Nice game, plays well and the graphics are nice, well done!
Interesting game idea, but after a while it felt frustrating that you have to play the whole level again, when you die. Some checkpoints would have been nice!
That was suuuper interesting mechanic you had there! Great job ^^ Also loved how you did the tutorial, huge props on that too!
The death-sound was maybe a biit too loud compared to other audio but overall that wasn't a huge problem
I liked the story telling. I liked the cool trap idea but it gets frustrating without check points and i felt like movement was a bit too floaty. But overall i liked it
This is really good to be your first time! You succeeded in making the game hard. Thought I outsmarted you at some points, but alas... Great that you added a tutorial at the beginning, not many people take (or have) the time to do that. Looking forward to seeing your next game!
I couldn't finish the game because I got frustrated at level 3 or 4, when you start the level by dropping down. It's a bit glitchy, I died sometimes because my avatar did some small jumps for no reason or because the hitbox seems bigger than the sprite itself. I'm sorry I couldn't go further but I think it has some great potentials !
Déjà vu is a nice game that comes with a proper about screen. That alone is worth soo much.
The menu UI seems very polished and has this subtle understatement.
This game does well: - :heavy_plus_sign: nice menu - :heavy_plus_sign: nice tutorial - :heavy_plus_sign: interesting game idea - :heavy_plus_sign: nice character silhouette and animation - :heavy_plus_sign: the death effect is better than it seems, I learned to love it. Kaboom!
Could make this even better: - :heavy_plus_sign: :heavy_plus_sign: softer, more varied sounds would make this game really shine - :heavy_plus_sign: :heavy_plus_sign: if you increase the jump force and the gravity, you get a more deliberate jump and run feel - :heavy_plus_sign: :heavy_plus_sign: the camera could lead the character at least 1/6th of the screen width because some jumps are hard to see
All in all a solid game entry with an interesting, if vexing core mechanic.
For me: - Sound of death should be a little quiter - Maybe some checkpoints?
For first game is ok. But I don't get a concept of game.
@merlinnsound @sertu @harksa @szatku I noticed the issue with the checking points. My idea was to give a lot of penalty when you die. But I guess I can fix it by having linear dificulty though more levels.
@harksa sorry about that the physics took me so much time I am going to fix the jump and hit boxes after the Jam finishes the voting round.
@kultisti @szatku About the sound... sure! Next version will be better =D
@thygrrr thnk you for your feedback. I will defenetely improve the sounds in general and check the jump. what you want to mean by "the camera could lead the character at least 1/6th ..." item?
It's a very cool concept. Sometimes the controls weren't as responsive as I'd like, but an impressive effort for a solo developer! :)
This starts as a hard platformer and becomes a trial and error galore, I got until the very end, but I think hardness != randomness, the trap tiles do not have a foreseeable pattern thus making a bit tedious having to re-play the same level over and over, the character hitbox felt a bit bigger than the character itself, which made difficult to land precise jumps. On the other side, the art style is great, Loopy reminded me a lot of the protagonist from limbo and the different patterns for the tiles are really creative, was a frustrating but rewarding experience overall, would love to play more of this if the gameplay gets a bit more forgiving
@thomas-volpato Leading the screen a little ahead of where you are moving really helps anticipate and understand the level. Here's how Mario did it, and it's still a good system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01AHrMZ2Qvs
The player is never really at the center and the logic behind it is super simple.
I think it should be made clearer that some of the floating tiles can be passed through :p I thought they were solid walls at first and thought the level was broken.
You did quite well on your first 2D game with Unity3D. The gfx and character animations were done well. I really liked the dying animation and to me the death sounds wasn't too loud but I'm also not wearing headphones when I play. The movement felt good to me but I did notice that the character would slide off the edge of a block onto the block below it. I suspect this is because the bottom collider on the player is a circle. Other than that it was a good game. Congrats on finishing and submitting your game!
I really liked the effect when you died, it made me smile. The sounds in the background were very atmospheric! It got a little frustrating that I _had_ to hit a tile but could only guess which one would kill me and then get sent back to the start  then again maybe I'm just unlucky! great job :)
Played it on stream. As I mentioned, I think is supposed to reward players by memorizing patterns, yet the game keep changing the rules of the pattern-to-value and the game becomes a guessing game rather than memorizing platformer. The foundation is good, just need switching from gameplay perspective. Keep up the good work and welcome to the gamedev community!
For a first game with Unity you did pretty well and are courageous! Effort has been put on the animations and I didn't notice any bugs whatsoever, you cna be proud !
Now the critics x') on't take them too harshly, I know it's your first game jam and stuff, don't worry, it's only for you to see where you could improve (And chances are you already know half of them) The game doesn't look good at all, which is normal you know, but still, sorry, even more sorry because you animated the character decently. The controls are very rigid, not very pleasant to play, you could have made him jump higher, fall faster, not stay stuck againsts walls, etc... The concept in itself is just punishment for the player, it's a basic idea of die an retry without game design depth behind, I found it pretty frustrating, but I guess it's a loop in some way and you managed to do exaclty what you said you wanted to do, so it's a success ahah.
Anyway, congrats for this entry!
Great first 2d game! The character is animated well, and the UI is brilliant. We didn't even get to add a settings and about menu to our game! If I were you, I would focus on game design, level design, platformer controls and art. There are loads of tutorials out there on these, and you would definitely be going places if you learnt more about these topics.
For a first game , it's very good !
This is a really good first game! The controls were really stiff but that can always be tweaked if you work on it. Nice!
Having te re-read every dialog when you restart a level is pretty annoying. The rest is pretty cohesive, and to be expected for a first game made by a single person ! Got frustrated at level 4. My small piece of advice would be to try and make the game easier and add other hazards/platform types. When rating games, your player's patience is very low, so they'll prefer novelty over difficulty. Die and retry game get frustrating really quickly if there's not some amazing twist on the idea or mechanic. Take that with a grain of salt, that's just my unfiltered opinion :) Congratz anyway, you're a jammer now !
Graphics are pretty good, i really liked the gameplay mechanics. Great Job !
Hey, I played your game on stream! It was a heap of fun, here's the vod if you'd like to rewatch; https://www.twitch.tv/videos/781363405
Thanks for submitting your game!
This was an entertaining game, altough as some people already pointed out, it's a bit frustrasting having to repeat all the level on each death. I also disliked a bit that it is a "try and error" instead of really guessing where is it safe to step. Nevertheless I kept playing until the end, so good job! ;-)
Hey, this is really nice for your first jam! The graphics and sounds are great (though some music would have been fantastic), and the gameplay itself too, but as other people have said, I found it a bit frustrating. Overall, a pretty fun game, so congratulations!
