Death effect looks awesome)
I enjoyed this game, it had a really neat concept. I really like the concept of random conditions, but the gameplay felt just a bit lacking.
I like the black and white old school feel. the gameplay is simple but fun.
Love the simplicity of this game. One note, I had to go full screen for the controls to work at all. But once I got that sorted, I do love reversing controls!
Great game, only thing I would improve is that when the debuff appears you move towars wherever you were going. If I was going to the left, the debuff is "it is harder to go to the right" and an obstacle appears near the left wall, it is impossible to dodge. For the rest, pretty good!
Nice simple game! I like that it was clear what the controls were and how they were changing... although reverse controls after reverse controls confused me since I thought they would go back to normal. It is also weird that you keep moving while controls are frozen between levels which sometimes pushed me to the edge to start the next level. Nice death animation!
Simple and to the point. I think everything is about twice as big as it needs to be, which makes it hard to see what is coming ahead of you. You could also have oriented the playing area vertically. Maybe sped it up as you went farther down instead of just increasing the number of bombs.
Overall nice entry and effort!
Nice game, had fund playing this :)
First of all, thank you for all the comments and love. This is my first game jam and I very happy with the result.
@ianthebee I think about it more like a proof of concept so it is really missing a lot of gameplay improvements.
@hestrateja and @minibobbo Very nice suggestions!
For all the others, thanks for the compliments! It means a lot to me because I just started learning pixel art.
I love your game, the idea of changing controls is very cool ! Fun to play :)
I made it to 198. I liked the graphic, maybe some crunchy sound would add more to it, although I enjoyed mixing up the controls. Good idea!
I'm not sure what happened when I was playing it, but the controls kind of didn't respond at times and then worked like normal controls, so the different modes that were dispayed didn't seem to have any effect. And each time the new effect came up, all obstacles were cleared. This might have been on purpose but it always happend before the character would reach even the first obstacle, so it really didn't matter where it was falling, nothing ever touched the character. I let it fall to about the score 500, but I suppose there was something wrong with my experience? Running in Firefox on Windows, not fullscreen.
Idea of messing with players controls is cool! But I think it should happen not that often) nice entry)
I love the switching mechanics, it kept the game fresh. Great work here thanks.
Nice sprites! I think the colliders could be a little bit smaller, sometimes when the colliders fit perfectly the shape of the sprites the collisions seems a bit unfair, because you touch the bomb with a pixel of the hair. Nice idea to mess with the controls, it would be nice not stopping the gameplay though, maybe you can swap sprites when inverting controls, make the button smaller when is difficult to move in one direction, you can also add a sound when that happen to warn the player. Congratulation on completing your project! :D
Thanks for making this a browser game
Cute game with endearing graphics! Clear concept with straightforward controls! Great Job (:
Nice job! The game was simple but well done. I liked the twist of messing with the player controls to add some variety.
Very simple game. I liked the random events, they aren't seen very often in this kind of game and they forced me to change my playstyle quite a bit, which was cool. I played a few rounds and always got to about 200 points, seems like there's a point at which you always lose no matter what.
My suggestion would be to make the camera vertical, so you have more time to react to obstacles, and then you can work on things like increasing the speed.
Keep it up!
Nice game, i really like how did you make it harder with changing the player control.
Simple, but lovely. Had fun for a couple minutes. My only complaint is that you can't control your character when the random conditions show up.
Now I know what's worse than falling down a building: Falling down a building with bombs in your way! I like the concept. It's simple, but creative. Everything worked like a charm and I like that you display a highscore at the end. Here's mine:
