BURN FINGER BUURN !

polyorbit-studio 2020-04-21 01:10

The game is nice ! But not that easy with a none Qwerty keyboard ;)

matt2728 2020-04-21 01:14

Concept seems cool, but I got a little stuck. Nevertheless cool project!

edit: oh I figured it out. If anyone else gets stuck you need to hold the fire next to the hand-print on the wall and it will turn red and it will open a passage.

Great project!

pathus22 2020-04-21 01:19

the keys are so wire! the background music is great and the art is good. the game is not so fun but the theme is done correct. the mood is great. Keep the good work and see you in the next ludum dare.

ldf-productions 2020-04-21 01:27

Creepy and cool game, a little bit hard to understand what to do sometimes but still a very good idea!

nachodlv 2020-04-21 01:28

hard to figure out what to do at the beginning. Really like the idea

sylvainpv 2020-04-21 01:37

What an interesting concept ! A bit confusing at first, but when you understand that fire goes from one finger to another, it clicks ! I went until the pentagram with the human parts, then I am stuck. I don't know if it is a bug or not, but the camera is very close at the end and I need to raise 3 fingers to get some light. This makes the game quite difficult ! Anyway, love the concept and atmosphere. Music stops to play after a while, you may want to add a loop to avoid the windy silence :) Well done !

zaphire 2020-04-21 01:51

Cool idea, love the burning fingers effect an how you have to manage the burns

maryush28 2020-04-21 02:08

Pretty cool game! Although the snowman had troubles hitting me. As I was approaching him, he was increasing the speed of balls thrown at me, which were disappearing few pixels before me :D It's nice that the game is complete. I would just work on objects path and move time a bit, but i think it's a something to work on the next LD ;) Good music choice for the game.

no-grapes-games 2020-04-21 03:12

Neat concept, took a minute to understand. Playing on a QWERTY keyboard definitely added some challenge. Mouse movement felt a little off from time to time, hard to pin down why. Overall innovative and atmospheric!

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-21 07:45

Wow went to sleep ultra tired after rushing the end, I was proud of what we had done but I wished we had more time to polish and made the flow more easy to understand and then we recieve all these positive comments ! Thank you for that really ! It's awesome

artoo 2020-04-21 11:01

This reminded me of findind weird scary games from my old Amiga discs that I couldn´t understand :>

zyro 2020-04-21 11:56

I liked the mechanic of passing the flame from finger to finger and having to "manage your hand", got quite far through but couldn't figure out how to get through the small black door.

elesz 2020-04-21 12:11

Yes e have to fix the sprite. It's normally a button that you have to push with your had !

fabien-parisot 2020-04-21 16:52

A beautiful originality, at the beginning I struggled with the keys, but spending a minute it seemed instinctive, good choices of key. I love this dark atmosphere which is both funny and funny! The sense of urgency that accompanies our quick ride is perfect for the theme. the graphics are also very cool! nice project!

k-baskakova 2020-04-21 17:33

I had to play many times to understand. I was very nervous, and was dissatisfied with everything. Therefore, I can say that I liked the game! It is very original, beautiful and entertaining! It’s a pity, I didn’t get to the end :)

black-flag 2020-04-21 18:41

The atmosphere of this game is very good, as well as the core mechanic being very unique! Overall, this is a very good jam entry!

joemid 2020-04-21 19:31

Very difficult for me- but I'm not coordinated. Had a look at the other comments and thought I'd take another go. I think the problem is- I was playing on a laptop touchpad. Spent a little more time and got through the horrors! Worked best for me with the keys and touchscreen. Love the concept and the art- the burning fings- so cool. Great job and thanks for the game!

finger.jpg

lol no offense- this is the only screenshot I was able to grab before my soul was extinguished ;)

hornicar 2020-04-21 22:14

Thanks for the comments! It's actually a miracle that it worked on a touchscreen!

