Pretty fun game, I spent good amount of time trying to get used to dashing around and aiming with my axe which I totally suck at. Cool art and music, overall pretty enjoyable. While time running out is pretty inevitable, I'm sure there are way more meaningful things that are inevitable though!

This game is sick, I 100%ed it, probably World's 1st.

3bt 2022-04-05 02:58

it is very creative and fun, I love the idea

malero 2022-04-05 03:02

Wow, was pleasantly surprised by this one. Super fun and I've not seen that mechanic in another game before. Nice work!

malero 2022-04-05 03:04

Oh, I keep losing my axe on the southern wall of a few rooms. Maybe a bug?

nathan-evans 2022-04-05 03:05

This was fantastic. I played several times. Are the levels procedural? Keep up the great work!

cary-stanley 2022-04-05 03:26

I was on a Mac and there isn't really a right/left click (I was only able to dash), so I was unable to really play the game. Sounds interesting though.

noskro 2022-04-05 12:28

Cool game. Needed a bit to understand how to kill enemies efficiently, but then I was unstopable... until I died :D I also lost my axe e few times (twice I was standing next to a wall and shoot it parallel to it behind some barrels, and it glitched out). But in the next room the axe always returned. All in all, well done

miranda 2022-04-05 12:29

Fun game! Good job, I enjoyed playing it!

arqitech 2022-04-05 16:04

Wow! Cool and original mechanics. Good job

tryston 2022-04-05 17:33

@3bt @malero @nathan-evans @noskro @miranda @arqitech Thank you so much! We really appreciate it and glad you enjoyed it. Original concept was thought of by @michbet and refined by the both of us.

@malero @noskro yea I need to do a check to not throw if the axe is in the wall so it just throws it outside, sorry if this makes you have to reset. Going into another room gives it back though, so just try not to do it in the tutorial room or an active room.

@nathan-evans No the levels are not procedural, handcrafted and designed by @michbet. There is an end, 5 upgrades, and a secret boss.

darkwolf 2022-04-05 22:20

This is a really fun concept! I did find it really hard to avoid running out of time though. I only got to the speed upgrade twice and that was the only upgrade I found out of the 5, but from what I have seen it looks great.

sg-goennung 2022-04-06 16:22

The fighting concept is great, art and sound are very fitting.

Once I managed to throw the axe through the wall, however it respaned when I went through the next door.

All in all a great game.

confidant17 2022-04-07 01:04

this game is awesome, and has great potential.good job

matterlinx 2022-04-07 01:16

I really like the combat mechanic you guys came up with for this jam. It feels really satisfying throw the axe and dash to get it! With a some more polish and depth, this could go a long way!

We also embraced the viking theme so we are all for this! Truly beautiful pixel art and fitting sound. Fun gampeplay mechanic and solid controls. The dash added a nice bit of personality and variance to the game. However, did run into some issues with trying to retrieve the axe at the certain spots.

fireslash 2022-04-07 01:59

Interesting mechanics here. It ends up producing a pretty fast paced game that encourages lots of tight movements. Really fun!

Art was simple but cohesive, and the music/audio fits well.

Nice work!

askoed 2022-04-07 11:56

The game is really fun! Nice work!

cambryx 2022-04-07 12:07

This is the coolest combat game-mechanic I have seen in a long time! I will probably try out something similar in my future games. It felt really good chaining together throws and dashes when you got into the flow! Sometimes retrieving the axe felt a little finicky. Maybe increase the pickup radius a bit or introduce some kind of summoning where you cal let the axe fly back to you (a bit like thors hammer in marvel) I am also a big fan of the pixel art animations you drew. They look great! One thing I would have wished for is a time freeze when things are explained to you. In the first room that is already the case. But when the red rooms were explained while I could see the clock ticking down it felt really frustrating.

boxedmeatrevolution 2022-04-08 00:48

I legitimately had a lot of fun playing this game, and was pretty obsessed with playing until I managed to beat it. I loved exploring the level, and the music was great. The combat worked pretty well, but had a loooot of collision problems, which were frustrating at times. Also, it felt like the late game enemies were just super fast, instead of being more interestingly designed. Very addictive though, with a little polish it would be an absolutely incredible entry.

smiley 2022-04-08 02:06

nice work on the graphics. I had a bunch of problems getting my axe back from the target. It was also quite diffcult to aim, a bit bigger hitbox on items would probably help with that.

vixenmink 2022-04-08 03:04

Very interesting game. I was confused at first to why the ax wouldn't return to me when I walked up to it after throwing it at the dummies, but I blame throwing it before listening to the next instruction

The ax has a way of being thrown through the wall where you cannot go to retrieve it. I lost mine in the little cauldron when you first start to play

Great job on this one

caudatecoder 2022-04-08 07:42

Totally did not expect this game to be so fast-based looking at the preview! The core mechanic is very well done -- it it's usually tedious to go and pick up weapon that you threw but with this giant dash it's so fun. The way of killing enemies is pretty clever too!

Overall a very solid and fun game! Great job!

I was streaming my playthrough of your game, here's a recording in case you'd like to see it https://youtu.be/1s0mnrLO_ak

lbrande 2022-04-08 09:13

Very cool and innovative battle mechanic!

marcmagus 2022-04-09 17:05

Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for feedback! If you’d like to revisit the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1449912084

I kind of feel like controller twin-stick or even just aim and aim dash in direction of movement controls to remove the mouse from the equation would result in a control scheme that feels more comfortable and natural for me. Game felt good but a little too hard, I wish I could have seen more of the upgrade content.

svntax 2022-04-12 04:53

Really fun combat mechanic! I always ran out of time by the time I reached the first upgrade, but it is fun to dash around the rooms and try to go fast.
