I like the feeling when i stuck bunch of cars behind XD.

This definitely feels like it needs something more. It can be finished in seconds if you know what you're doing. Also, I didn't have any idea how it related to the theme until I finished it. I liked the unique control scheme, though, and the large number of cars on the road creates a good sense of urgency.

Interesting concept, I actually liked the audio quite a bit! I thought the car was somewhat difficult to control. You said this is your first LD so that's plenty to be proud of.

Perfectly captures the feeling of being a new driver on the highway. You're always in the way of everyone and you miss your exit before you realize it's there.

The car likes to drift a lot, but it'd be way more difficult if it didn't.

I drove for a long time before I realized that I needed to get off the highway, so I think a little more indication that the off ramp is your target would be helpful. There was the bright flashes of red when I hit walls, so I assumed that was a bad thing, but there wasn't any health bar or other type of feedback that told me how close I was to dying, or if I even could die. I liked the top down look and the procedurally expanding and collapsing roads. Reminded me of the old Micro Machines racing games. Great job!

I didn't expect something so simple to end up being so difficult, and purely because of my own psychology haha. I always wanted to go max speed but it's seemingly impossible to get out unless you're driving slower and really paying attention. I guessed right at the ending, very cute.

It took me a few tries to win. I was really annoying that other cars can block exits, but I actually really liked the feel of the car. It was not really visible for me how "dead" I was, so when I lost it was always a bit of a surprise. The randomly generated roads are cool and the audio fits the artstyle. It feels a bit like an old 8-bit arcade game. Also if you made the goal a bit clearer at the beginning or added a timer it probably would feel even more stressing, because the ending is a nice interpretation on the theme. The "lost"-ending would feel a bit more sad and motivating to beat the game and the "win"-ending would feel more satisfying.

But overall nice game!

PS: Also I love to see Godot 4 games!

Liked the colour pallete and that there's a pretty narrow part of the screen used. Also loved the way the other cars just piled around you.

Sound was a complete overload it was pretty good made the whole game a real mood.

Great achievement for first Ludum Dare, especially entering the Compo category.

kierogi 2023-05-04 09:56

This is why I don't drive! The level, design and sound all combine to set a very tense atmosphere.

xlores-liang 2023-05-04 10:02

When I stopped or crushed, I will block a whole loaf of cars behind me, which looks very amusing :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: , especially comparing to other racing games where players are punished by those annoying cars when stuck.

Love the sprite. Reminding me of the little plastic cars of childhood.

kreshi 2023-05-04 12:02

I think it was a good effort for a first compo (I also participated for the very first time :D). The end screen when you win was very sweet :).

dysleixc 2023-05-06 09:23

I'm not sure what the goal is but I found the general driving gameplay rather satisfying.

jelch 2023-05-06 14:59

Feels just like trying to find the right exit on the highway :D

lisek-gagatek 2023-05-07 17:33

Nice polish highway simulator. The controls are done well and the idea for gameplay is there. I like how the car behind you create an apocaliptic crash in second after stopping. Level is also generated neatly.

I would love to see this idea expanded upon, something like another lane of cars going in the other direction (it would create some overtaking chaos probably). But overall it is a fine jam entry, I hope you will partake in next jam!

torte478 2023-05-08 14:34

Solid game! I like sound design and cute graphics

cavedens 2023-05-08 15:01

Your game gave me so much anxiety! I felt like I was stuck in rush hour traffic when everyone was in a hurry to go to the hospital while cops are flying by! I would love a bit more of an indicator when the exit is coming up as you cant slow down in time to get over, you just have to hug the right lane and hope but other then that, great submission!

sodoj 2023-05-08 17:46

The beginning of the game scared the hell out of me, I did not expect it to start so abruptly! The sound design only added to the tense atmosphere, making this game unexpectedly one of the scariest games I've ever played in game jams, if not the scariest! Good job in managing to achieve that!

cheesepencil 2023-05-16 19:36

Congrats on your first LD! You have a complete game with a functioning mechanic and win and loss conditions. Great job <3 <3 <3

2023-05-17 15:58

Had to come read the comments before I realised how to win :D Good job for a first entry! I don't know how to do it in Godot, but you probably want to set the pixel filtering to "point" to get those sharp pixels if you make art like this. It's not that big of a deal, but that's how it's generally done.
