Don’t worry about engine problems, there’s nothing to complain 😊 A good game that follows the theme, has depth and is actually fun to play is a really well done for a weekend. I really liked the simple tutorial and the intro. Solid entry, good job!

rhewid 2020-10-05 02:50

This game is hard but fun. Enjoyed it! Nice that there was a tutorial!

bukkaketears 2020-10-05 08:16

Nice one, of course I've skipped tutorial and after that it wasn't obvious for me how to shot. :face_palm_tone2: Beside that, it looks cool, it's fully qualified mini game! I didn't finish it though.

Nice entry!

a4x8e6 2020-10-05 08:42

Nice art and game idea! The difficulty increase on each loop keeps it fresh, and the idea to pick up spent shotgun shells as ammo on the next loop is great

neragoth 2020-10-05 11:16

I really liked the concept, the difficulty that increases with each loop is a great idea. I would have liked the shooting loop to be a shorter one. Nothing wrong with the graphics, they are perfect. Great game ;)

wouter-deferme 2020-10-05 11:50

I like these kind of hard-to-beat games. The game has great graphics and a nice game-feel to it. Only made it to lvl 3, will play again!

letterafterz 2020-10-05 13:11

Ah nice and hard. This was great fun to play, I feel like I'll be back for some more.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-05 13:41

Thank you great to hear!

peche-et-tradition-1867 2020-10-05 19:11

Nice, would be great to move faster each loop but otherwise the game has a good feeling

pronomicalartist 2020-10-05 20:44

Yeah, great game, and well executed.

galse87 2020-10-05 22:56

The mage enemy and the skeleton one feel really cheap. IMO, I should not be able to go from 3 to 0 health. What I'd like the game to have is: if you take damage, you become invulnerable for like 0,6 seconds or so. Also, please consider making a Web build on your next games.

badpiggy 2020-10-06 03:24

Loved the mechanic of the shotgun shells firing after a period of time, moving around a looping level was cool as well. The pixel art was simple but was really cool and effective. Great job overall :)

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 06:48

@galse87 I thought I had added a 0.8 sec invincibility time but turns out that I had forgoten it and hadn't noticed that it wasn't present (I should get better att writing stuff down ). A Web build for my next game is a great idea. Thanks for the feedback

galse87 2020-10-06 09:28

@pixelmoose-studio oh ok. I probably forgot a thing or two I wanted to do. Web builds are ( IMO ) good cuz people usually don't like downloading stuff.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 10:06

@galse87 Okay. thank you for letting me know. this whas my first ludum dare and tips and feedback like this are great for future improvments

galse87 2020-10-06 10:16

@pixelmoose-studio also my first Ludum Dare. I said that because this usually happens in other jams.

shubart 2020-10-06 15:55

Nice game. Cool graphisms and music. Thnak you for your game

watermelonandme 2020-10-06 16:01

Amazing graphics! Gameplay is ok too. Nice to see such great games!

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 16:49

@shubart @watermelonandme thank you :smiley:

xeltide 2020-10-06 20:26

Considering I didn't play the tutorial and just jumped in, I'm glad there was enough leeway to get situated with how the game worked. Really good job and a nice mesh of mechanics!

cad 2020-10-06 20:38

Very easy to understand the mechanics! I made it to loop 3 on the first try. Solid controls, and I love that you can pick up old shots from previous loops.

m-trigo 2020-10-06 20:39

Really good job. It's crazy how much having the shells lie around after you fire adds to feel of the game.

My one request for the game is being able to hit multiple enemies with a single shot!

Moving to the right spot to line up enemies just before the shot would add a nice layer of depth. It would also create an interesting decision where sometimes you'd want to ignore enemies to save ammo and time, only to try and kill several enemies together in the next loop. That would be a nice player-driven risk-reward dynamic.

gonzalol 2020-10-06 20:43

It's pretty fun to play. Nice pixel art and controls (thank you for including a tutorial)

shaolin-dave 2020-10-06 20:54

Graphics were cute. The auto-shooting threw me off a bit, I'm wondering if it's actually necessary for the game. I did like the progressing difficulty in enemies.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 21:19

@m-trigo thanks for the feedback  You should be able to hit multiple enemies with one shot (if they are right after one and another), the only thing holding that back would be the range off the shots. The bullets doesnt travel very far. But increasing the range off the gun would result i more multikills wich would not unly be fun but also a great game mechanic where skill is encouraged

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 21:27

@shaolin-dave i was on the fence about having the gun on a loop to, I added it because I hoped it would separate it from similar games and bring some more depth to the game where you would learn to time your shots and also forcing you to move forward, punishing slow players with the hazard off having a empty gun for the rest off the loop. In hindsight i could probably have gone about that mechanic in some smarter way. Thanks for the notes

rhoff95 2020-10-06 21:40

Would like to see a WebGL version!

