This is a really interesting concept, at first I was just trying to paint it as best as possible, but eventually I realized the live money counter. I think it made me draw much worse, but better fit the scoring. Definitely unique idea! great job :)

Still can't art, but at least I got paid.

martin-bousquet 2023-10-03 00:00

The concept if very original, and fun. I'm not an artist though :(

My only regret is that it seems the reference pixel art is not made by a human that carefully chose the colors, it makes the whole a little sloppy.

What better to do after 3 days of creating pixel art? Create some more pixel art! Great game :D

edearth 2023-10-03 00:15

Love this! I usually struggle with insecurities while drawing, but I had a lot of fun drawing in this game. Thank you for that <3

yammming 2023-10-03 01:04

really fun and creative concept! I had a pretty good time drawing haha. felt very smooth and responsive to work with :)

deppong 2023-10-03 04:25

I love this concept! I'm a huge art nerd so this game struck an awesome chord with me. Really amazing stuff!

thenerdster 2023-10-03 04:33

My art looked terrible but I was making money haha. Nice entry UI felt great. Congrats on a solid entry!

phillip-scott 2023-10-03 10:05

Great idea to limit the canvas space! I can't art though so it felt like a comedy game to me :D really fun thanks

thelastslowpoke 2023-10-03 18:41

Really cool idea. The color pallete is also limited, not only space ^^ Made some abominations and one cool one

ttkayttis 2023-10-04 16:03

Great game, really nice and fun concept. This could be really good party game for people where people could then rate who won also so the final image can be rated more fair.

This was really fun to play. It's interesting how making good pixel art isn't the best way to make money, since you're trying to get the closest match (not the most recognizable match). I still tried to make pixel art anyway :)

I liked the concept, but I got paid for whatever I drew.

indivicivet 2023-10-05 15:54

good: - funny, unique concept - good replayability by having a bunch of paintings, and it'd be fun to play with friends

bad: - sound; lack of bgm but also feels a bit unsatisfying not having any painting sound as you swipe around - graphics aren't individually terrible, but the art style isn't particularly consistent (even ignoring the original paintings and pixel paintings, because matching both of those simultaneously would be hard!)

coatline 2023-10-05 16:56

Oh, this is super cool. I actually thought as I started playing "I ought to try to make something like this." That's when you know I think it's cool. So first thing, when I started playing, I randomly drew pixels and it paid me money. This made me wonder if it actually even mattered what I painted as to the payout. To fix this confusion, I propose making the payout only scale up past a certain "accuracy" threshold. That way, you aren't getting paid for random scribbling. Great take on the theme though, really cool project.

@majellan awesome :smile_cat: Thank you for sharing! the meme

I wrote up a little [blog post](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/profits-in-proportion/profits-in-proportion-scoring) about scoring. Any thoughts on improvements are welcome, thanks!

I liked the idea! I had a lot of fun drawing!

mdotedot 2023-10-06 04:47

Awesome idea and execution! Thank you for making this: I enjoyed this out-of-the-box/in-the-box game!

I enjoyed drawing. It would be nice if there was a bit more structure to the game, like a progression system with more difficult paintings.

The gallery prices are so much higher than my profit! I feel like somebody ripped me off. I think I generally got around 120$ in profit, which I'll assume is decent.

For some reason the music only plays in the menu for me, so the game is silent most of the time. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not.

I often wanted access to some colors that were not in my palette. For example in this one I have no blue or green: painting.png

And this one had no green or red: magritte.png

A nice idea well implemented!

I loved that you can see other people painting at the end. However, instead of a random batch, I would have like to be able to see other people take on the same painting than the one I just did, to compare my "art" with other's.

I liked the fact that the game can be a short or as long as you like, without any contraint. Of course this has an impact on the game structure sadly. Maybe you could have made a menu to chose which painting you wanted to try next?

I tried this game on my phone and it worked pretty well! The game space wasn't taking the full screen but after zooming in a bit it was perfect. I could see this game working quite well compiled as an Android app!

its-capp 2023-10-06 10:27

this is pretty fun, some of the paintings were pretty difficult to recreate but most of them were reasonable. pretty good!

ani 2023-10-06 16:52

This is such a cool idea! It's definitely fun to try and match the art in an abstract way. I do feel that some sound effects while painting would make the action more enjoyable, and the music only played in the main menu for me too.

fiora-the-purple 2023-10-08 13:55

I was laughing the whole time I was playing this game. I think it's a very good game that you can play while training your drawing skills! You can determine the light and darkness of the picture and decide which parts are the most important and need to be represented in the limited time. The game mechanic of putting a price tag on a painting immediately after it is completed is very rewarding and very much makes me want to keep playing! Really like this game!

Welcome to play our game and please leave a review and rating.❤

mahc 2023-10-08 19:38

awesome to see another painting game! super addictive! would be cool if there was an explanation for the differences view

reivilibre 2023-10-08 23:08

Really clever way of doing limited space with an art game! When making our art game we were wondering how we could score a user's painting, but never thought of doing pixel comparisons, scoring it by colour distance (I assume?) and displaying the score in real time. Restricting the pixel grid, palette and time all at the same time makes it a good challenge to try and get the most match whilst not wasting time (plus when you don't have any green but need green, you have to choose wisely! :D)

(not an artist :-))

madbarron 2023-10-15 15:04

Creative and fun! It would be nice if there was a button to wash the entire canvas with a single color. Other than that, no complaints! Great entry :)
