A fun little game! I did find it hard to tell the differences between the real and fake fish behavior... even after reading the explanation. But that is good--I like that there is a bit of uncertainty and challenge there. The music is nice at first but begins to feel a bit much after a while. I loved the caught fish sound effect and how your fish turns green and get's turned into sushi. Well-executed humor. Overall, a great game! Good work!

@scriveneroflight Thank you so much for your review and kind words! I'm really glad you had fun with it!

qhboiboi 2025-04-09 18:57

a really intetersting game that really challenges players! although I think the game might be a little TOO hard, but fun nontheless!

ezduzzit 2025-04-09 19:00

as it turns out: no I am not. Fun game though, I really like the visuals! music is nice and chill.

wyzal 2025-04-09 19:06

Funny game, when there's a lot of bait floating around and a fishing net appears, it becomes quite a challenge. Good job!

gerswick 2025-04-09 19:11

@qhboiboi @ezduzzit @wyzal I really appreciate your comments! Thank you so much for playing and reviewing! I'm really glad you liked it.

transkuja 2025-04-09 19:12

Simple but fun, took me some time to understand the changes of patterns

jnur 2025-04-09 19:18

Fun little game. In my honest opinion, it could've been better if you focused more on the almost schmup-like dodging & collecting rather recognizing the fake fish's obscure movement patterns, but I think the fake fish idea was smart anyway. It's still surprisingly chill, in a good way of course!

kuboi 2025-04-10 10:40

Really fun relaxing game! Was pretty chill at the start but once there's more fish to watch out for and the hazard of the net looming it gets quite challenging! The art and music are really cute too and go well together:)

gerswick 2025-04-10 11:46

@transkuja @jnur @kuboi Thank you so much for your feedback! Glad you had fun!

amberfall92 2025-04-11 03:53

Tricky game. I couldn't figure out the differences myself so I ended up reading in how to play. I appreciate that those hints are there with the spoiler warning!

starl 2025-04-11 14:19

Nice idea! I enjoyed trying to find out patterns in the fish behavior, but I found it really challenging to distinguish fake and real fish by their speed. However game was pretty chill and I liked gameplay. Pretty nice graphics and audio.

gerswick 2025-04-11 19:52

@amberfall92 @starl Thank you for your feedback! I will definitely try and tweak the difficulty a little bit so players can have a better experience. :)

adam-martin 2025-04-12 03:22

Love the chill music and how simple the controls were.

ljol3 2025-04-12 03:25

A nice and simple experience, but I wasn't able to tell the fakes apart well enough even after I thought I did.

That could very well be a me problem given that I did not play it enough to truly differentiate them.

gerswick 2025-04-12 10:23

@adam-martin Thank you for your kind words! Glad you've enjoyed.

@ljol3 Thank you for your feedback! Many people suggest the difficulty is a bit too much so it definitely is a problem with the game I will have to tweak with a little bit. Again, thank you, I really appreciate you playing! :)

leorean 2025-04-12 14:56

I love that "EUGHGHHHHH" sound the fish makes when touching the hook :joy: Also I really like the nice relaxing music!

salaro 2025-04-12 20:03

Fish devs! Your game is really fun, I enjoy learning the difference between the real and fake fish! It gets a bit hectic later on which I wasn't expecting, really keeps you on your toes! Good job!

skyeward 2025-04-12 21:22

I really like the idea of spotting which fish are fake based on their behaviour, in reality I found it pretty difficult to tell though. Maybe starting off with some really obvious fake fish and then introducing the harder to spot ones later on would help the progression feel a bit more natural

nomus 2025-04-12 21:30

I really like the concept : I think what skyeward said above is true and it would make it a bit more easier to spot, there's so many fishes after a certain point it's hard to keep track ! I don't think I did that great but was fun ! ggggggggggggggg.png

caffeinetrip 2025-04-13 06:39

So fun game, Look like old flash game about fish. Good job, but in game, but the only downside is that i can't recognize fake fish((((

binaryprinciple 2025-04-13 14:18

I kept me hooked  The mouse movement was such a good idea it felt fluid. Keeping and eye on the fish behaviours was a puzzle in itself and having to evade meshes and suspicious worms added action to it. Strong coreloop and mechanics. I enjoyed the music and sounds gave it personality.

gerswick 2025-04-13 22:25

@leorean Haha thank you, that's actually me doing this sound, could've been just a placeholder but obviously there wasn't much time to replace it, so it stayed. Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for feedbak! :)

@salaro Thank you for your rating! Really nice to hear you noticed the slight chaos later on, I was actually trying to go for that feeling. Glad you had fun :)

@skyeward I really appreciate the feedback! I will definitely try to balance that out and add maybe a few more fish variants to add more levels of difficulty. Thank you again so much! :)

@nomus Thank you for your feedback! I will try to account for that feeling! Really glad you had fun and posted your score. You actually did great, I didn't have enough time to play since the release but 21 is quite high at this difficulty haha. Thanks again :)

@caffeinetrip Thank you for telling me how you feel about the difficulty. I will definitely try to improve it! Glad you at least had some fun, thanks again! :)

@binaryprinciple Damn you know what's up haha! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm really glad you like the controls and the loop overall. Thanks once again for you very kind words! :)

Fun twist on the classic fish-eat-fish games. I had to look at the instructions to see what the "fake" behaviour is after a couple of tries (for example, for the basic fish I thought it had to do with up/down movement). I think it's a neat idea but some of these "quirks" are a bit too much, I don't think I would realise e.g. that the fake carps don't visit all 4 sides of the screen :) I guess the real/fake behaviour should be spottable based on observation, even if given just 5 seconds to do it, rather than however long it takes the carps to make their visits.

Are_you_smarter_than_a_fisherman_WUmTMr2mLw.png

Entertaining game with enjoyable graphics and sound design.

Even though I read the instructions carefully it was still hard to differentiate between Real & Fake fish. I think Fake ones should have stood out more, maybe move in a unnatural sorta phasing patters, like it moves, then it suddenly stops completely and then moves again unlike real fish that moves and stops smoothly like you'd expect.

The bait sometimes spawned without a wire (maybe that's a bug idk), I felt it was actually better, because in real life it's usually so thin and almost transparent-like that fish wouldn't be able to tell.

Great job! :fish:

gerswick 2025-04-19 19:53

@aurel300 Thank you for your feedback! I will definitely tweak the behaviour, I didn't really have much time to think about the patterns thoroughly because of the deadline so I came up with these kinda elaborate ones that are maybe a bit overkill. Will look into it! Thank you once again!

@empyreans Glad you had fun! Thank you for your review and suggestions. I know about the wire bug and I even appointed some time to try and fix it but I just couldn't come up with why it happens in the first place so I just decided to leave it and hoped it wouldn't bother the players much. And thank you for your perspective on it, I think it adds a bit of goofyness to the game so I'd like to leave it, but on the other hand I do like my games true to the real world so I'll think about it! :)
