You are missing the cover for your entry. It's not too late to add this now.

It's kinda weird that Grim Reaper have to kill people. It would make more sense if, for example, if you'd have to protect humans from vengeful dead souls by putting them to rest (bonk and drag to vemetry) before they kill more human, creating more vengeful souls as a result.

skleembof 2021-10-04 20:28

@baturinsky I was way too exhausted to prepare a cover image and proper description by the deadline lol

And yeah, I know the premise of the game doesn't make much sense. in my original concept, you had to fly around the village and find your target while avoiding demons and other humans. You would be able to turn invisible to avoid detection and fly through walls but I had to scrap this after I spent too much time experimenting with the character controller. So the whole killing humans and getting soul orbs thing was just slapped together in the end so you have something to do

I am happy with the final result of the character controller though. The flying mechanics and animations I think do a good job of making you feel like a grim reaper/ghost thing slithering through a village, looking for prey.

The controls & modelling in this are amazing! Attack was pretty funny, I think I managed the 360 no scope. I was stuck on the human hitting him while he was running about nuts. Great entry!

theseusinabottle 2021-10-04 23:41

Your models look good for being made in 48 hours and your sound give good ambiance. The only problem I have is that your camera turn sensitivity is really high for my taste.

kora0h 2021-10-04 23:46

The hook and flying part is very fun and made me laugh. It could be a very cool game with more rewards and punishments, but as you said ,you don't have enough time. Nice take on the theme anyway!

skleembof 2021-10-04 23:56

@theseusinabottle Did you play with a gamepad? Unfortunately I didn't have time to fix the gamepad controls so you'll probably experience a bunch of issues like that

arkinrev 2021-10-05 04:41

I had a fun time getting dragged around by the terrified people. I would have loved a bit of a dash, especially when I went out exploring beyond the edges of the world. Good work!

parker-nalch 2021-10-05 04:55

Really well done on the artwork and scenery. Very immersive and fun to explore.

m-a-t 2021-10-05 10:04

I really like the models, especially the reaper! Ambience and sound are good too. Unfortunately you didn't have more time to continue your project, anyway, I enjoyed it.

caudatecoder 2021-10-05 10:16

The reaper looks great and really fun to control! Visuals and sounds set the mood pretty good.

I wish there were more things to do. Good job anyway!

Oh, and also I think you should fix your build. There's a folder named "Unstable LD49_Data" but it should match the name of the executable. It throws error until you match the names

purpledartfrog 2021-10-05 10:55

A good solid entry... interesting idea. Unfortunately like you mentioned the controls seemed a bit off on the WebGL. I also had a bit of difficult actually hitting the humans - but one of them connected and he ran like hell :thumbsup_tone1:

:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:

yagovictor 2021-10-05 12:24

very good gameplay, I liked the mesh

hiko-game 2021-10-05 13:19

The gameplay is fun!! Yeah, it remind me Luigi. WebGL mouse control is bad.

skleembof 2021-10-05 14:02

@caudatecoder wow thanks for catching that! Just fixed it

pbg 2021-10-05 21:11

Very ambitious! I had a pretty hard time getting the scythe to hit properly, but it was hilarious when I did. I like how open ended it is. Really nicely done!

freeworld 2021-10-05 21:14

Fantastic job with the models and animations, it looks great!

I also really like getting dragged around by the flailing humans :D it's fun. I diligently went through the gates until I remembered that I didn't actually have to.

I didn't have problems with the controls for the webgl build, it worked well on my machine.

I would have loved some kind of dash, the grim reaper feels so slow at times :P

Overall great job, I can really feel the effort you put into the game!

vodzik 2021-10-06 20:52

Great models and animations for compo game! I think that killing human could be more challenging if player must counter his running direction, or else victim goes free. Also running victim screams could make it funyer and more satisfying. I think that corruption orbs are to slow, and it's a little bit frustrating when it stuck behind fence.

