Nice game, I didn't realise what to do first time round and I think I got in a spot where I couldn't catch the rabbit. Second time through I caught it twice and then blocks kept getting added and FUUUUUUUUN was on the bottom but it didn't appear to be doing anything.

bangthewall 2022-04-04 09:53

I like the idea behind the game, but it felt impossible after catching the first rabbit and the wabbit after it, since the rabbits prioritize moving up and wont move into choke points after getting to a certain position on the map.

But overall the execution is nice, just the AI feels a bit weird.

Overall, good job

Art is cute and music is pretty nice. I couldn't catch the rabbit. I spent way too long so I just don't know 😅 (Was gonna look at the source to see if I actually COULD catch it but I think the repo isn't public?)

Slick intro and outro. I like the art-style in general. Feels like something different. (Doing a lot with a little, like I tried in my current game as well, but maybe a bit less successful depending on how you look at it).

The concept of capturing is nice. Would be a bit more strategic with more that the main character though. On the other hand, that might mess with the vibe you're going for maybe.

Even though the game left me with positive feelings (despite the robot-heads best efforts), I mostly have a little list of bugs+ and other things I noticed beyond this (it's like that sometimes...)

- The wabbits and other creechers can spawn inside ('on'?) the robot-head. I was able to 'get' it once the blocks grew to a full row in front of the head. See screenie. - The walk distance is 'as the bird flies', but the character needs to walk there, so sometimes you can walk over blocks you can't reach because you _can_ reach the destination. (Due to how abstract and surreal the surrounding is, this ... I'd maybe have thought it was on purpose if this wasn't a gamejam-game.) - Due to the way the animals evade you, and you need to trap them, and they spawn the grass on capture; nature will always spawn in the corners and edges of the map, rarely covering the center. - If you're 1 block away diagonal, and the animal is trapped in a corner, and you click that tile, you will swap places (as the movement is never diagonal, and there are techincally 2 paths, and the critter will always take the other one).

(+: Pointing them out is not 'asking [you] to fix them', right? :-p -- I just assume that you'd still like to know if people ran into them.)

Anyway, good job. Felt nice and relaxing to play, which is what many of us probably need right now.

@remco thanks for the feedback! apprecaited. Will try and fix the game breaking bugs. Yeah I did noticed couple of those but didn't have time to fix it.

@byazzle ah sorry will sort that out.

Creeeeepy !

At a certain point my brain hurt, it was very hard to catch anything. I like the mood very much

flawed-gamer 2022-04-04 21:42

The game was fun and made me think a little, however, at some point near the beginning the music cut out. Not sure if that's a bug.

caudatecoder 2022-04-06 07:38

Beautiful and a bit trippy little game! Really loved how self-aware it is with all the funny little comments.

It kind of lacked direction and purpose for my liking and I didn't make it till the end. I was a bit tired though, so maybe I'll give it a go once I'm properly rested

Anyways, really great aesthetic and humor!

Not sure if it's helpful for the reasons mentioned above but here's a recording of my playthrough in case you'd like to see it: https://youtu.be/6O1eFU0xLWM Your game starts at 1:32:38

@caudatecoder thanks for playing! Appreciate the feedback and recording your play through, really helpful!

tygrak 2022-04-06 09:24

Very interesting! I am not fully sure what was happening, but I managed to catch a very large number of wabbits.

Quite a unique art style and music, it was even a bit scary, especially the subliminal messaging(?), which is kind of strange from what I thought the game will be at the start. Good job making it :)!

Cool game. Really cute art and cool idea. Good job!

dandala88 2022-04-07 23:17

Cool little entry you have here. Not a whole lot I can say that hasn't already been covered but I'll try. The music is the star on this one. Loved the cryptic spoken word. I kept turning around thinking someone was trying to get my attention. Very creepy. Other than that, it seems like you accomplished what you set out to do on this one which is incredible. So, I'll only offer what I think could make it better in future iterations: Increasing the gamification of catching the animals would be nice. Like each animal has a different strategy to catch it. A couple more animals too could increase the complexity in a way to make it feel little more engaging.

foursay 2022-04-10 01:44

I just can't believe it is a compo entry - it is so good and well-polished. The "Singularity" indicate the core gameplay for your game that you need to count your steps sinularity to force animals to conner, which I think is a brilliant idea but difficult to code, but it seems like you are doing well. The visual feels natural, and there is even some narrative that reminds me of you, the author's existence. It is such a great game for a compo, and I am deeply impressed. Good Job! Sing.png

hmightypirate 2022-04-10 18:12

My only strategy for catching the animals was to lock them in one isolated tile at one wall.

I did some libgdx game in past LDs, so I understand all the effort in coding that involves. Kudos to you for using it!. Loved the graphics and the isometric perspective!

glaikunt 2022-04-10 20:19

@dandala88 Really appreciate the well thought-out feedback. I'm pretty bad at expanding on game mechanics at the moment something I definitely need to work on.

@foursay Thanks! Your comment has made my week, think it may be the best review I've had

@hmightypirate Thanks! Yeah I think I could have added more to the pathfinding/movement but I just got the basic pathfinding implemented then didn't have much time left. The big thing is it can only move one time and if you stay further away from it, it's easier to direct it.

This was really weird, but surprisingly fun! It took me a bit to figure out how to catch the rabbit, but the hint that appeared on the screen at some point really helped :P After that it was just chasing the rabbit into one-long tunnels at the edges and catching them that way (maybe I missed something?). It seems very boring, but it was actually a lot of fun! I think this was due to the weird background noises urging me to stop playing, and the text that kept popping up. The text telling me to stop playing at the beginning actually started to make me think that the game was impossible to beat, and that I really should stop playing. Luckily I tried a bit more :)

All-in-all I feel very weirded out, but in a good way :P Thanks a lot for making this! This was an amazing submission, very unique and polished. I had a lot of fun ^_^

_Look at you in all your glory._

I found the credits pretty funny. I wasn't entirely sure what I had to do at first, but I got it down once I caught the first animal. The concept is unique and nice, but I had a tough time outsmarting the AI. I just needed to hope that they would move into a corner so I could trap them.

Graphics were really nice! Nicely done!

lenny-rudeberg 2022-04-16 10:58

The game was an interesting experience, after collecting a few rabbits and other creatures I started to get a little lost trying to work out what else the game my have to offer, the humour from the pop up text kept me going though. Art style and graphics were really cool, good job!

josh-bothun 2022-04-20 16:30

Interesting idea for a game. It actually looks quite promising, but personally I found it confusing trying to determine exactly how to catch the rabbits. At first it seemed turn based and you needed to force them into a corner, but eventually I ended up being able to catch them by moving multiple spaces and they didn't seem to move for one of them? Not exactly sure.

The gameplay concept and graphics are nice, though, good job! Unfortunately the music cutout for me in the beginning which I would have liked to hear, im on Chrome on windows 10.

picttarge 2022-04-21 00:56

First time playing this the music worked fine but subsequent plays it cuts out at the start as others have mentioned. I really like the isometric view and it's got pretty clean lines :) Completed it first time even though on first play a while ago, a couple of the wabbits eventally tried (jam code: accidentially tried?) to hide behind the robot head. The humour of the text adds to the experience, well done :)

Really neat world! I included it in my Ludum Dare compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/dNThIjw08MI

Cool game. I really like the art style and feel of the game. The visuals and audio work really well together. Nice work.
