Hello!

2022-10-03 23:47

created hard mode, who need flippers when you have toes

2022-10-03 23:47

Love the music! Pretty fun time and a great accomplishment for four days of work! Super proud of everyone!

t-c 2022-10-04 00:25

I get this error when trying to run your game from this page:

"Uh oh! If you're seeing this error, it means I can't find your index.html file.

This usually means you created your .zip file by zipping the entire folder, and index.html is somewhere like MyGame/index.html. If you recreate your .zip with index.html file in the root, this error should go away.

See the embedding guide for more details. ludumdare.com/resources/guides/embedding/

404 Not Found"

Let me know if I'm doing something wrong?

brandsma 2022-10-04 00:27

This is a good idea. We also thought of it, but chose to do something different. Still love to see it.

eugene-an 2022-10-04 00:27

Love the metroidvania-like style of the level! Nice scope, great job!

thomas-yanuziello 2022-10-04 00:28

I like how if you run out of air you can still survive if your momentum propels you into air.

rvenson 2022-10-04 00:41

The song and the water sounds are really amazing. The controls are easy to master, but I find the colliders a little bigger (especially for the enemies). The bubbles are intuitive for me, but I felt a little confused with the doors. Maybe an indicator for the number of keys in the level should work well. I guess there's an enemy with Donkey Kong inspiration? I love it and the gameplay was very fun. Very nice work.

goody 2022-10-04 00:44

@rvenson thanks so much, yea the pufferfish is certainly a nuisance lol!

salamandur 2022-10-04 00:44

@thomas-yanuziello We love it too! It was initially a glitch but it worked with the concept so we rolled with it :).

t-c 2022-10-04 00:47

Had a bunch of fun with this one. Really liked the mood you set, and how well each of the areas presented themselves!

goody 2022-10-04 00:58

@t-c thank you for downloading and playing! we're working on an itch upload at the moment, sorry about the embed not working

rubinshki 2022-10-04 02:36

The mood is relaxing, but the game has some stress timings ! Fun to play, well done !

lululululu 2022-10-04 03:07

fun and simple. loved the pufferfish, very cute

mauvegrover 2022-10-04 03:10

I really like the last ditch mechanic when the player runs out of air. It's pretty satisfying when you nail that trajectory.

lunkums 2022-10-04 13:25

Hard game with nice floaty controls. Needs a bit of polish, but great idea :D

walaber 2022-10-04 21:15

nice work. I found it frustrating when I would get caught up on corners and there wasn't any "sliding" behavior to help me slide around and continue on. 10 seconds never felt to short! Nice interpretation of the theme.

moasip 2022-10-04 21:16

I like the artwork and the music. I had a lot of fun. I like how much anxiety builds when you are running out of air and trying to get to the bubbles.

wheybags 2022-10-04 21:17

~~It would be nice if there was some indicator that you are running out of air.~~

Just checked the web build, and it seems there is actually an indicator! I played initially with the windows build, and the air indicator does not show for me.

defilerzero 2022-10-04 21:26

Great design and premise. I always like a nice subnautical and diver theme.

Probably the most glaring thing I encountered is the collision between the diver and pufferfish is off, like two divers heights distance is a hit.

goody 2022-10-04 21:31

@wheybags hmmm interesting thanks for the screenshot

lejocarry 2022-10-04 22:04

Nice atmosphere :D

Feedbacks : - hitboxes of ennemy is WAY too big :3 - collectable games aren't really fun

wazce 2022-10-04 22:06

@wheybags thanks for pointing this out, bummer it didnt show on the build, but glad you tried it on the web version!

@defilerzero thanks! yeah good note, thats definitely a glaring issue that we should have fixed earlier

@walaber this sort of mechanic (and improved collision with tiles) would go a long way for improving game feel, definitely noted. thanks!

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! :D

bravelytyped 2022-10-04 22:17

I am a sucker for nonlinear explorer games, so I'm really happy to see one here!

I liked the air mechanic, and unlocking the dash ability felt great. If there's one thing I think could be improved here, it's conveying status information to the player. For the first three times I played, I didn't even notice that the air meter was on the diver sprite itself

I also wasn't clear on how many hits I could take from enemies. And as others said, the hitboxes felt a tad too big (or maybe they just move too fast).

Also as others have said, the last ditch mechanic was a really cool concept, but I would like it if either it timed out faster once it was clear that I was dead, or the ability to quick-reset manually.