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-06 21:55

@rhoff95 Noted: going to make sure my future games have it

marinee 2020-10-06 22:00

very pretty style!and funny music! cool play!

peachtreeoath 2020-10-07 03:23

The concept is immediately understandable and intriguing when you fire it up, that's one thing I really like about the idea - the player knows what they're about to get into. What I didn't expect was having to pick up the ammo as I looped around. That was very clever and it made me be more careful about my trail as I was moving around.

I think the gun on autofire was a great idea. It forced me to occasionally deviate from my route just to optimize my attack. A standard twinstick shooter is kinda boring imo, since it's been done so much and there's not much depth to the gameplay.

For a similar example to your shooting mechanic, see Archero. It has "stop in place to fire", so now you have a tradeoff between dodging vs dps. Against an enemy that fires a lot, that's a very daunting thing to manage, and one that's more interesting to me than circle strafing while firing willynilly.

I really liked that the speed picked up, it came in at a good time when I had thought "uh oh, don't know if I can do 10 loops of this." so great timing there. I did eventually die immediately to a multi-shot which was a bummer. I mistakenly assumed I would have invincibility after getting hit haha.

Very solid game, great ideas overall!

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-07 07:15

@peachtreeoath thanks for the amazing review, great that you loved it. You where suposed to be invincible around a sec after getting hit so you could not be damaged multiple times at once, but i forgot to implement that mechanic

purpledartfrog 2020-10-07 11:08

This has a very nice feel to it and like the palette with which the art has been made  this was really fun to play - which to me is the most important of the ratings ... so big :thumbsup_tone1: for that

:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-07 11:54

@purpledartfrog thanks that means alot

ninjacatz 2020-10-07 13:53

The game looks funny and is somewhat reminiscent of ETG (EnterTheGungeon). After 3 rings it becomes quite difficult, but if you use dodge, you can speed up and go faster than you will lose all lives.

duck-reaction 2020-10-07 17:22

Very nice retro gaming style ! The first two loops are little boring, but after that the game become more chalenging and stressfull. I really enjoyed play it ( I lost at 7nd loop  ). Everything is polish, easy to understant the game mechanic, specially with the tutorial.

Amazing game

PS : I love the music !

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-08 08:12

@duck-reaction thank you :smile:

yword 2020-10-08 09:32

Fun and nice implementation of the theme! Maybe it will be more challenging to add a timer so that player must finish the loop in time... ^_^

sanojian 2020-10-08 09:35

I loved this game. It is my favorite of the compo so far. My only criticism is the auto-firing shotgun did not really add to the fun. It might have been better to let the player choose when to shoot. Also, the ammo shells could be a different color to avoid confusion. All in all, the best game I have played so far.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-08 10:33

@yword Great Idea!

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-08 10:41

@sanojian Thank you that means alot, I wanted to try something different so i thought makining the shotgun auto fire would add some depth because you need to constantly be moving forward so you dont risk having to finnsih a loop without ammo. Thinking about it later mabe having the shootgun on a "loop" wasn't my gratest idea

mumaitron 2020-10-08 15:15

I am a big fan of roguelikes & roguelites and I found this a fun little game, the concept is well executed to fit the theme and is an original idea! good job!

local-minimum 2020-10-08 16:02

Interesting game. I made it to loop 8. In the beginning I was taking care to shoot things, but towards loop 6 or so I realized that it wasn't really neccessary and it actually became simpler when I focused on running fast past everything. The idea of the auto-shooting rifle was interesting though, even though I was annoyed until I noticed what it was doing. It wasn't clear to me either which shells I could pick up or not, or if the collision was a bit strange on it. Maybe there should be a stronger insentive to kill enemies too? Making next loop more crowded than otherwise if you leave too many behind. Give extra shells or health or something? Give the dash ability once per kill?