2020-04-22 06:41

I'm a youtuber, your game is very nice! I want to make a video with the best games of LDJam46. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOdTsWE7iIk . Can I find your game also on indiexpo website? The channel is linked with them.

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-22 08:06

Hello @torh ! You can't right now but i'm going to check it out and upload the game on it if you want so. It's is very humbling that our game interest you for a video. Let's keep each other in touch and see what happens !

2020-04-22 08:14

you are welcome! Take me tuned!

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-22 08:38

@torh alright you can find the game here : https://www.indiexpo.net/fr/games/soul-blazer ! Enjoy and feel free to keep us in touch about the video and if you need anything

akronsus 2020-04-22 13:29

Hm I dont know what to make of it. The Concept definitely has potential, but in its current state it is just not that fun. The bugs are just too distracting: - fire not always propagating to other fingers, although there is still flesh on them - fire not illuminatiog the surroundings - camera scaling problem at the pentagram, so it is inverted at first and then wont zoom out enough to see anything

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-22 13:52

I'm sorry for all the bugs, I wish I had more time to fix them but maybe we were a bit too ambitious on feature and should have focus more on actualy getting the game done properly @akronsus

akronsus 2020-04-22 14:49

@lukas-tamayo you don't have to be sorry for the bugs xD You three only had 76 hours. In that time bugs are expected. But it's sad, the bugs I encountered in your game made it unbeatable at the end :/ I hope you had fun making the game and fun in general participating. We sure did :D

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-22 15:28

@akronsus I know but with just a tiny bit more of management I think we could have a better game with less feature but way less game breaking bugs. We had tons of fun and this game is actualy well recieved wich fill us with joy. As everyone that give feedback i'll definitly end up playing your game and give some feedbacks so expect to see me there !

wekri 2020-04-22 20:46

After playing this game my finger feld like sticking on the branches of your "fingertree" XD The controles are not that intuitive but this is the charm of the game. The graphics are a bit too gory for my taste but the gamplay is awesome!

svarttand 2020-04-23 10:14

Really nice concept and game for the theme. Here is a the video of me playing the game:

https://youtu.be/YxWOQgzSafU

The music was nice but it felt slightly too epic for being in a dungeon, but im no expert at music. A thing that i can comment about the music is that it cut of at some weird places so instead of rough cuts, you could make them smoother by just lowering the volume in steps. It was a nice touch to have the fingers only light up when an adjacent finger was lit.

All in all a really good game!

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-23 11:11

That's so helpfull thank you @svarttand ! Some stuff like that we are very aware of. We didn't want to make rough cut but didn't have the time to just make the smooth transition. Also we wanted to at least mix the different volumes but I didn't get to play the game even now ! Hahaha ! We also wanted to give more feedback with particle systems to show that something is burning or how certain things you do with you fingers affect your environment.

Anyway thank you so much for your comments and for the video. I really appreciate.

hornicar 2020-04-23 12:43

Thanks @svarttand for the feedback ! The video is very usefull to see where people actually had trouble understanding. But it seems like you had a good run and understood the finger mechanics quite fast, wich is great !

boargames 2020-04-23 16:29

I was very interested in the game, it seems to have a good mechanic, but i could not understand how to advance in the game, i tried to to the action told in the sign, but didn't work. I don't know if you have any specifc reason to choose these keys, but i don't see as a good choice.

hornicar 2020-04-23 17:53

Thanks for the feedback @boargames Open the first door can be a bit tricky, as you have to make the sign with flames in the corresponding fingers. you can see a good video of @svarttand doing it. Cqn you be more specific about the controls ? you can use AWER and space with an english keyboard (in-game controls show the french version), wich is what we thought as the most comfortable position with your left hand laying on the keyboard.

helenejeanbon 2020-04-24 06:04

super fun concept :D (too scary for me, I was stressed the music fits well !) I started again so many times but was so much impatient and didn't wait that the hand became red, so I couldn't get out of the first room ! thanks @svarttand for the video :D

vernalbehemoth 2020-04-24 07:26

Haha that sound track got EPIC!! nice game mechanic with lighting the fingers and movement. I was a little confused at first as I could move without lighting any fingers but other than that I enjoyed it alot. The ring and ring finger teleport thing was a great touch too!

