EDIT: I think the Problem is in my Browser, so I took back my ratings and am rewriting this comment.

very cute game and good unique take on the theme :3

itsdanidre 2020-04-21 17:50

@nikita-demidov [You need to keep x alive before something dies "Keep alive"] I guess I failed at making that obvious

Are you sure there's no audio? There are like 4 different clips throughout the game. As well as a notifier that is seen when you solve it. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

@nai Thanks! :3

lone-wolf 2020-04-21 22:50

@nikita-demidov You're keeping the dumb cat alive (I say that with humor in my voice). Also: There was audio for me, maybe use a different browser

To talk about the game: Nice work! Still stumped on a few of the riddles lol

nnnikki 2020-04-22 14:25

Huh, the one of your website didn't ever load, but the itch one did. Some of the riddles I found to be too cryptic, especially with some objects not being very identifiable at first glance. When I heard of the "golden thing that stores your garments", I thought it meant a clothes hanger. When you have to rely on the player figuring something out based on words, you really need to put a lot of time into playtesting.

edugpinheiro 2020-04-22 22:36

I really liked the aesthetics of the game, particularly the music. The visual are surprisingly enjoyable also! The idea of quick riddle solving is interesting, but I am a little reluctant about the time restraint. Putting pressure in fast reading only stimulates the players to not consume the content you are making - for example, the little introduction to the riddle itself is useless if it doesn't carry valuable information. I would suggest one first screen with the intro without the timer and the timer begins only then you get to the riddle part :)

One minor problem I algo have with the controllers was the use of both mouse and keyboard: the game itself only uses the keyboard, but the menu uses only the mouse - therefore, I was switching perifericals between levels XD I would consider making the mouse more relevant or making the menu interactable through keyboard - perhaps both! Redundancy of inputs is good for the user :D

subtlydramatic 2020-04-23 16:15

I love what you did with the theme. This is definitely what it's like to have a cat X_X

thedouche 2020-04-23 16:20

Nice little game! I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what to do. But once i got that I had a great time!

ordineu 2020-04-23 16:22

This was really good! I loved the cozy artstyle even while I was francitcally trying to figure out which chair the cat had hidden behind (there's quite a few -- I wasn't sure if I was going to be penalized for a wrong guess so I died wondering if there was anything else in the hint).

itsdanidre 2020-04-24 22:21

@lone-wolf thanks! I'll have to work on making riddles easier then.

@nnnikki huh? I verified on my website and it seems to load for me. Are you using Chrome? Thank you for your comments on riddles. I should indeed seek to making them simpler.

@edugpinheiro Thanks for playing! Oh, but indeed! The timer only begins when you get to the riddle part, so if you're meaning something else, please let me know, maybe I am misunderstanding.

I also agree with the keyboard to mouse switch. I will add a key "Press any Key to continue" or something, to the menu screen. Thanks for the suggestion!

@subtlydramatic indeed! :joy: my cat inspired this game!

@thedouche thanks for playing! Do you have any suggestions as to how I can make it easier to understand? Maybe on the "How to Play" screen I can include "Press e to guess objects. If it's wrong, you lose 10 seconds. Guess before timer runs out to win"?

@ordineu  the chairs were the most fun to add, because I indeed wanted that excitement of which one to choose! But alas, you would be penalized for guessing wrong, but not a deadly one lol...I will explain that more in the "How to Play" screen. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for playing everyone!

Give me some time, I'll get to your games now!

adamv 2020-04-25 01:04

Awesome game, I liked it a lot! The graphics were cute and I liked that the music got more frantic as time ran out. I didn't realize at first that I could go to other rooms, the doors weren't super obvious. I also didn't realize that I had to close the riddle to be able to move. The riddles were challenging, but fun! Great work!

iamscissors 2020-04-25 01:11

I really liked that the time counted down as you tried to find the answer to the hints. I also liked the wacky situations. Really creative idea, no bugs and it felt complete. Great level of detail on the house and lots of rooms, great job!

paul-nadan 2020-04-25 01:19

This was really cool! The art was amazing - this game depended on every object being immediately recognizable, and even with pixel art that was always the case. The riddles were challenging enough but still felt fair, and the amount of time given was balanced well between having to solve the riddle quickly but still having time to think. Great work, this was a cute and polished entry!

grentacular 2020-04-25 01:21

I love the idea of a "find the cat" game with all of its antics. I found the riddles a bit obtuse at times, especially considering there are multiple chairs/cacti/beds/etc. in the house and how much time you lose for each wrong guess. I also accidentally pressed the button twice on the same object a few times which caused the penalty twice, so I think it would have been helpful to prevent the player from guessing the same object twice. Overall, though, an enjoyable experience. Nice work!

itsdanidre 2020-04-25 03:21

@adamv thanks for playing! And thanks for the suggestion. I'll include "go to the spaces on the edges to enter another room" in the "How to Play", as well as an image of the rooms outline to this website.

