Got to 102 seconds before I met my demise. Fun little game, more audio would have been cool!

markymark 2022-04-04 12:11

I made it to 150 second before all of the islands stopped appearing and I inevitably drowned. The air movement could use some fine tuning, but overall a fun game!

Fun premise. I think this could be expanded into a really large game. I loved that you could swim for a bit, I expected water=lava and was pleasantly surprised. Also having the capsule fall over when I'm not moving then immediately get back up was pretty funny.

I loved how the beam falls if you don't move it is a nice touch jaja also I loved the fact of being able to swim a little bit (as someone already said) it makes it better than getting insta killed.

Also the water and how the icebergs ascend is very clean and nice.

Good job!

Thanks for your entry :)

An interesting and fun concept which implements the theme very well. I will say the jump feels quite strange and I found that I can mash jump underwater to jump out of it (although it was inconsistent). Good effort ^-^

Interesting, there are some contrasts - idea is pretty good, and implementation of ice apearing is very good - both from random perspective and graficaly, borders of water near ice was looking good. At the same time controls felt counterintuitive, I get that it is flying, but still. And also changing capsule to some model like penguin would be nice. Liked the falling part though, that was funny) good entry)

The spawn and subsequent rising and submerging of the ice look great. As others have said the capsule falling was funny. Cool entry especially for a compo game, I've wanted to do one for a while, but always back out.

claytonrumley 2022-04-07 02:41

This was a very creative take on the theme, and as others have mentioned the ice floating and sinking was really well done. The penguin falling was unexpectedly funny.

I realize you went with the simplicity of a capsule for the body...maybe if you had added an orange cone as a beak it would have made it look just a bit cuter.

Thanks for all your comments, I have a pinguin fbx I have done in blender but didn't had time in Compo 48h constraints to rig/animate and add it to this version. Other issues are easy to solve and commit done in github... preparing a new release

I made it to 77 seconds, then I stayed on the platform, the platform disappeared but I just floated in the water with the timer still running. Is that what they call and 'undocumented program feature'?JPCA-Avoid the Drown-0.2_20220408_053704.png

Very beautiful tic tac

j4cko16 2022-04-08 20:19

Would had been nice if there was an player sprite, good idea just needs some more polish.

benjamin-humes 2022-04-09 18:02

It seems like moving at all cancels any upward movement from jumping.

bentglasstube 2022-04-09 18:02

very interesting game. It was a little disappointing that the ice just stopped spawning at 150s, but it was fun up until then.

ramil-dev 2022-04-09 18:10

Fun entry! The iceberg spawn looked organic and felt balanced gameplay wise, although I also encountered the bug some mentioned above which prevents them from spawning at a certain point. As other people said, I would love to see a cute/silly penguin model falling when standing still, but I understand 48 hours is not much time! :)

drumgadget-433 2022-04-09 18:18

Like some others have said, I like this concept and I think it has a lot of potential as a full game. The rules are simple, and it's very replayable. I'd love to see some animations for the gliding, swimming, etc! Sometimes it was a little difficult to tell how close I was to the water because of the perspective. Nice game!

Bonjour à tous ! @claytonrumley, @bentglasstube, @ramil-dev, @drumgadget-433, @david-york, @muriel, @benjamin-humes, @beebster-games, @themadpangolin, @zantze, @markymark: here is a new release with small fixes (to pass the 150 seconds for example) and porting to linux and mac. According to Compo rules I understand that I cannot add more audio or gfx (I made more sounds and a pinguino during the 48h but was not satisfied of the result). I was not able to reproduce/understand and fix all problems and the webgl version still have shaders problems with black waters results, sorry. A new version with an animated pinguino, more audio, bonus fish and dangerous shark attack is planed niark, niark niaaark

Very nice game! The visuals are great, especially the ocean and icebergs. I like that it gets quite frantic from time to time, where you climb the closest ice mountain, waiting for your rescue, lol! And sometimes you just jump and hope for the best! Fits the theme perfectly. Good job!

pkzinpo 2022-04-14 02:42

Nice job! The overall look of the game is very nice and clean! Very interesting how you implemented the 'simulated flying/floating' when you go up to a high point and walk off, adds a fun little dynamic to the gameplay. I think there could definitely be more added to make the game, it has a lot of potential. Overall, nice job!

raptarr8 2022-04-15 21:40

The premise of the game is really simple, but the execution is nice, and it's fun to see how long you survive. Being able to glide off of high points on the map is a fun addition, and the ability to faceplant is the best game mechanic I've ever seen.

nonnen 2022-04-19 13:13

Very pretty game, I love the atmosphere. I think some music really would have added to it. The fact the capsule could fall over when jumping was a nice touch. The jumping/gravity felt a bit clunky, but the game play was still fun