Overall - good job :)

hobzone 2021-10-07 09:30

Nice game. A little too easy, I didn't feel any challenge killing humans.

kumber 2021-10-07 10:54

It's great. The characters are well polished, the atmosphere is very eerie, good job. It took me a little to undestand that I needed to keep the RMB down + clicking LMB to attack. I found the panicked reaction of the humans very fun, I don't know if it's intended  The game shows a great potential.

tattomoosa 2021-10-07 18:07

The graphics are really great. Nice touch with the cloth robes that flow. Needs some kind of challenge but it sounds like you knew that and ran out of time. It was still pretty fun to play with the character controller for a little while.

I should also mention mouse sensitivity is going to be drastically different for different machines, and even different people. It did work fine for me, but there's really no way around needing to make it configurable on a per-user basis.

nyxkn 2021-10-07 19:03

No idea what this was but I had a laugh :D I just attached myself to the dudes and they'd run away killing themselves. Not sure if that's what I was supposed to do. Nice graphics and fun animations but not much in the way of gameplay.

pashaloban 2021-10-08 06:47

Fun game XD

intodarkness 2021-10-08 13:07

I tried the WebGL. My character got stock following the human . The graphics are nice and the nusic fit the scene. Very nicely done . Good Work :v:

fis 2021-10-08 21:46

I tried the WebGL as well - and whow the mouse sensitivity is messed up. But after I adjusted to super small movements, it was kinda playable. I like the idea of attacking with the scythe and "pulling away" to deal the damage.

m0dsat 2021-10-08 21:50

Such a wierd and interesting take on the theme. I liked flying around. Som music would have been nice, as the drone gets repetitive quickly. Also I'm not sure I ever really figured out what the game was about, but scything people sure is fun :) Thanks for the game!

zimny11 2021-10-10 09:42

The music is nice, the atmosphere fit well with the tone of the game and the character modes and buildings looks fine. The game could have been made more interactive. Demons could hunt for the souls you collected and tried to eat them, that way player need to fight demons and the demons are more involved. I also think it would be a good idea to make collecting souls more interactive. Maybe, player need to move the mouse in a specific way or press button popping out on the screen in a specific order when they are clinging to the human... Anyway, cool LD entry.

xpoho 2021-10-13 11:28

Трепещи, смертный! Смерть пришла за тобой! Время умереть!

crefossus 2021-10-21 01:19

Great work on the art. I love the mood with the music, fog, color choices, and the collection of souls that you start to amass. I think you mostly know the faults. I played/rated live and clipped a highlight for you here with more thoughts: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1182503536

kr4ft3r 2021-10-21 20:08

Phew, made it just in time to rate. You have achieved amazing amount of things considering it is a compo game, especially towards graphics. While the game feels unpolished, I figure you mainly wanted to convey the feeling of being a grim ripper, and well done in that regard, watching my bony guy float through the night with his cloak fluttering is a great mood piece indeed.

You should have been more clear about controls though, took me a while to figure out right MB followed by left is a way to make a proper swing. Eventually I also figured out how to get people hooked by not swinging at all. Speaking of hooks, it does feel a bit like fishing sim once you have them impaled. Funny that you have to murder entire village to get corruption to zero, but that's humans for ya.

sinci1 2021-11-03 22:59

Props for making this in 3D, it’s ambitious to make any game in 3D, let alone a game jam game! The core cool mechanic feels good, you nailed the sorta tugging feeling, and it is fun as a core concept!

However as you said, you didn’t have enough time, and as such the game is a bit lackluster, mainly in the “point of playing” aspect.

The core mechanic is fun but there’s no real point, as you said there is no win condition [which I had to find out the hard way :p], and there’s no threats either, so it’s more of a sandbox game.

I do think if this game got polished, if there was a sort of “endless-then-upgrade” system, akin to learn to fly 2, I do think this could be somethin’ solid!

As it stands though it is more a proof of concept then a full game, but it’s still fun nonetheless!