Great game overall!

raphiell 2022-10-05 00:03

The mood was intense! Especially in the Abyss. Didn't manage to get to any 'end', but got 40 pearls. Well done!

amberfall92 2022-10-05 00:32

nice ambiance with the sound of the bubbles and the chill music.

chocolat-endive 2022-10-05 09:25

Very neat! The game is fun to play and has a great mood. I think I caught 50 pearls, I think I was not thorough enough at the beginning. It reminded me a bit of Aquaria.

It was definitely a good choice to keep player progression when dying, since you never know if the direction you take will lead to air bubble in the time you have left, and that time is pretty short in any case. However, it encourages to go for missions where you get all the bonus you can without planning any return. It's not really a problem, but I'm not sure it's the intended player behaviour.

Overall a super nice entry :)

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-05 11:49

Nice atmosphere and great attempt at intricate, non-linear level design. I had fun playing it on stream and relayed my feedback there (can't remember it all now, sorry 😅), but it was overall a very nice submission =] Great job and keep at it, I'd love to see more jam games coming from you soon ✨

fiordarancio 2022-10-05 23:10

Not patient enough to seek for all the pearls, but I enjoyed this chilly game. Loved the music and the effects (maybe a little tuning between the two to make one of them stand out would be perfect). Very nice map, required me concentration and memory. A faster reload after you drown would be also a nice refinement. Great work!!

nardandas 2022-10-06 18:08

I really liked the idea, it reminded me of a minigame from of all games, Lego Island 2 GBA. Really fun. I think it was hampered a bit by the lack of landmarks, it was difficult to tell where you were in the maze, and by the enemy behaviour. The enemies kind of incentivized me to do this really slow thing of pulling them to a safer place, which didn't fit the exploration. I got through the key doors, I thought they were really good ways of incentivizing the player to explore further. Good job overall!

redneb 2022-10-06 20:21

A simple enjoyable game. It's good that there are air bubbles to relax. I liked how the time indicator is made. Good job.

merlinperlin 2022-10-06 21:38

chill game nice idea, i loved the fact that you wherent drowning directly but could still get some air with the right direction. also cool that you gathered perals where save so you could just search for the next ones ( if that where intended) nice entry mate :)

faust-mi 2022-10-09 10:29

Reminds me of TMNT for (NES, Famicom, Dendy)! Nice and simple idea. Good gob!

chriswiseman 2022-10-10 09:35

Love the mood you created and the motion of the diver. But it is very hard.

wazce 2022-10-11 19:57

@bravelytyped Thanks, a lot of good points. You're right that the air meter is quite hard to read, it would have been better if we drew more attention to it. I've thought about adding a red flash to the air meter when you take damage to convey hit information, and the hitbox for one of the enemies is definitely too big! A quick reset is also sorely needed, I agree.

@chocolat-endive I hadn't heard of Aquaria but it does look great with a similar vibe! Yeah we went back and forth of that but settled on it being kind of fun to have some situations where its just a suicide mission for "loot". We didn't wanna make the game more annoying than it already can be haha. Thanks for the feedback!

@harry-alissavakis Thanks again for playing on stream, we liked how it spawned a discussion of good game design principles. Next jam we definitely know now to leave more time to design levels.

@fiordarancio Thanks! Agree that there is too much time between initial drowning and respawn. Quick resets are good :)

@nardandas Definitely! The levels are a bit hard to read right now, particularly the last one. Hopefully you found the flippers which makes the enemies almost trivial, but you're right, without that "weapon" then playing around the enemies can be kind of slow and tedious. Thanks a lot, glad you kept exploring!

@merlinperlin That was intended, thanks for playing :)

@faust-mi Interesting reference, I didn't even know it existed. Also funny, on the wiki page that swimming level is specifically called out as a negative haha. Thanks for playing!

@raphiell @amberfall92 @redneb @chriswiseman Thanks everyone! :)

defrag 2022-10-12 21:27

I like what you did with this idea. I enjoyed the undersea exploration - it reminded me a bit of Ecco the Dolphin. The 10 seconds of breath coupled with the tight camera space made it a little stressful to explore the level, which hopefully what you were going for. I'd like to think that I could hold my breath a little longer than that, but I get that you were going with the theme there! Nice submission!

@faust-mi I totally got this vibe when I was playing. Unfortunately, I remember getting really frustrated with that level growing up.

wazce 2022-10-14 00:39

@defrag Thanks, that was definitely the intent! We were thinking of having upgrades to the breath limit but figured it'd go too much against the theme. I love all the old game references in here :)

2022-10-14 18:22

This game is a wet game, a very wet game. The noises are good and soggy (good job). I like the gameplay, art and exploration. Very impressive work for 4 days.

merpader 2022-10-17 15:14

Very interesting and original idea! Just make sure you touch up the tilemap to make sure that the tiles are consistent throughout
