Hype Hype Hype, in roughly a day I'm going post our "Im in" post with all of our programs and members

pixel-error 2019-04-30 01:57

The first positive impression is music that makes me dance crazy dances. At first annoying bad graphics and jerky animations, but then you join the game and gradually you start to feel the flow of the game.

jedineeson 2019-04-30 02:02

Great music and tight control good job!

trifectuh 2019-04-30 02:04

Fun and challenging! nice work

lombax 2019-04-30 02:08

hahaha, that bow/dodge animation was hilarious  nice audio. its a fun little game. :dog:

armadillq 2019-04-30 02:19

@lombax @trifectuh @jedineeson @pixel-error Thank you guys for taking the time to play our game and leave some kind and constructive comments!

scalphamission 2019-04-30 03:28

Very challenging and fun

ejmejm 2019-04-30 03:56

Hard but addicting

beanslasher 2019-04-30 08:03

I think this game is KILLER, The movement is crisp and I loved the challenge, Great job and I hope you continue this game, as it has potential!

pseudobytes 2019-04-30 08:04

The graphics were a bit glitchy, but that did not take awway from my excitement, I actually really liked it! The music is great and I love how the traps are really clear, since it can be frustrating to get hit by a trap you didn't even see. Great job :)

quagga 2019-04-30 08:07

Simple art, simple gameplay/ But very addictive! ) Nice game

monkeydvrus 2019-04-30 09:49

Nice game! This is a real challenge!

donitz 2019-04-30 14:03

Good difficult game. I could see myself speedrunning this.

One thing about the platform physics. It's a good idea to allow the player to jump in the air a short duration after running off a platform. It's more forgiving and the player doesn't really notice it unless it's missing.

fadex 2019-04-30 23:41

its simple, but actually felt really nice and I enjoyed it a lot!

mrspeaker 2019-05-01 00:25

I was insta-head-wiggling to that theme tune. And the duck animation is the best duck animation in the history of duck-able player characters.

My only gripe was I felt the jump key was a bit unforgiving... many times (many) I would fall to my death though I was positive I hit jump in time.

Other than that, 11/10, would recommend A++++.

wolf-flare 2019-05-02 17:08

The graphics is not good, but i enjoyed the game. Although it is a regular platformer and I do not see the theme in it, i think it is a good game.

redhermit 2019-05-03 23:03

Excellent job, especially if this was your first LD! Music is good (is that real bass that was recorded?) - controls are tight. The animations are cute and fun.. and I loved the deaths/gore!

Constructive feedback: I would agree with @donitz in regards to the jumping just past the edge mechanic, which is common in these types of games and feels good to the player (that they don't notice); something worth researching. Also to note, the gray background tile grids kind of phased in and out with movement around the screen, sometimes showing just the vertical lines, sometimes horz only, sometimes none.. (maybe it's my monitor resolution that causes it.. I did it in the webGL version, on a 2560x1440 res).. this was kind of a strain to the eyes and a little distracting to the action of the char.

Both of those are quite minor though - all in all it plays well, is challenging and fun, and an excellent first LD game!

sassykeys 2019-05-03 23:40

Thanks so much for the kind words and constructive feedback @redhermit ! I did the audio in this production and no it wasn't actually real bass, just a sample instrument, can't remember which one exactly but it was from East West anyhow :). Having just done a playthrough of your game I've found that I'd make a good provider, so that's not very realistic :P (joking) I liked the feel of it and I really dig how sophisticated the audio was. I've only gotten started on trying to code audio into games so can appreciate the know how involved with even implementing musical changes between scenes and trying to implement footsteps that loop... anyway in case if you're interested I've done like an updated version of the game-play theme https://soundcloud.com/sassykeys/ld-game-jam-whipout-level-music

I've sort of tried to hone in on a sound that I can hopefully apply to my next game jam (or any for that matter), so used some old school 80s drum samples and spiced up the bass.

dock-frankenstein 2019-05-05 07:56

I've played this game in a video.

I don't like "rage games" like this, but it was great!

armadillq 2019-05-05 21:25

@franciszek-pyrc Thank you for taking the time to play our game and even include it in your video! I'm not 100% sure if we originally planned it to even be that hard, I think it just got increasingly harder throughout development lol. Glad you still enjoyed

big-cow 2019-05-18 17:36

Simple but fun. Nice level and obstacle design, cute animations. I did find it frustrating (would have liked more checkpoints - I know it's meant to be hard but it feels like a troll level when a previously invisible obstacle kills you).

rob-white 2019-05-19 15:27

Felt a bit like one of those rage-games. The music was pumped up and I found the crouch animation to be quite funny. It was just the right level of responsiveness. That sizzle sound effect when you die is a bit grating though.

ian-kettlewell 2019-05-20 06:07

It was fun trying to overcome the precise platforming challenges required. I wish the music didn't restart with each death and level though, I like the later parts of the song!

armadillq 2019-05-20 23:50

@ian-kettlewell Haha this is a great point, we were very lucky to have our composer and its a shame you cant hear the entire thing without idling.

duke 2019-05-21 10:06

Phew, that was hard and relentless. I like the general idea of a skill based jump and run game, but I think this still needs some work. The main issue was the grahical glitches of the level tiles. I played the web version and the seams between the tiles were flashing like crazy, which was hard on the eyes. The controls of the character were a bit too floaty for me. I had lots of problems making some specific jumps. Also, the levels could use some checkpoints, I think. The tune was nice at the beginning, but got a little annoying after a while ;) especially, when you did, it appeared as if the song started over multiple times.

All in all, a solid entry with some problems regarding polish and balancing. A little too much try and error for my taste, but that's ok :)

m2tias 2019-05-21 10:10

The character design is pretty good, crouching especially :D Music was great too. Jumping was way too inconsistent. This seems to be the first jam game for three of you. Pretty nice if so! Keep at it. Oh and I expected body parts flying around because of "excessive gore" :(

philstrahl 2019-05-25 19:23

Infuriating! Nevertheless I enjoyed the music much, as is evidenced in this video: https://youtu.be/NxsO8deuXdo
