The first text adventure I've played in like, 12 years. The music and sfx create a really nice atmosphere. Unless I missed it, an option to click to progress the text more quickly would be a welcome addition. Nice job!

blipbloop 2020-04-20 15:22

It really enjoyed this! The sound design really sells the atmosphere

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU TRY TO HUG THE MONSTER!?

adamwatters 2020-04-20 15:31

@gamedoodles yeah I wanted to add an option to the title screen to change that but ran out of time in the end.

@blipbloop thanks for playing. Glad you liked the sound, it took hours to get it to work

I'll go check both of your games out.

The simplicity of the game's art is really nice. I like how the screen never got over crowded. The music was really nice to listen to as well :D One of the most polished games I've played so far!

itsonrandom 2020-04-20 17:20

Only because you asked, spotted a typo on the first screen: * **First frame:** There are six different music tracks in the game so `ake` sure to have your sound on!

Really liked the game though! I hugged the monster, it did take me back to a different dialogue and the monster vanished which I suppose was a good thing!

We get into the story very easily. The audio fits well. Nice entry!

I love it. Text based game is so fun, I still remember many (many) years ago when I played my first text based game :-) Nice game though! haha, of course I hugged the monster, so I needed to start over. Nice story, great sound effects. God job!

Good. Really good. The music really adds a dimension to the game. Text adventures are old school, but I guess I'm old enough... I like!

wittycognomen 2020-04-20 19:46

Can't hug the monster? I'm afraid that's going to cost you a few points.

Otherwise quite a solid entry.

Text speed could have been faster.

cogcomp 2020-04-20 19:58

Hehe I agree with @wittycognomen :-) Hugging the monster was the first thing I did :-) Nice mood. Well done!

Sweet ambiance and a quite intriguing plot! Not sure why games like these always has a timer that kills you though, always feels so unnecessary. Good shit still, really enjoyed it!

nikor 2020-04-20 20:03

The music is really good for setting the mood. Thank you for the game :)

Very well written game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/6SpOkik3XNg

My favorite so far. Great game. Good job!

adamwatters 2020-04-20 21:45

@jupiter-hadley Thanks! The video looks great.

SPOILERS! - Small bug: after dying due to the torch running out, trying to start the game again puts me immediately into the game over screen. I can avoid the bug by loading a save, so it's not too big of a deal. - Whoever manages the generator house did not pass password security 101. - I like the little parallel between the starts of the two endings. - Completion time: 34:29. With two coffees and two decoys to spare! Although, the monster only ever seemed to get farther and farther away from me, so I didn't really need the decoys. If anything, it was the torch that was the main source of death.

The music really helps set the atmosphere, the writing was clear and atmospheric really good work! I enjoyed exploring the town. One of my favourite compo games I've played so far!

Would have liked fatigue and distance to monster to be a little more prominent, an option to accelerate the fade in with a click would be nice, and finally possibly a bug that my inventory persisted between plays! Very minor issues that don't detract from this.

emmanuel-gaillot 2020-04-21 20:52

Adventure game. Yay! For some reason I couldn't hear the music. Not sure why. I liked the minimal interface and the mood. Maybe I'm missing few images with the text. Hugging the monster was cool - although deadly.

velvetlobster 2020-04-25 00:04

I was really digging that tune

workshopcraft 2020-04-26 21:25

loved the game, I remember some of my first ever games were text adventures. The only problem I had was the inability to control the volume of the sound (either levels or on/off). everything else was great

philstrahl 2020-04-27 03:55

That was surprisingly big for a text adventure written in such a short timeframe! The writing was very good and together with the music it created a sense of place rather easily in my imagination as I was playing it. I just wish that it would have been possible to switch off the torch when I wouldn't need it anymore but having the inventory in the sidebar was genius! I enjoyed it very much, although I was save-scumming a lot and had to start over once 😅 Here's the video with my playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2FekepgpMs

monish-vyas 2020-04-27 07:35

I really loved the game. Text adventure with good writing is always fun to play. After figuring out the generator password, I kept on dying from either fatigue or the monster. Felt stuck a bit and couldn't complete. Overall a fun experience. Would love to finish it maybe later.