generictoast 2020-04-24 17:39

A very cool game with a great mood/atmosphere! The gameplay was really fun and enjoyable.

mobiledev 2020-04-24 17:42

I liked the weird concept for the game. The atmosphere felt great. Aside from some bugs, I enjoyed the game. Well done.

norris-eldridge 2020-04-24 17:48

Very cool entry! I think the art and sound design are great. There's probably a little bit of clean up work to be done around the wall corners to the lighting doesn't show that overlap and it looks consistent. But overall, really solid from a polish stand point.

I was a bit lost at first though and had to turn to the comments to get me going. But once I knew want to do and started going, I thought it was a really unique and interesting concept. So, with that, I think that just trying to make the initial room a little more obvious and guiding the player towards the first door would go a long ways towards making players aren't lost. Perhaps some cryptic markings on the floor or something like that.

hornicar 2020-04-24 17:49

@helenejeanbon Glad you liked the game! Would you enjoy a playthrough of the game ?

@VernalBehemoth Thanks ! @elesz had a lot of fun finding the most epic sounds she could get! Can you be more specific about the ring finger teleport ? It seems like you found a feature we didn't know existed ^^ (these game is getting weirder and weirder)

@GenericToast You sumerized what we wanted to achieve, so this means a lot to us !

@mobiledev Thanks! I guess we're just a bunch of weird guys that likes to make weird games... Glad you liked it!

hornicar 2020-04-24 18:03

@norris-eldrige Thanks for this thourough feedback. It was my first time doing art for a video game and I must admit I learned it the hard way. We realied ther's just a little fix we could do to change this lighting but, but that's the hard truth of jam sessions right ?

It is true that doing the first room 45 minutes before uploading the game (and with -3 days of sleep) was not our best idear. We should have made a smaller room indeed, so you could see the door directly. We also think explaining how fire can spread from fingers to fingers would have been a great help too.

vernalbehemoth 2020-04-24 18:37

@hornicar HAHA i just tried it again, and it didn't work :(

I teleported back to the tree when I light my ring finger on the ring that is on the floor. I guess it was coincidence :D you shouldnt of said anything and just taken credit ;)

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-24 19:00

( It was me, I've hidden this finger tp functionality, totaly totaly meant that to happen, yep )

sciman101 2020-04-24 19:07

_Thank you_ for putting in checkpoints - so many LD games leave out checkpoints or save systems and it can be infuriating. As for the rest of the game, I liked it! the body horror imagery felt perfectly creepy, and the premise in general with the candle-fingers was really interesting. Some elements felt a little out of the blue, though, like the snowman enemy and loud buzzers, compared to the old castle vibe. It was also a little frustrating to let go of a key accidentally for a second, only to have to go back to the most recent checkpoint, especially at the ending. Overall, though, this wasn't enough to ruin the game for me, though, and I had fun! Good job

lukas-tamayo 2020-04-24 19:43

Thank you @sciman101 for these in depth feedbacks ! We will definitly take notes and try to have a more cohesive art direction next time around hahaha

tweedle 2020-04-26 11:41

nailed the mood and dark artstyle, one of the more unique jams i've played so far - keep up the nice work!

marcusnystrand 2020-04-27 20:15

Very interesting and creative concept with the burning fingers. It makes for a more intricate and unique puzzle-like experience. Well done!

hornicar 2020-04-27 21:42

@tweedle wow I don't know what to say, we didn't expect to get such feedback, thank you so much !

@marcusnystrand Glad you liked it !

randomhuman 2020-05-03 11:05

Gruesome! I was a bit confused at first, but once I figured out how to get out of the first room I really enjoyed it. Art is great and the music is well chosen.
