truly a one of a kind experience. Great work getting this done in 48 hours!
Man what a frantic and funny game. Surprising depth with the many level elements too, and the currents and everything. Not super close to the theme, but still probably my favorite entry I've played so far. It's the kind of game where I'd love to see someone skilled at it play through it. :D So @the3rdhunter in case you're good at your own game, please post a playthrough video.
I am really bad at this game and only got bronze xD Cool entry! Enjoyed the mood.
@fluffyou Thanks for playing! I'm so glad people are having fun playing the game, and turning it into a co-op game. That must make the game super difficult, but that's so cool!
@very-dark-lord I'm glad you liked the game. I agree that the game wasn't very on theme, and that's why I opted out of ratings for theme. Thinking about depth gave me the idea of doing a downwards vertical scroller. And then the canoe came in because I was thinking about the deep woods. Then I started to make this game and it kinda took on a life of it's own. So I see the theme in the inspiration behind the game, but I agree that it's not very clear and that's why I opted out of the scoring.
@island-jam-2-group-3 This game is really hard! Even getting bronze isn't very easy. Way to go! I'm glad you enjoyed the game and had fun despite it's difficulty.
@very-dark-lord I don't know if I'd say I'm super skilled at my game, but I managed to get through it! So here you go!
https://youtu.be/6MsIibLryI4
Victory.jpg I got to the end! Very interesting mechanic! I love that there is different paths with different difficulties! Is there a way to get more than bronze?
@the3rdhunter hahaha, nice video! The editing! :D I didn't even get far enough to see these floating bears man! And to be honest I didn't quite get either that there were routes of different difficulty level. I took the "difficulty signs" as just another deadly obstacle and just avoided them without paying much attention to what they showed. :D
@ludumcor Thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked the game, and the level layout! I was really happy with that part of the game. Unfortunately all the paths lead to bronze right now. All the level ending flags are the same object that I copy-pasta'd and I forgot to update the value on the object. :face_palm: So there's a bug where all the flags give bronze. I'll fix it once the rating period ends. I like to keep the version I made during the 48hrs up until ratings are over. Even with bugs. :bug:
@very-dark-lord Makes sense why you thought the signs were just another danger as everything else in the water is an obstacle to be avoided. As I iterate on this I'll work on how I communicate that. Maybe have some more overt in-game stuff about difficulty paths and branching, and keep the signs out of the water so you're not worried about hitting them. Thanks for the feedback!
I wasn't talented enough to even get a bronze, I kept exploding the boat lol
Cute pixel art, and I liked the humor (not sure if it was supposed to be funny, but things like 'Q 2 quit' made me chuckle)
I feel like this would be a fun game for 2 players where each one controlled one of the paddles to see if they could work together and navigate the river as well.
Good job, had fun, broke many boats heh
