Imagine you die, become a ghost, see a light at the end of the tunnel, beautiful music swells and then some idiot like me misses half the notes and your holy ascention is canceled. Gotta come back to learn the song, well done!

sybert 2024-04-16 02:53

This seems like it would be a really fun game. Normal goes from 0 to 100 really quickly though. Nice work on the music, and it's fun how the notes float in instead of just travelling in a straight line. I really wish I could finish the normal mode level though and be able to listen to the whole song. And the beginning of normal mode starts a bit slow compared to how it ends up later on. Nice work overall though.

rustywolf 2024-04-16 02:55

Boy do I suck at rhythm, but this is super well executed!

exister 2024-04-16 02:59

Not a big rhythm game fan, but decided to give this a shot I tried the first song and it went awful, third song and it went really well with going into a combo mode even, and the second one felt the most satisfying synced between notes and song, and also had the coolest song, but I still died eventually. Struggle to get my head around two inputs at once for some reason, lol. Great game all the same though, beautiful art, beautiful music. Happy to have played

pusheeneiro 2024-04-16 03:01

A great but difficult rhythm game, a big plus for the possibility of calibration

2024-04-16 03:45

Super hard game, but the music sounds great! Can I get a source?

spit 2024-04-16 04:04

Beautiful game, it's too bad im HORRIBLE with this style of rhythm game. I loved it though!

bearcage 2024-04-16 04:12

Pretty game, nice music, — this was fun! I have a feeling I didn't get to the best parts of the songs since I'm not great at rhythm games — I hit the difficulty cliff face-first and fell right back down!

meepster 2024-04-16 06:00

This is an excellent submission! The artwork for this game is amazing for both the level and menu designs.

Can't forget to mention just how incredible the soundtrack is!

I will say that this is a difficult game with a lot of mastery but seeing myself get further and further into the song was very satisfying!

Overall it was very well polished, Great job!

mindnumb-interactive 2024-04-16 17:29

Really well polished and visually unique game! It was definitely a tad hard for me, but I am historically awful at rhythm games

Wonderful entry!

widerhold 2024-04-16 19:15

Very beautiful game and polished game! i could see it developed further with more visual eye candy reacting to the music and combos. the core gameplay is very engaging even for someone like me who sucks hard at rythm games. it sucked me in for a couple of rounds. had a blast!

gabriel-chan 2024-04-16 19:37

@neandi @rustywolf @exister @spit @bearcage @meepster @pusheeneiro @mindnumb-interactive @widerhold Thank you for your feedback! Seems like ryhthm games aren't everyone's forte but we're glad you enjoyed it!

@sybert Thank you! We do think we could've done a better job with the balance of the game overall, I agree it is perhaps too difficult. You should try the third song, Black and White! That one is my favourite and in my opinion, the easiest.

jake-g 2024-04-17 00:23

Amazing to see a rhythm game on here. Very difficult with WSAD  Edit: Also very handy calibration system, I tried again and it helped a lot.

It would be nice if you could retry from -10 seconds ago, when you mess up, just to even learn the song a bit.

cat-lab 2024-04-17 03:04

@neandi @sybert @exister @relevart @bearcage @meepster @jake-g Thanks for taking the time to try the game, even with the steep learning curve! A rhythm game was definitely a new challenge. I did upload the game tracks to my SoundCloud profile if you're ever interested in having a listening experience separate from the game chaos!

tesseract 2024-04-17 04:13

I found the game very hard at first, but after calibrating, I immediately more than doubled my top score (from ~11000 to ~22000, then quickly to ~40000 on the first level's normal mode). I suspect other people who found it hard hadn't done this.

