I love the simplicity of the controls and I think this is very easy to pick up and play! I think that this game has potential :P

aret24 2019-04-30 06:59

Sorry but your game isnt starting up on my pc :(

erukolindo 2019-04-30 06:59

Not the biggest fan of the fact that there are obstacles that kill you instantly, especially since it means starting from the first level again. Other than that it's a nice game

superpokeunicorn 2019-04-30 06:59

That was some pretty fun platforming fare. I like how snappy the character's controls were. Having the character be a piggy bank was a nice way of theming the mechanic. I also enjoyed how you could trade health for upgrades between levels. It was a bit disappointing having to restart from the beginning after one death though, especially when you start introducing bottomless pits. That aside, I enjoyed this game a lot. Nice job!

the graphics are nice and the game plays tight. its frustrating though that you go back to the very beginning when you die.

tayfun 2019-04-30 07:02

Jumping over the spikes looks very hard without double jump. I like platformer games, especially developed with Java;)

kp-cftsz 2019-04-30 07:06

@aret24 It requires Java 8, didn't wanna go with it for this jam but it's what my teammate was using. If you already have Java 8, do you have a stack trace/crash log we can analyze?

bunn1e5 2019-04-30 08:09

The controls are very snappy and that works well in tandem with how difficult it is.

The invisibility frame should allow you to touch spikes at least for their duration. There was a few times where i would get hit by an enemy and it would just nudge me into the spikes killing me instantly and it felt unfair.

The sound effects add to the feeling of getting hit and losing your coins. Pretty good game

svntax 2019-04-30 08:30

Pretty good platformer! The controls work well, and the pixel art is nice. Like others already mentioned, it's a bit frustrating restarting completely after dying.

lexyvil 2019-04-30 09:13

Quite a fun platformer. The instant-death spikes reminds me so much of Megaman. It makes me wonder if it matters losing coins if those spikes kill like that~ The gun really helps with the level with the holes, for sure.

mza 2019-04-30 17:05

I like the literal take on the theme and those spikes get me all the time. Personally, I feel there should be checkpoints at the start of every level but everything else was solid. @kp-cftsz - What engine did you use?

discocatphd 2019-04-30 17:18

This game's a lot of fun! I really enjoy difficult games and this game definitely satisfies that. I will say, however, that having no checkpoints between levels paired with instant-death scenarios is a bit too unforgiving. Other than that I feel the difficulty is both fair and fun, making for an addictive game.

You did a great job marrying time-limit and health mechanics as well as incorporating the theme. That's most certainly where this game shines. I also like the chosen color palette. As far as movement goes, I would suggest not having a set jump height and instead allowing the jump height to vary proportional to how long the space bar is pressed. That would allow the player to have a greater sense of control over the character.

Overall, great work and congrats on making a really fun game!

ultrasonicaeron 2019-04-30 17:34

@MZA The engine was coded by @kp-cftsz themselves, actually! The engine itself was created before LD44, but the game itself was built upon the custom engine.

kp-cftsz 2019-04-30 17:53

@discocatphd Thank you for the feedback. Variable jump heights were definitely on the agenda but they were one of those finishing touches I couldn't get around to squeezing in before the deadline

geckoo1337 2019-04-30 18:52

Really good entry - a fun platformer game. The controls are smooth and the main mechanic works like a charm. I enjoy how you could trade health for upgrades between levels - and it fits perfectly with the choosen theme. It was a bit disappointing having to restart from the beginning but it reminds me the old game on my AtariST without any save mode. Overall you did here a solid project. Thank you ++

Also I would like to thank you for your feedback about my game - STR!PES. What you said is interesting but I have no application in task manager after game closing. However I have to take a look at this point. Are you this player who humiliates me staying at the first place in leaderboard? Impressive score ++

tricky-fat-cat 2019-04-30 22:00

Nice job, hard and a pretty funny game, where you must pay for everything!

nico-the-pro 2019-05-01 07:10

Loved the game graphics and sound effects. The concept also seems pretty cool. I have two suggestions:

Maybe make it so you can also move with WASD and attack with z Don't make the player lose the game instantly when they touch a spike or fall down (I never died by losing all my coins, I have always ended my runs with touching spikes). Maybe make the player lose 50+ coins but killing them fully gets annoying and kind of defeats the entire purpose of the money currency-HP.

gamepopper 2019-05-01 08:12

Fun entry, really good pixel art. I think it would have been better if the spikes didn't instantly kill you, and it was a bit easier to obtain money (like through killing enemies).

ultrasonicaeron 2019-05-01 14:19

@geckoo1337 I'm glad you liked the game! Also, that was indeed me that took first place; I couldn't resist trying.

silkworm-sweatshop 2019-05-01 23:53

Looks, sounds and plays well! As others have mentioned, it really needs checkpoints between levels. I kept dying in a pit a few levels in and having to play from the beginning is pretty harsh. Perhaps the instakills should just make you lose a few coins and then restart the level until you're all out of coins.

aeveis 2019-05-03 16:42

Nice art, but I had a hard time with the spikes (usually hitting the upper left corner of them). Perhaps if the hit boxes were a bit shorter? It would be nice to start at the beginning of each level after dying, but I liked the upgrades. Keep up the good work!

reality-blind 2019-05-04 11:54

A bit unforgiving, and I was sad that my own bullets didn't go through the walls as the enemies's ones did 😢

I really enjoyed your level design, it has a Super Mario Land feeling and I love that game 😃 Good job 🙂

joror 2019-05-06 21:04

Interesting concepts! Health & loss was a bit harsh - especially insta-death on spikes. Me being quite bad at platformers makes it hard to play much :P