@iamscissors It was quite simple but I'm glad I was able to make it seem complete. I thank @rbatistadelima for the great art and detail. Thanks for playing!

@paul-nadan Thanks for playing! We tried a lot to create possible riddles, although some say that the riddles are quite hard  so hopefully there is a balance to be found.

@grentacular the excitement was trying to guess "which chair" :joy: but I agree, it does have a nerve wrecking effect especially when running out of time. Also, thanksfor pointing out the bug on the objects. Prevent them from being pressed twice. I thought I had that already but I forgot to uncomment an if statement :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for playing!

tatawanda 2020-04-25 18:34

Yes, I like the hide and seek aspect of your game. Overall, the game is quite complete must say, the riddle were quite nice in my opinion (at least the 5 I had) I had trouble with the chairs, I lost, cause i tried the wrong ones before. Cheers !

thermacon 2020-04-25 18:35

This is a pretty good game! Sometimes the riddle were pretty tricky though. The first challenge I got was the only one that really stayed in line with the theme, but maybe I was just missing something. There is definitely lots to explore before you can start to solve the riddles. Overall, great work!

100th-coin 2020-04-25 18:43

Oh man I sure am bad at riddles. Great game, and I loved the artwork.

savvu 2020-04-25 18:44

Looks like a great 90s game with that awesome design! Grat idea of combining a puzzle game with riddles! Congratulations and well done!

jsmailes 2020-04-25 18:47

Nice little game, I like your spin on the theme! The music was really well done and added to the feeling of frantically searching the house. The riddles seemed a bit hard, but maybe that's just me

raomer 2020-04-25 18:48

Damn it kitten, where are thou again?! Loved it, frantically searching for the cat, reading the riddles, save the cat, save the plants....

The riddles where not easy, i must admit. Part of the fun :) Music fits, theme fits. Thx fot his little game :)

loiclegrosfrere 2020-04-25 18:55

It's interesting, we did a "Hide&Seek" game too :p I liked that there is multiple stories

huvaakoodia 2020-04-25 19:20

A unique take to say the least! The riddles are tough (enough), the music is frantic (as it should), and the cat is fantastic (at being a little devil).

I would have preferred a higher detail graphical style due to how small some of the assets are, yet this was not a big problem. The text was sometimes cropped off as the window size is really small for some reason. Lastly, it would be nice if the solved riddles didn't repeat. Instead, once all of the riddles were solved the cat would actually stop messing about and life would become good again.

Nonetheless, great job in all!

itsdanidre 2020-04-26 00:03

@tatawanda I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I didn't get to finish it, but I am satisfied with the results. Thanks for playing

@thermacon I tried my best to get all to somehow with with the theme: Keep plants alive, keep relationship alive, keep cat alive etc :joy: As for exploring, I agree it was something to explore and find, which is why I added a picture of the house's outline in the descriptions above, in hopes it'd give insight.

@blobo  I tried adding both easy and hard riddles to find that balance. It seems like maybe you got the unlucky ones. Regardless, thanks for playing!

@savvu Thanks for playing! It was indeed a new thing for me, so I'm glad it kinda worked out!

@jsmailes  I agree with some of the riddles. And yes, the music is amazing! Thanks for playing!

@raomer Thanks for playing! You understood what we tried to portray in this game so I'm glad the delivery was a success!

@moi93101 woah! I'll check out your game soon!

@huvaakoodia Thanks for the review! Hmm, that's new with the cropped text; I've never experienced that before (during testing or extensive play) I had originally planned for an ending but ran out of time so I just made it loop  Thanks for playing!

huvaakoodia 2020-04-26 10:13

I looked again and it is actually only the very last line *"Press E to continue"* which sometimes gets cropped when using 100% zoom level on Firefox... Yeah, it is not a biggie at all.

Firefox also wants to spell check the text, which is kind of funny.

itsdanidre 2020-04-26 10:18

Ahh. Firefox. I've only tested on Chrome (hence the url name lol)

Thank you for the insight. I will look into fixing the spell checks of the text...lol @huvaakoodia

quadape 2020-05-05 21:14

Very interesting concept and nice cute graphics! I guess, I'm not very good with riddles, but it felt like the game would be more fun (for me) if I had some attempts at pointing at things, instead of a timer, especially, since there's no way for the first-time player to know the layout. Also, the fact that timer goes right away, before you can read the riddle for the first time feels a little unfair. Anyway, good and interesting entry!

itsdanidre 2020-05-06 10:15

@quadape thanks for the play Quad! I agree with the first time layouts though...I thought adding the image layout to the description page here would suffice. I guess not

As for the riddle, you can open and close it repeatedly using R, so the challenge is to decipher the code as well as make random guesses at objects. Again, thanks for playing!
