A clicker game combined with tower defense, now that's something I personally haven't seen before. Fun game to play, but my finger gets quite tired after some time. That's why most clicker games eventually have some sort of way to generate resources over time. Nice graphics with pleasant sound effects. One thing with the UI in the menu, white on bright green isn't the best way for your text to pop out.

One thing I like about Game Maker is these small executables, almost the size of a Super Nes ROM LoL. Man, I really enjoyed this game. An evolution of Clickers. I played a lot and now I have tendonitis. You owe me a doctor appointment!

toppervideogames 2019-10-07 18:37

I was surprised to see that this was a clicker type game. The blending of clicker with tower defense was well done. My hand was tired by the end of it, it would have been nice to have one of the buildings be an auto clicker kind of upgrade. The fire mechanic confused me at first, I thought buildings were being randomly destroyed. Then I unlocked the fire station which made sense, until that was being destroyed. It seems the optimal strategy was to have two fire stations at any time, and build up mines and towers way before houses to get a solid pool of resources and defense ready. Usually a game like this would constrain the number of buildings to the people available to work in them, which would have given more incentive to build houses until waiting until the end when everything was set in place already. Great job getting this made!

Hi nice game. Bit clicky in my opinion ;) but otherwise great game

banjaxe 2019-10-07 19:20

Fun game. Maybe add spacebar as an alternative to clicking? My finger was pretty tired by the end. I died pretty quick first attempt and got the statue on the second. First time I thought the mines could only be built by the stones, and lumberjacks by the trees. At one point my firehouse burnt down, not sure if that's intended? Also one time I tried to exit out of the build menu by pressing escape and lost the game I had going. No problems other than that!

cafearatus 2019-10-08 16:01

Amazing how you did this in such a short time...! :O If you port this to mobile and market it correctly, this could be huge. :) (I'm gonna keep it on my PC because I already love it as a time killer)

Good job!

xcvzxc 2019-10-08 16:05

@veeti-sundqvist thanks! there will be huge update soon, because i am still working on it (it will be Post LD version) so I recommend to leave a follow on my Itch ;)

caberu 2019-10-08 16:11

I love the graphism of your game!

listonos 2019-10-08 16:12

As other have said too much clicking, you need access to buildings that produce automatically early in a clicked game. But cool graphics and a lot of gameplay for compo entry.

xcvzxc 2019-10-08 16:15

thanks for feedbak everyone, I am going to write some quality responses to your comments soon! About too much clicking: At least now I know how NOT to make clicker games, I recommend some auto clicking software haha

ausstein 2019-10-08 16:18

Haha of course I did not read the instructions. Then I saw i win if I build the statue. So I build like 20 houses farmed up to level 15 super quick and won. Great game, nice aesthetics. But the audio was a bit annoying.

evgenimp 2019-10-08 16:21

Neat game! Made me wish for more content which is always a good sign! Cool, very cool.

quix 2019-10-08 16:24

Jitterclick hurt me :(

aret24 2019-10-08 16:26

Nice and cool game!!! I completed the game, but I don't know how anti-fire building defends buildings, because if you place it or not, everything burns as fast as it was before placing it, but anyway graphics were cool!!!

s-yanik 2019-10-08 16:27

A colonization game combined with a tower defense and a click game that seems unlikely but in fact it is a fun and interesting game. Great.

kirbloid 2019-10-08 16:27

Falls under my favorite type of LD games, the ones where you can easily see so many aspects expanded on from an engaging central concept. Building up the town from scratch gives you quite a feeling of progression, making leveling up and placing different buildings really satisfying. Only wished some of the first charged buildings were cheaper so you could see more of the game faster after all that clicking.

griz 2019-10-08 16:44

Now that's a gem right there! Feels like a game which you could release if you feel like spending couple extra days for additional content. I've enjoyed it so much, that I've decided to play again to see how far I can push it past the level 15: Gem.png Then my finger refused to continue cooperating. Couple of loose ideas, which have appeared durning playing: - There could be a building, which autoclicks from time to time - Could use a sell/destroy tower functionality - Make it possible to also collect resources with the keyboard, spacebar for an example - Since build menu takes whole screen, it could pause the game while it is open

