Graphics are a little bit weird: it looks kinda nice, but at the same times some things are a bit ugly, like the paint on the floor and the font. Gameplay is simple but it's fun and it works well. Congrats!

Cool graphics and catchy music! The summoner's self-conscious statement about the g-letter made me laugh. Dodging the bats was surprisingly hard. Good job with the game!
"I like the architecture"
Like the music and graphics and style in general. Mechanic is simple but entertaining enough! Vision thing is neat too
Sweet entry, runs great on my ancient laptop. The one that looked like a person didn't seem to 1:1 match the drawing in the scroll book, but I managed! I like how the final demon is like... you can leave now.
@epb9000 thanks for trying with the ancient PC, glad to hear that the performance held up :D @yorsh Kind of nice/kind of weird hits the nail on the head... we tried to stick to the 4 gameboy colors, as we don't have any designers on board we failed and embraced the failure xD @all thx for playing and your feedback ;)
Nice entry! The music and art are really charming. Did not expect these real time "shadows". :D Worked pretty well for me for the first four or so levels, but tbh I just gave up on the giant star because it's so hard to stay oriented. Plus, not sure if that's an issue for everyone, but the spellbook for me (in fullscreen mode) renders quite uneven pixels. As you can see here, many of the pixels are not square, which several times caused me to accidentally go a tile too far.

Also, it was sometimes hard to tell which tile you're standing on, so a few times I made errors because I was apparently just standing a few px off to one side without realizing. Overall great job though. I hope I didn't miss out on too much due to stopping early.
The unique painting style brings a wonderful experience. The color scheme of the game was also novel enough that it kept me playing. Overall it's a very interesting game.
Cool game!
I agree with everyone else that the music and graphics are great.
The most annoying part is that the design is obscured by the different sized pixels, so it was difficult to tell if something was supposed to 2 long or 3 long.
The work with light and shadows impressed me, it looks very cool! I would advise fixing the bug where you can walk with the spacebar held down and the necessary runes are automatically drawn. Once I discovered this, the book became unnecessary) Good job with the graphics and music.
Not sure if the different pixel size in the spellbook were intended. Other than that good job!
Thank you @all for playing. I'll try to evaluate all of your games aswell on the weekend, bad part about a Ludum dare is that you ignore most other things and they catch up after work during the week...
The disorientation was part of the concept, we thought about having an "starting pixel" in each level (as in the intro) but decided against it.
The ambiguous pixel in the spellbook (just noticing that we forgot to rename it scroll) are a bug that we could not unsommon due to time-shortage (maybe we can check on the weekend aswell).
The light-effects are done via a raycasting-plugin (and some additional math :P), after a cleanup session we might open-source it if people are interested...
Interesting concept. Love the gameboy aesthetic for the music and visuals. Well done!
People kinda already said everything. Problem with stretched spellbook was pretty confusing. It would be much better to make movement tile based. But art and music are good and concept is alright too.
It's a neat Idea and I like the visuals and sounds. But damn, it really takes patience not to hold the button down and run around like a crazy person. Lovely entry!
Not bad! For me, the main mechanic of copying pixels didn't really resonate with me. I didn't find it too fun and the larger levels were a little daunting. Might've felt a bit nicer if the map scaling was fixed?
I dug into the source code a little to try to see where the pixel scaling problems in the map came from. Unfortunately didn't make much progress with the compiled code. Looks like you built the game with Phaser?
Generally the problem is that you're scaling the level image before drawing it, so you need to make sure the image you're drawing is an exact multiple of the size of wherever you're drawing it. One quick fix would've been to add blank squares around the images until they're the right size.
I like the graphic style though!
Good job on the game! It's an interesting concept with nice gameboy-ish graphics and music. I was a bit confused also with the pixels in the spellbook not matching with what I was supposed to paint on the floor.
Thx for all your Feedback and completing the 20 votes necessary for a score ;)
@jezzamon indeed, we used phaser. After a cleanup-session we might publish the code if you're interested so no need to bother with the compiled bundle ;)
Btw. due to work there was no time for any bugfixing or cleaning, the weekend is coming, so I promise (like 99.999991412%) to look at the scaling issue O:)
Good pixel art and interesting mechanics. I was surprised by the amount of bats, it's directly intense.
So much fun! I wish there was a way to figure out where to start so you can do it perfectly on the first try, but even without that it was super fun. I had a great time testing it.
Awesome lighting effects! Loved it!
Well balanced learning curve, great pixel art and 8-bit style audio!
The gameplay isn't great, but there's still enough there to make it interesting, and the music and pixel art is really nice! The lighting effect was a nice touch too, it really added to the mysterious vibe.
Nice entry! I like the humor around the g in the font :joy: Keep on making games!