I was suspicious that after calibrating, I seemed to be getting 'perfect's quite far from the targets, so I tried turning my headphones off, then playing with and without audio calibration and still noticed a huge difference in my result. Is it possible there's a bug which makes the game much easier when the calibration amount is non-zero?

oblivioncreator 2024-04-17 16:23

As someone who's useless at rhythm games, I can't say for certain how good the later levels are, but the fact that in just 72 hours this seems really polished, has a unique soundtrack and even has calibration does wonders!

typicalkin 2024-04-17 16:24

Surprisingly a lot harder than I anticipated.. and I'm a rhythm gamer!! It's hard to tell which notes are closest to the hit zone until it's too late, though. Really nice soundtrack and neat art, though.

nsadie 2024-04-18 18:22

I am not great at rhythm games and found it pretty difficult! It was interesting to let the notes come from the various sides and not in a straight path. Nice music and well executed game!

gabriel-chan 2024-04-18 18:56

@tesseract Thank you for your feedback! We contemplated forcing the player to go through calibration before playing the game however we thought that would put off players since it's just for a game jam. It could be that there is a large amount of input lag which results in notes quite far from the perfect zone to get registered as perfects. In hindsight we may not have implemented the input calibration the best way haha. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

@oblivioncreator @typicalkin @nsadie We're glad you enjoyed the game! The difficulty is definitely something we could've done better on, it's a lot harder than we anticipated when the levels were first created but we had other focuses and didn't have time to remake the levels. Definitely something we'll keep in mind going forward.

nadia-pixel 2024-04-18 19:26

ahhhh its breaking my braaaaaain. beautiful art and music, but it gets impossible way too fast

coderaurus 2024-04-18 20:09

Thanks for adding calibration, something to keep in mind for my entry as well. With it I increased my score ten-fold. The most intense part of the song is quite hard and I seemed to lose the rhythm there very easily. After half way the notes seemed to be out of sync.

I like the songs regardless. And the visuals are quite pleasing. Perhaps, if there was some additional hint of typing of notes (chain/simultaneous) it could've improved the experience.

Great work either way, team!

pigeonic 2024-04-19 15:39

This is such a beautiful game! The sound is amazing and it has such a nice atmosphere. I did had a hard time with the difficulty but the wonderful art and music kept me going. The only thing I would have preferred was if the notes had more contrast or a different colour to the background (was difficult to concentrate on them at some point). Great game!

vphyre 2024-04-20 04:29

A very interesting game. Graphically it is a very beautiful and responsive game. It's cool to see all the mechanics behind the sequences of keys that you must press, this gives a different feel to the gameplay. The sound is minimalist and really good.

Good job.

Note: Your interpretation of the theme slightly reminds me of the idea I tried to implement for my game hahaha.

coro-yy 2024-04-20 15:24

A bit too challenging for my liking. Would've been nice if you don't "die" but get negative points or so instead, so you can at least continue if you suck. But besides my missing skill, it was a great game. Nicely done. Good visuals!

yanato 2024-04-20 22:11

Stunning visual style and music. But even normal difficulty made me suffer

amerigo-gazaway 2024-04-20 22:52

Pretty difficulty but love the art style and use of music in theme and gameplay. Soundtrack is bangin too!

soojung-choi 2024-04-29 04:47

I love your art, music, and your idea of summoning spirits through music! There was a difficulty spike on the normal version of "Black and White" and the normal versions of the two other songs were difficult for me as well, but one day, I hope to master them. I do like that you enabled both the WASD and the arrow keys since I found it easier to split 2 notes across both hands and both sets of keys instead of just using only WASD or the arrows. Very good vibes overall.

cursedembassy 2024-05-01 19:07

by the title screen I was expecting cool epic sound effects.. still fun, but I wish it had more sound effects and a in game theme. other than that, it was fun.

pauldee427 2024-05-01 21:00

As one would expect from a rhythm game, the soundtrack is well-made. I wasn't good enough to hear the songs in their entirety in-game, but I've listened to them on SoundCloud and my favorite tracks were probably the Main Menu theme and Moonweaver. Despite the fact I have, although limited, experience playing rhythm games, even the normal difficulty levels have proven to be too difficult for me to complete them in the time I've been testing this game. The art is very atmospheric. The visuals and the music complement each other well. On the programming side I've experienced no bugs and the main mechanic seems to be working perfectly. And importantly it's fun to play!