Well done on making a fun and good looking game!

xcvzxc 2019-10-08 16:50

@griz actually some of ideas you wrote about were cut from the game beacuse I didnt have time to finish them. My personal record is Level 45. Thanks for playing, and I am glad you enjoyed it :)

emiliabea 2019-10-08 17:07

Decided to play this because our games have the same name :P I really enjoyed it and felt engaged since you can't really waste any time here. Great game :)

xcvzxc 2019-10-08 17:30

@goldenevolution yeah, I actually combined 3 different genres here: tower defense, RTS and clicker. I think this game would also fit well in LD 41's theme "combine 2 incompatible genres". The UI in main menu was made in such hurry (during submission hour) that i dont even blame myself for that.

xcvzxc 2019-10-08 17:35

@gabrielgamedev I think the biggest assets in games are sound effects and music. It would be bigger if i had time to make some nice music (it will be in the Post LD Edition). I think my fingers got a lot more hurt while playtesting this game. I used my nose to submit it.

gabrielgamedev 2019-10-08 18:16

@xcvzxc But this is something I like about Game Maker that is not very possible at Unity. Small builds

shrapx 2019-10-09 16:36

I absolutely hammered my mouse clicks on this game. It looks great, plays great. I find it painful to go back and try again, maybe i just click too much? Nice compo entry!

xcvzxc 2019-10-09 18:03

@toppervideogames Auto clicking is one of the things i didnt manage to implement on time, and I didnt know that it is so important. I regret. Yeah, 2 firehouses strategy is what I meant. Actually RTS system was meant to be much more complicated (population, not only defense but also attack, more resources etc) but then I remembered it's LD and I have only 48h so I simplified the whole idea

xcvzxc 2019-10-09 18:14

@banjaxe Yes, burning firehouse is intended to make game harder and more dynamic. These firemans have so much work that they dont have time to guard their own house. It is like an armor. Armor protects your body but it cant protect itself.

xcvzxc 2019-10-09 18:19

@veeti-sundqvist lets just say i'm not a big fan of mobile games. Most of those games are meant only to addict you and make a lot of money. No real passion and creativity - something I coudnt stand as a gamedev. Just my opinion

cafearatus 2019-10-09 18:56

@xcvzxc I totally get it, I don't think I'd make a mobile game either except maybe a port of my PC game if it's requested  (Or as a quick source to gain funding for a PC project)

le-don 2019-10-10 11:52

Overall great game. But I didn't like the clicking at all. It also seems there's quite some inbalance of the ressources, as I had plenty of rock and wood with just one factory each, but almost no exp or gold.

frenchie 2019-10-13 05:33

This was quite the unique entry! I haven't played a game that combines these different mechanics! I wish I could continue after the game's done to see how high of a level I could get to (I didn't want to restart - my finger wouldn't forgive me :stuck_out_tongue:) I also really liked the aesthetic! It was simple but really effective. Did you draw these in a sprite editor or are they voxel models? It has a very voxel feel to it

xcvzxc 2019-10-13 07:15

@frenchie This is 100% lowres pixel art made using Aseprite. Thanks for playing!

paulhocker 2019-10-16 03:04

this was a fabulous idea and maybe one of the best games i played so far -- awesome job

humphreysmedia 2019-10-23 18:44

Great idea combining two great game mechanics together! Audio and visuals were very suiting to the game, however would've loved there to be a destory or an undo button as if I clicked on the wrong thing to build then I'd have to put it down, rather than selecting something different. Managed to get to level 22 just to see how hard it got, you made a great game!

humphreysmedia 2019-10-24 11:03

Hey, just to let you know I’ve been making Ludum Dare 45 gameplay videos and I’ve put your game in my video! You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/zoLZXTxFt0w

2019-10-31 09:15

Lovely game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/oyFtoUSqXW8