sininenblue 2020-10-08 16:07

Really fun game with some great mechanics and some pretty sounds. I only really had 2 issues which was I kept confusing the used bullets with bullet pickups and that everything was a bit too slow, at least for my taste. An increase in movement speed, bullet speed and difficulty ramp up would be really fun

solmir2000 2020-10-08 16:33

really nice game , its pretty and fun to play, my only problem was that my fps dropped really low during loop 9 and 10 (on the right side of the loop on the big red carpet it felt like 5 to 10 fps). good entry nonetheless.

laurari 2020-10-08 17:08

Good game, I like a lot the art  I just got to the 2nd loop... btw, we have the same game name, so our URL adds a "-2" at the end

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 08:17

@local-minimum thankyou, These are som great ideas! it would definitely spice up the gameplay

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 08:20

@Sineblue thanks, increasing the speed could be realy intresting

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 08:26

@solmir2000 glad you liked it and that you made it that far. This game seems to have a big fps problem. This seems to be a problem with the game engine im using. I should probably switch to a more reliable game engie

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 08:34

@laurari I would have been supriced if I would have been the only one with the game named LoopHole, the fact that both of them booth are a Bullet Hell type games are pretty funny

life-lich 2020-10-09 13:21

it is pretty smart way you are using the loop and I really liked the auto shooting, it made that you had to think more about where you where, because you couldn't control when it would go off. I did find it a shame, that there was no good reason to kill monsters with made the game play only about walking in a bullet hell, there are many ways to add purpose to killing monsters, gain dashes from killing, to kill x amount to proceed, simple score system, monster drop bullets, though I would rather not see that, since the bullet refresh mechanic was really nice, but beside that it is a really good entry.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 14:54

@life-lich thanks for the feedback, im glad you liked it, looking back i should probably added a reward for killing monsters.

marcusuke 2020-10-09 15:58

Very good job! The core gameplay is fun, but adding a couple simple things could make it way more engaging, like for example rewarding the player for chain killing at the beat without skipping or missing.

Also, I would add the 'loading' circle for the bullet cooldown on the cursor, not on the bottom right corner.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-09 19:15

@marcusuke glad you liked it, and those are some realy great ideas

chaosinism 2020-10-10 16:40

Great animation and sound effects, especially when shooting. It is also a wise design how the player's actions in one loop influence the next loop.

geckoo1337 2020-10-10 21:13

Well done - fun little game with an amazing aesthetic. There is a auto shooting which I understand so as to fit with the theme, but this game could be more enjoyable without. I really appreciate playing. Thank you for this funny game ++

etrealjunior 2020-10-12 19:47

I really liked your game, I thought it was very humorous, I thought I would follow that common pattern of shooting all the time, but this mechanics of waiting to load and shoot gave a great fun to your game, I made an art and I will mark you on the blog main, a big hug.

trexxak 2020-10-12 21:11

the theme for this ld makes for some really interesting mechanics, but I feel this one may be one of my favourites yet! I really liked the decision making in later loops whether to kill or just run for it with every single shot. Well done!

matchaflavor 2020-10-12 21:24

Came here after seeing @etrealjunior post about it :) Show him some love when you can. :green_heart:

This is definitely one of my favorites by far. You took the theme and incorporated the mechanics just flawlessly. If I really had to nitpick for anything wrong, I saw my mouse cursor when playing the game and there were some grammatical issues, but that's it.

This was just so wonderfully executed I'm so impressed. Well done!

ukulelefury 2020-10-12 22:38

Wow, very fun! I love the graphics, the music and sfx are good, the intro was excellent, and the gameplay is solid! A bit more variety of play (speed, items, something...) as you progress could be nice, but this was great! It also looks like there are some slight artifacts between pixels at the edges of some animation frames.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-13 10:47

@etrealjunior thank you so mutch. Im glad you enjoyed it and the shooting mechanic  Big hugs back thanks for putting me on the blog

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-13 10:48

@trexxak Im glad that you enjoyed it

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-13 10:51

@matchaflavor Makes me happy that you liked it, the mouse cursor seems to be a gun in the game engine right now and I noticed the grammatical errors when the game jam had ended :no_mouth:

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-13 10:54

@ukulelefury Thanks for the feedbak, some variation would not be such a bad idea.

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-17 07:12

fun little game, nice that I could pick shells from last round, made it to the third loop. I could use more health. nice sprites. good job
